1. I did get something else and its on its way now. It is still lighter by 10kg than the Ashdown and its still a 4x10"
2. Another bump. I've just bought a replacement for this cab so really need to sell this one now. I am unable to drop the price anymore as this is already silly cheap for a monster cab.
3. I used to write out the notes to songs but found that I was just playing what was written than actually learning the songs so now I commit everything to memory. I find it much more fun and involving to be playing to the audience than staring at a sheet of music. Means I can concentrate on my stage presence and bass faces I can't honestly remember the last time I had to read a piece of music - maybe 2006
4. I sold the neck from this a while back and realised that I still have this body. It is from a barely used Westfield precision in near mint condition bar one little dent in the paint on the upper bout which is hard to see unless you're up close and another wee one on the back. The neck pocket measures 61mm at its widest point and is 95mm long. Looking for £40 collected + £10 posted to UK mainland
5. And another one here Crazy - I sold my one a couple of years ago for £340
6. Just back from B&Q and did some pressure tests with various woods (pressing down on it really hard) and it would appear that 15mmx12mm pine stripwood will be strong enough. Going to do a build diary once I've worked out the details
7. Thought I'd resurect this thread than start a new one. I'm trying to work out if a lightweight case to fit a cab made of 6mm ply screwed and glued to an 18mm timber frame would be solid enough to support a 27kg cab. It would look like a flightcase but simpler with holes in the sides so that I can use the existing cab handles
8. I very much doubt it. I bought and paid for the cab then had my payment refunded the next day with a separate email telling me that it was no longer for sale. I emailed a further twice but never found out why it wasn't for sale. Had almost ordered a new cover and wheels for it as well. The seller hasn't been online since this happened
9. I can send something using My Hermes by taking it into my local Spar/Shell Petrol Station
10. Used this on Sunday at a wedding and it coped no problem at all with a 5 piece band with everyone but me going through the PA
11. I bought and paid for an SWR Goliath cab over the weekend. We traded several PMs, he gave me his details for the courier and I spent a long time looking for a cover and a set of wheels for it. I just was just waiting for the word and I was arranging collection for it during the week after being told that his wife would be off all week so collection woudln't be an issue. The next day he refunded my payment telling me that the cab was no longer for sale. No explanation as to why or anything. Despite trying to contact him to find out why I still have not heard anything. Very, very annoyed about this as I had almost placed the order for the cover and had my heart set on getting this cab. As far as I was concerned it was mine as we had a gentleman's agreement, not to mention the fact that I paid for it so to have my money refunded without a good reason why is very disappointing and only the third time out of dozens of transactions on Basschat that I have had to leave negative feedback. very annoyed
12.
Was it a BCer? I know someone with a nearly new SWR 4x10 for sale but don't want to compound problems if it is the same guy!
Possibly - PM'd
13. And then had my payment refunded today before being told it was no longer for sale. Still not heard back why not though
14. Well after agreeing the sale and paying for the cab yesterday, the seller has refunded my payment and told me that the cab is no longer for sale. Still waiting to find out what the reason is but I am very annoyed as about to place an order for a Roqsolid cover for it back to bloody square one again
15. I must've PMd Mark before you - I paid for this earlier on
16. After careful consideration I decided to buy the SWR Goliath that was up for sale here. Its 3kg heavier and slightly deeper than the Paddy Ashdown but it was too good an offer to pass up. Thanks for all the help and info
17. Bump for price drop £100 collected or £135 delivered. Might be up for some trades of single effects etc, maybe a Boss Flanger or OC2/3
18.
I feel like i'm stuck in patterns say G7.. I'd play mixolydian.. which is fair.. but I can't break out of it. I feel, in that sense, my theory is holding me back. I also feel like I don't know enough theory (Work that out!)
I don't have a clue what mixolodian is - its a kids cartoon channel innit? Sometimes I think that trying to focus on scales and so on limits what you can play in that you're consciously trying to follow a particular scale or something. I don't have the first clue or desire to learn scales, arpeggios and whatnot. I love to play and I'll keep making stuff up on the spot with no idea what it is cos I haven't learned what it is but it sounds good. I'm not saying that you shouldn't learn that stuff but I know for a fact that I'm a better player because I play what feels right rather than consciously thinking about what thingy I'm playing. See? Couldn't even think what the right word was there
19. I've got this really annoying thing where if sometimes I grip something my fingers will contract into a claw. Doesn't happen often and only once when I've been playing. Thing is that I play with dead straight wrists but I think its probably due to my aggressive style of playing.I do play far too hard but that's mainly due to excitement and adrenalin
20. Depped with a very busy wedding/function band tonight and got some more work out of it as well for next weekend -Saturday and Sunday nights. Used the trusty Paddy Ashdown 4x10". Band were tuned down a semitone due to the fact that the singer felt his voice wasn't up to singing to regular pitch so I had a lovely rattley bass sound tonight, coupled with the fact that quite a few of their songs I already use the D-tuner led to some pretty big, fat C# open notes. Getting to use their bass backline next week to save me taking mine which is an Eden Traveller head and a really small 4x10". Think I saw D410T on the back panel but its dead short for a 4x10" The band leader had given me a list of most of the stuff that they played on Tuesday with the keys but gave me the wrong Key for the Stevie Wonder Song"I Wish" Been learning that song all week but I'm going to learn it in the right key as well as Sir Duke which they also do for next weekend. One of the most complicated sounding tunes but actually not as hard as it sounds. Played some crackers including a jangly blues piano version of Honky Tonk Woman, a ska version of Brown Eyed Girl and a mega medley of Play that Funky Music which went into Brick House by the Commodores, Sex Machine and then Take me Out . I managed to find myself playing the verse of What is Hip during it as well. Played Tiny Dancer as well. Never had the opportunity to play that one before Looking forward to next week's gigs now
21. Thanks everyone so far I'm thinking that the 2x 2x10" option may be the best one for me but then I'm back to which one?. The now discontinued Ashdown one was still 29kg I had been looking at the TC Electronic BC210. Definitely couldn't use one of those to get what I wanted but two might work. I think more research is required. Its so frustrating that there's no standard way of measuring the output of cabs that all manufacturers would have to adhere to
22.
Barefaced Super 12T, and you won't need to worry about bi-amping. You will sound better. Better tone, clearer, louder, punchier etc etc. The only downside is you will have to save some more!
But these things are subjective. I like the sound from my cab just not the weight
23. I have been looking at these but didn't think I'd have to spend nearly £800 to get the performance of a cab that I was selling for £110 just to get something lighter
24.
Couple of questions; Why do you want to change from what you have? The main reason is the weight of the cab. I plan on playing a lot more in the future so the 37kg Ashdown is too heavy What sort of music/size band do you play in? Its mainly deps that I do from pub gigs to weddings/functions so I need to have enough power in the event of not having use of the band's PA (tonight being an example as its only a vocal PA) and to cover most scenarios. For town hall size venues I'd like to think that there'd be a PA that I can go through. Have you actually tried bi-amping in the past? I've had 4 Gallien amps and never had any of their cabs to make use of the function so I wouldn't miss it Its not proper biamping as such, just a separate volume control for the horn
