  1. Two workable settings for my rock sound, PICK setting has SHAPE button OUT FINGERS setting SHAPE button IN Notice the difference in Input Gain !! Main EQ similar but look at the sliders and in particular the 340HZ slider as they are very different Im also running SUB on but very low so it’s only just there for a little extra
  2. Something interesting I’ve learnt is playing at home ( limited volume of course) the loudness you get from pick playing is huge compared to finger style However with the band the difference in volume reduces With an increase in amp input ( for fingers ) I still find the fullness of the sound is hard to beat. I do find having a compressor up front helps too especially taming the low E string and making it more punchy Fresh strings too are a must for me
  3. So I’m starting to see that with the right EQ and very low Sub you do get a good sound Back playing with fingers for the fullness and using my Ampeg Compressor I’m getting some great rock tones
  4. Beautiful music Marge !!!
  5. Ok so the Adam Clayton post made interesting reading ! Ive noticed the suggestion in the manual for Rock does indeed have Sub engaged ! Again I tried the suggested settings for rock and they work but I will keep Sub off I think
  6. Yep problem solved ditch the drive and use the compressor on its own Nice sound the Ampeg Opto Comp
  7. If you paid via credit card you are protected Call the credit card company and explain and request a reversal of the payment
  8. Didn’t they go into receivership this year ?? Im sure they went out of business or they closed the stores
  9. Went down this road as a guitarist!! Spent more time tweeking and adjusting than playing and then still didn’t like it. Home to live settings also very different so bear that in mind. On Bass I would question how many actual effects you need and is it worth it compared to good analog pedals Room for both but modellers / digital platforms do take over your life in endless tone chasing !!
  10. Just be aware of possible hassle and cost if you need to return!
  11. I bet the amp sounds great again
  12. Yep I definitely a pick convert
  13. Have you watched The Dirt movie !! So funny and perhaps some truth in the story
  14. Either way AC played Ashdown gear and that’s good enough for me !! If he sounds good on stage ( what he experiences ) as already stated then he will be happy regardless of front of house PA etc etc Thats probably the same for all of use chasing that perfect tone / sound we believe to be right Incidentally I tried at rehearsal last time the Sub Harmonic on at 7:30 ish on my ABM600 and you couldn’t really tell it was on or off !! Maybe that’s the point it’s slight but it’s there and he and his techs knew it too. I guess we will never know but as this was the original point of the posting I thought I would bring it back to that point
  15. Ok tried it and compressor first is definitely a better sound for me In fact I like the compressor so much I may ditch the Spark Booster and just use the amp drive
  16. I’m after a consistent level to the amp. I’ve tried it both ways and I think I prefer compressor first then Spark Booster. The compressor is an always on and the plan is Spark Booster for occasion drive / grind for certain songs
  17. In front of amp where is best to place a compressor pedal ? Before light drive pedal ( Spark Booster ) or after ?
  18. Great rig 👍
  19. +1 ^ 👍😉
  20. 😉😂 This is probably true ( to some degree ) but it’s like stating it’s not important to a band sound what gear is used on stage/ or studio at all .., I think you may be on your own with that belief … each to their own hey 😉😂
  21. Yep absolutely agree with this
  22. Not sure I would entirely agree with that as everyone has a sound / tone and the band tech etc wouldn’t let them play through any old amp as if it wasn’t important to the band sound. Also I think Ashdown do not give artists gear for free and this has been mentioned recently when FF were invoiced for their gear. I guess we will never know for sure but it’s interesting to think that just maybe those suggested settings were true at some point. Either way I’m happy to believe it’s possible !!
  23. Been reading about U2 bassist Adam Clayton and his setup using at some point Ashdown ABM amps I understand he was running the Sub Harmonic on all the time set low 7:30 ( o’clock ) and drive on set 12:30 - 1 o’clock Might just try this next practice
  24. Revisiting this thread as I’m also an Ashdown ABM600 user and started using compression However I don’t like the onboard amp compressor as it drops the volume slightly and felt it smothered the tone Im now trying the Ampeg Opto Compressor front of amp and I’m liking the result
