At one point last year I was in a wedding/function band, a rock band, a Beatles tribute, another wedding/function band and depping. The problem arises when one or more of the bands gets busier and you've got to prioritise one over the other unless the each band knows that if band A gets a gig then you can't do one for band B, they have to get a dep and they're happy about the situation. I was the latter as the rock band and tribute were made of musicians who, like myself, played in other wedding/function bands and gigged for the hell of it some weekends

t depends on whether you want the clank all the time or just when you need it. I set up my basses so that when playing normally there is no fret rattle but when you dig in, that's when you get the clank - comes from years in wedding/function bands where clank isn't going to sound too good if you're playing Moon River or other stuff where you need a smooth tone. I use roto flats as on all my basses which shows that you don't need rounds on it and I don't recall Flea using Status basses to any great degree, if at all. In fact if you can still find it, there's an earlyYoutube video of Flea using a Black Precision bass live and still getting his sound

Courier points system and courier issues

I've used Nightfreight through Parcel monkey a few times and they're really good for large items such as cabs. Parcelmonkey communication is poor at best - if you contact them during the day, do not expect a response before 2am. Nightfreight do not offer tracking but if you call your local depot with just your name and postcode they can tell you if its out for delivery. Don't call the Night Freight number on the Parcelmonkey website as I'm sure its a phone in a locked cupboard somewhere as no one will answer it but the local one will get you through no probs. I posted a 75cm x 77cm x 53cm box containing a 28kg cab fully insured for £20 and I'll use them again for anything else that size -
I've been watching these for a few weeks now and you'll be lucky if it doesn't sell for three times the current £30 bid. One sold the other day for £111 + postage I'm looking at alternatives now cos the prices are getting silly

If its only for home practice then I wouldn't worry about spending a great deal. I use an 80w Meridian guitar combo. Still sounds good and doesn't annoy the nieghbours when I turn it up. Personally, spending £3-400 on something for home practice is a waste of money. I'd rather have that cash go towards my gig rig. Another "personally" from me is that when I first began playing in 1987 I had a 15w Squier guitar amp, cheap curly lead and Marlin Slammer precision copy with peeling chrome bridge. Now that we have the internet and a lot of opinons and choice there's too much emphasis on changing gear and the next big thing. Forget about all that. The most important thing is to listen to as much as you can and just play stuff you want to play and improve yourself as a bass player. I've been playing nearly 26 years and there are a lot of guys on here who have been playing longer. I've got to the point in my bass playing career where I can f*** about with this and that knowing that I have the playing side of things covered. Just play

Didn't some of the older 90s era cabs come with sidewinder drivers?

A bit off topic but I remember something Alexei Sayle said about 20 years ago:"If the British had invented the Walkman, it would have been about 2 foot square, covered in leatherette and had the headphones out of a Lancaster bomber" I buy whatever sounds good regardless of country of manufacture. My newly purchased Laney NX410 is designed and built in the UK - probably using baltic ply, Chinese wire and probably Chinese made Celestion neo drivers. The wooly Ashdown thing as well. I've used both separately and they sound good but together they sound sh*t and wooly. I had one of the chrome rack mounty ABM thingies and two ABM115s and it was terrible. Cabs on their own were good, amp on its own = good but together it sounded like they were a lot less than the sum of their parts

The Lollar ones are Top banana as well - Bumnote has one in his Precision

Ashdown ABM410 - SOLD PENDING PAYMENT
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Have a read up about amp impedance before you make up your mind. You won't notice much if any any difference whether running the amp at 4 or 8 ohms, especially as your amp would be pushing 4 10" speakers. Other obvious benefits would be that your amp will not run as hot and you could always add a second 4x10" at a later date which would make a difference but after hundreds of gigs over the years I've never needed any more than a 4x10" I remember running a Trace Elliot 1248H 4x12" cab a few years ago with a MarkV AH150 which would've been outputting 90w If I'd turned it up enough. Not so much the wattage as the air your pushing. -
The general concensus is that US Fenders are made in America, using American parts by Mexicans - Mexican basses are made in Mexico, using American parts by Mexicans If you check the link in my sig to my FSR Precision, this is my main bass. I was';t overly keen on the preamp so I fitted a set of EMGs

Well if you've read my review of the Laney NX115 you'll know how much I loved that - I managed to find a mint, never been out of the house NX410 still with its original shipping box for a very good price, so good that I'd have been silly to knock it back

Ashdown ABM410 - SOLD PENDING PAYMENT
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Cheers guys I was actually just thinking this earlier that this is ideal for a practice room - whether one that gets booked for different bands to use or your own rehearsal space. Saves carting your own stuff around. Last Saturday's gig involved along narrow lane and three flights of stairs. I used my trolley for the lane but had to carry it up the stairs.Actually surprised myself by carrying it up the whole way in one go -
I did get something else and its on its way now. It is still lighter by 10kg than the Ashdown and its still a 4x10"

How do you 'notate' or write down your basslines?
Delberthot replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
I used to write out the notes to songs but found that I was just playing what was written than actually learning the songs so now I commit everything to memory. I find it much more fun and involving to be playing to the audience than staring at a sheet of music. Means I can concentrate on my stage presence and bass faces I can't honestly remember the last time I had to read a piece of music - maybe 2006 -
I sold the neck from this a while back and realised that I still have this body. It is from a barely used Westfield precision in near mint condition bar one little dent in the paint on the upper bout which is hard to see unless you're up close and another wee one on the back. The neck pocket measures 61mm at its widest point and is 95mm long. Looking for £40 collected + £10 posted to UK mainland

Just back from B&Q and did some pressure tests with various woods (pressing down on it really hard) and it would appear that 15mmx12mm pine stripwood will be strong enough. Going to do a build diary once I've worked out the details

Thought I'd resurect this thread than start a new one. I'm trying to work out if a lightweight case to fit a cab made of 6mm ply screwed and glued to an 18mm timber frame would be solid enough to support a 27kg cab. It would look like a flightcase but simpler with holes in the sides so that I can use the existing cab handles

SWR Golliath 4ohm (mint never Gigged) £250
Delberthot replied to Marcus's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I very much doubt it. I bought and paid for the cab then had my payment refunded the next day with a separate email telling me that it was no longer for sale. I emailed a further twice but never found out why it wasn't for sale. Had almost ordered a new cover and wheels for it as well. The seller hasn't been online since this happened -
