Orange Little Bass Thing is a good option

Boss Katana or Marshall MG series or AVT

I use P2G and DPD sometimes direct as the music stores tend to use DPD At the moment many couriers are increasing their prices ( shortage of drivers etc ) and heavy and large stuff gets costly Then there’s the insurance cover ! Sadly selling heavy items for shipping has become a tough one hence why so many say collect only. Returning stuff is also a hassle hence I won’t use overseas suppliers For Ashdown I live an hour away so not a hassle for me popping down to Essex

Yep “Lad” as I believe he was commonly known is a good guy too I guess we are all getting older !

So this arrived today ( thank you Guitar Guitar ) and I was sort of apprehensive due to weight Well it’s heavier than my Ashdown Pro Neo cabs ( twice the weight ) but I can still lift it fine so that’s a relief. This is the 2x12 600w 4 ohm cab with horn and it needed to be good as it’s on its own with my amps only running down to 4ohms. What does it sound like ? Its a ported cab and a very loud cab for sure, courtesy of the two Eminence 12” drivers. It’s low and full sounding but with a very clear mids sound and the horn adds a nice bit of treble. This is often said to sound like the 810 cabs without the size and weight, does it ? I don’t know but I did use a 610 Ampeg and it sounds similar. Build quality is excellent and looks very smart too. Only negative point is no Speakon connector only Jack but I can live with that minor detail. So I’m back to rocking a single cab again ( albeit a slightly heavy but manageable weight ) and I’m liking this a lot. Also good price from GG which is actually less than two Ashdown ABM115H I was going for until delivery issues in U.K. made me re-think my plan. I can definitely recommend this cab if you are happy with the weight of around 30kg ( which I am )

Yes they appear to have them in the overseas store ( good price too ) The newer Pro Neos are over £500 each so more expensive than the U.K. In terms of flexibility in returning though I prefer to use PMT

Try the Guitar Lodge Felixstowe Steve is a great guy and his father in law does the amp repairs and I’ve used him. Very reasonable prices and lovely guy

The ABM210H Pro Neos are for the money and size / weight an amazing cab and I found two stacked in my rock band a good match with my Abm600 I then took the decision to see if I could fill out the band sound even more with 15” cabs in ported variant. Tried the ABM115H ported cab and was pleased with the depth of sound but stocks of new cabs are non existent at present ( February delivery quoted ) so I scrapped that plan If I could afford to keep both I would hold on to the Neos as they are so light and easy to carry around. I can carry both my two Neo cabs one in each hand ! Try doing that with some cabs ! For me the hunt continues but I can vouch for the Neo cabs as certainly up to the job unless you are playing huge venues !
-
I would go for my two Pro Neo cabs !! 😉 Just had to change my plans as PMT told me ABM115H new cabs not available until early February!! Ive cancelled my order grrrr 😖!!!

So I’m now digging ABM115H cabs with my ABM600 Slight changes needed to my usual EQ settings ( my Pro Neo cabs have plenty of mids ) The ABM115H is a deep sounding cab so it needs a mid boost so I up the 340hz slider Finding it a very nice match for the band. The cab variants certainly make a huge change to possible tones… more so than changing amps I fear ! Happy Bassist now

I’m enjoying the deep sound of 15” again

Made a comparison to the ABM115 H compact cab and I prefer the Ashdown and build quality is more heavy duty. Fender is a nice cab for the money and it was a close thing for sure ( for me )

That’s really helpful Phil thank you It does make sense and also introduces other factors that makes the cab sound different ie the room etc. I recall the first time I tried my Ashdown Neo cabs with the band ( after setting what appeared a great sound at home ) only to discover I had very much less bottom end as I turned up the volume. The cabs were definitely not boomy ( in fact the opposite) and full of mids and very punchy. Even using the “ Shape Out” feature on the ABM600 still sounded good. The one thing personally I felt that was needed was more bass and of course you can add loads with EQ etc. Im now experimenting with a 15” ported cab to see if I’ve either gone too far the other way and resulting in a boomy mess or I fill the room and band out nicely. The lesson I learnt is cabs react differently to the room or stage you put them on and the volume you push them with. How it’s ever possible to judge a cab in a music store is beyond me !!

Good feedback .. you anywhere Near East Anglia ?? Im seeing nearly all positive comments especially based on its price / sound / weight ratio They do appear to sound decent and that light cab yet using a Ceramic Driver is impressive. I wouldn’t want to drop it down some stairs yet I wouldn’t want to that with any cab as I’m sure it would get badly damaged apart from old Peavey cabs !!
-
Are they nickel plated or pure nickel ? Ive swopped over to Pure Nickel and so far I like the result more so than the more usual Nickel plated rounds
-
I’m hoping they sound decent when pushed so should know tomorrow night. I like the fact they are very light for a non Neo loaded cab and it has an Eminence speaker inside
-
To stack you need to take castors off but as it’s light I probably wouldn’t use them anyway !
-
I have same cabs as Lozz and I play loud rock using two Ashdown ABM 210 Neo lightweight cabs ( sealed ) One on its own would be buried by a loud drummer as they are small so most of the sound isn’t reaching your ears .. stack two together and the sound is huge However I miss big 15” ported cabs and changing over and selling my Ashdown cabs. They are superb low cost cabs and weigh 14kg each ! All depends on music you play, band instruments you compete with and final band sound. Ive never played BF cabs but I’m sure they are superb but so is the price and I tend to move gear on so would never pay that price for a cab.

I agree as it’s possible to have good and bad designs in most things. I do think both designs up close have a different sound, maybe less so out front playing live. It does make it harder making the best choice as we seldom have the opportunity to try at volume in a store etc. I guess some of us also like mid punch less lows and others like low boom and fullness without so much mid growl or we want both depending on EQ etc We have so much choice these days it’s a tough one choosing the right set up for a preferred sound and need
-
I’ve had both over the years and the best was the sealed Ampeg 610 cab More recently the Ampeg PF115LF which is rear ported but a very low bass cab and heavy Just trying the Fender Rumble v3 115 ported cab and I like what I hear. Is it down to ported and cab design perhaps ? Hard to describe but in layman’s terms it’s a fullness or roundness to the sound which some may prefer the mid punch tone of sealed smaller box cabs
-
What’s your preference and why ? There seems to be more ported cabs around than sealed and they both have there places What do you like about both variants and why
