😉😂
This is probably true ( to some degree ) but it’s like stating it’s not important to a band sound what gear is used on stage/ or studio at all .., I think you may be on your own with that belief … each to their own hey 😉😂
Not sure I would entirely agree with that as everyone has a sound / tone and the band tech etc wouldn’t let them play through any old amp as if it wasn’t important to the band sound.
Also I think Ashdown do not give artists gear for free and this has been mentioned recently when FF were invoiced for their gear.
I guess we will never know for sure but it’s interesting to think that just maybe those suggested settings were true at some point. Either way I’m happy to believe it’s possible !!
Been reading about U2 bassist Adam Clayton and his setup using at some point Ashdown ABM amps
I understand he was running the Sub Harmonic on all the time set low 7:30 ( o’clock ) and drive on set 12:30 - 1 o’clock
Might just try this next practice
Revisiting this thread as I’m also an Ashdown ABM600 user and started using compression
However I don’t like the onboard amp compressor as it drops the volume slightly and felt it smothered the tone
Im now trying the Ampeg Opto Compressor front of amp and I’m liking the result
Now I see what a good compressor can do in front of an amp instead of using the amp built in comp.
Very pleased with the way it tames the low bass peaks and evens things out and adds a warmth to the tone
Just added this to my rig in front of my ABM600
Curious to what settings people are using for a slight overdrive tone ?
I tried mine like this in “ Clean” switch position
Also trying not to push the amp input too much hence Level control is down giving nearly unity volume on or off
Finger style player who went over to using a pick for a few months
Fingers give me the sound as fuller with more depth to each note but I’m still liking using a pick for a lot of songs for the fast attack and punch clarity
Mostly I’ve never used pedals but I’ve recently added a TU3 tuner that comes after my G30 Relay wireless RX
after that the TC Spark Booster
I play passive basses and having the TC SB it’s like having an extra preamp so I can get some EQ tweaks and light drive to flavour things a bit
I can’t see me adding anything else as I deliberately purchased the Boss BCB30X board so I can only have 3 items which I now have .. simple but works well
The EQ sliders on the ABM amps are very sensitive and offer a huge boost or cut.
It’s easy to get carried away but I often find the Flat EQ is a good place to start and flavour from there.
Try to avoid the Shape Out option because as soon as you hear that it’s hard to get that deep full sound out of your head. Makes Flat sound .. very flat !!
Yep that 340HZ slider is key to a good tone on the amp
I even asked Ashdown if in their opinion it was better to run SHAPE out and feed in more mids in particular boosting 340HZ or ..
my preferred way
SHAPE in .. and pull the 340HZ down a fair bit
Ashdown agree it’s personal taste but less power is being pulled when SHAPE is in as it’s not trying to boost a ton of low end
I’m using mine ( PBass with pick ) as image ( shape pushed in and trick is drop the 340hz slider to remove honk )
Dont use compressor as it drops volume slightly and smothers tone a bit
Every time I see someone selling a bass secondhand it always seems mostly to be a Jazz bass !!
Where have all the reasonably priced PBass guitars gone !!
