Well Hello !! Just thought I would share my experience with you- it may be of interest, or help -or may kick off a debate, I play an NS WAV4 that I've had for about 18 months now, and it is strung with the manufacturers NS flatwound steels It has an integral piezo pickup built in with no preamp, just a passive volume & tone control, and a toggle switch to give two pre-set emphasised sounds - One for Arco & the other for Pizz playing. I tried it straight in to my "Electric Bass Guitar" setup - an Ashdown Mag400 with its own 2 x 10" Speakers & horn, plus a 15" Ashdown extension cabinet fitted with a Fane Sovereign 425 watt speaker chassis . That was sort of OK, but not the sound I had in my head - so I tried using my trusty Sansamp Bass Driver box. Now this is a great bit of kit as far as bass guitars go - I 've had it from new for some years & it always gives a great "improved" sound to my ears. Well I played about with the settings on the Sansamp on and off and kept thinking "Hey - that's better", but it wasn't really what I was after - or what I felt should be coming out of the speakers. What I've wound up with is simply a Boss Compressor/Sustainer CS-3 set slightly in the "limit" mode to keep the output of the louder bottom three strings down & a Boss Bass Graphic Equaliser GEB-7 pedal set to give the G a chance to shine a little, to cut the bottom E a little, and to give a bit of overall boost. I'm pretty happy with it, and the setup does transfer to other amps & speaker combinations, so it's not just for the Ashdown. It's also nice & portable, so it will go in the WAV4's gig bag. Does anyone else have a WAV4 & what do you use? Stompbox.

Here’s my Westfield telecaster style E3000 Sunburst guitar up for sale – it’s in excellent condition & it plays really well, but I’ve not played this for a while so it’s got to go. The guitar has had the frets dressed so no buzzing frets or sharp ends on them – I must say that the neck feels really good. It has a six saddle adjustable bridge which has been set up properly for intonation, and the strings go through the bridge back plate, not through the body. The pickups are good and give a great set of sounds – the bridge pickup is bright without being harsh, and the neck pickup has a rounder sound to it. There are no bad dings or marks on it and it has an almost new set of D’Addario 10’s to 42’s strings fitted. I’m up in Morecambe, near Lancaster so you can call & try it & pay cash – or I can arrange for postage as an additional cost on top of the very reasonable asking price. There is no gig bag or case, but I will pack it in a decent “guitar” cardboard box that I got when I bought the guitar with plenty of padding if it has to go by carrier. Please email me with any queries.

Here's a nice bass for you - bought new about 1 year ago but I've not used it other than an initial burst of playing at home - looks like I'm not keen on active basses after all - I tried a Warwick a while back & moved that on too. Anyway it's in mint condition and is really pleasant bass to play - tthe controls are:- Master Volume, Blend, Stacked Treble & Bass, Mid and a "Slap" switch which is a mid frequency switch. Looking for [s]£180 , £170,[/s] NOW £160 for this. I'm in the Morecambe /Lancaster area so can meet up within a reasonable distance, plus I go to Oldham every two or three weeks. Alternative is to add the cost of postage.... No gig bag or case but I can always pack it in a decent "bass guitar" cardboard box with plenty of padding.

Well I give up - I've been waiting for over a year now & there were only a few names in front of me - I've ordered & paid for a copy of the book - that will probably guarantee it appears now !!!! LOL. Take me off the list thanks, Regards, Stompbox.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I've tried the "Open in New Tab" - that does it - and yes, I get the "Googleads" thing if i hover over the back button - not going to reformat my PC though to sort it - LOL. Cheers, Stompbox

Good evening, Since the site has changed, I constantly have a problem getting back out of say looking at a particular item for sale to the general "for sale" listings. I used to use one click of the mouse on the "back" arrow - but now it takes tow or three (or more) and then you go back two or three pages or to the "Hom" section. I'm probably doing it incorrectly - but how ARE you supposed to navigate around please?

Did a magazine swap with Neil - he kept in touch/good communications. He's a top bloke, Geoff

Following my "Outrageous Magazine Prices" post in the general discussion zone of this site here are two sets of three magazines on offer. First is two Guitarist July 2011 & Feb 2011& one Guitar & Bass July 2010. Next is Guitar & Bass for April, June & July 2011. They may be out of date but the interviews & equipment reviews are still all relevant & readable. How about I post a set of three mags to you & you send me three mags - bass, acoustic, classic cars - whatever. Will only cost a pound or two postage & we each may get some interesting reads from stuff we wouldn't normally have bought. Cheers, Stompbox. -

Well I could develop this into a rant, but I'll try to keep calm! I thought I would treat myself to a Guitar or Bass magazine the other day and went for a mooch on the magazine racks - I picked up one that was a "Special Issue" from one of the big publishers and related specially to Gibson guitars....... "Hey - this looks good" I thought. Took it to the counter "Seven Pounds 99p please" said the guy on the till. Er - well NO...... EIGHT QUID - I Think not. So it's interesting to see the iBass magazine concept. The thing is, I still like to have a physical magazine to hold & flip the pages on though, but hey at £5 and £4 for most mags then it's a toss up between a magazine or strings/batteries/plecs etc. How about us developing a "MagSwap" on this site? For starters I've got a load of old(er) Guuitarist, Guitar Buyer and Guitar & Bass mags I can put up for swaps. The deal could be "I'll send you mine if you'll send me yours".... - yes I know, it's not for this section of the site, but I might put some on the Recycle Your Stuff section & see if there is any interest. The thing I find especially annoying is the price of "Blokes" magazines - be it Guitar, Motorcycles, Model Making, Fishing etc. compared with the price of (many) magazines for women. Is it more expensive to publish mags for us guys, or is it simply that women are more sensible & won't pay the crazy prices? Grr....

Here is my top Aria FA-70 full depth hollowbody archtop, based on the superb Gibson L5/L7 guitars - it is one of the Aria “Pro 2” series. It's in great condition with no bad dings or knocks. They originally sold for just under £500 - I'm looking for £245. It was made by the Samick factory in Korea in 2001 (they make instruments for Gretsch, Epiphone, & Aria as well as their own brand). It's a fully hollow bodied, full depth guitar with a spruce top, maple back & sides and a floating rosewood bridge. It has good quality gold tailpiece & gold Gotoh machine heads, vintage cream binding on the front & rear of the body, headstock, neck & "F" holes. This is a link to Aria – the current model the FA-71, (which is only a single pickup model) but construction details are, I believe, the same. http://www.ariausa.c...itars/fa71.html The previous owner had the (usually lower quality) Korean humbuckers replaced with""vintage friendly" P90s which he said were from GFS. He advised that the job was done professionally in Denmark St, London and uses custom pickup surrounds. The guitar sounds really great, but I really need to free up some cash, so it has to go. I’ll pack it carefully in a cardboard guitar box from the local music shop & send by 48 hour courier for £12, unless you want to come over to Morecambe to try it & buy it. (Transit insurance would be extra). I could deliver within a reasonable distance by arrangement, and I do go over to Oldham & Manchester every couple of weeks.
