1. I currently play through a Gallien Krueger 1001RB II into an Ashdown ABM410 and am looking to change soon. Most of my gigs are without PA support ranging from pubs to large functions. I have my cab on a cab stand so it is at ear level and I have plenty of volume for everything I do. I mainly play my Green Precision with D'Addario flats and EMGs and I get a nice bright trebly sound with plenty of low end. I've been reading threads on here and Talkbs for the past month and don't seem to be getting any closer to choosing a new cab. I only want to be using one cab and want it to be as light as is reasonable but still be loud enough for what I use it for and enough bottom end. I managed to get it down to a Gallien Krueger Neo 212 II as I'd like to be able to use the biamp facility on my amp but just when I think I'm ready to order I read something else and it makes me doubt that it will do the job of replacing my 4x10". I've read up on the GK Neo 112 cabs but from what I've read the 212 sounds better. I've gigged with smaller cabs like the Laney NX115, Schroeder 1212L and first generation of the MBE series but they lack the grunt that I get with the 4x10" I don't really want to go more than £500, it must be a single cab so I can keep using my cab stand, it must be reasonably light(under 25kgs) and it must fit into the boot of a Mini coupe which has a surprisingly large boot. Hopefully that's comprehensive enough and thanks in advance
2.
Spacehog - In the Meantime has a nice bassline to it, give that a go
Oooh I remember that one plus I have the original hologram limited edition CD How about Led Zeppelin- The Wanton Song. Sounds more difficult than it is
3. I'm frustrated by nothing. I'm getting better every day and, by jebus, take a chill pill cos its only a hobby deary I dep with a lot of bands and I play what I want. I play the important bits and I'm busy playing. Why should I be worried about that I'm "only" the bass player. You need to get out more or at least relax
4.
The roqsolid cover arrived today so I have erected it in my office so it makes it look like I have a S12T....it's alittle bigger than I thought it would be and am now having doubts it'll fir in the boot of a GT86.....
Haaaaaaaaaa Sorry but I looked at a GT86 a few weeks ago and didn't think it was possible to get anything bigger than a very small briefcase in the boot. At least with a Mini Coupe I'll get a cab in the boot and my bass in a gig bag behind the front seats. You could always try removing the passenger seat?
5. Pickguardian do "signature edition" scratch plates. I'm sure he'd be able to do something like this for you
6. The ABM410H did only come with blue drivers but the ABM 410T has black ones. This is my one: I contacted Ashdown who confirmed that they are exactly the same drivers, just a different colour
7. If you want a corker of a Stingray then get yourself a 30th Anniversary with the mahogany body. If you want the rarest and arguably best fretless there is IMO then get one of the 20ish made unlined fretless versions. Still my dream bass. I had a 30th but always really wanted a fretless one. Beautiful and sounds amazing as well
8. And ignored again just like I was ignored when I gave you a quote on my Ebay auction Sharky. Not going to win any friends doing that matey.
9. I'm intrigued by the sound he gets on the OPs video clip. I'm not normally one for trying to cop someone else's sound but its bloody good. As for the playing, its OK but mainly a lot of slides.nothing difficult
10. Yes, Conan and later on myself had 2 of the 4x10" versions with the carpet covering - there might actually still be one for sale on the forum. This was before the tolex, black drivers and fabric grill cloth
11. I've owned the Genz 6.0 and several GK heads including an MB210 combo which had a variation of the MB500 in it, albeit missing a couple of features. I owned both when I had my Schroeder 1212L cab and sold the Genz to buy the GK. Personally, the GK head is far superior and it is nigh on impossible to get a bad sound out of it. It's something to do with its inherent sound and the way the EQ has been designed but I just cannot see past GK anymore. I'm still unsure about the lightweight head thing and want to see how these things are performing 10+ years from now before I give up my trusty 1001RB II. IMHO Genz isn't better than GK, its different but not better.
12. Used this at audition last night and got the job. Sounded fantastic. Such a big, beefy yet clear as a bell sound
13. Still happy with my Korg DT-10 after many years. If/when it packs in I'll probably go for one of the newer models
14. Never used my G30 at home so haven't come across that problem but I'm more than happy with my wireless system.
15. Got tickets for the Glasgow show but don't know whether I like them enough to go or whether just to sell the tickets on
16. Going to be in Glasgow tonight and using this cab for an audition so could probably drop off afterwards depending on the time.
17. If you go to the reviews section you'll see my review of the NX115 cab
18. When I was 12 I picked up my first bass.It was a 4 string. It wasn't until I was 19 that I got my first 5 string. I played 5 and 6 string basses for the next 13 years and then about 5 years ago I went back to 4 strings. I don't miss the extra strings.I have a detuner to handle the lower stuff. I'm playing better than ever without the extra stings and I certainly don't feel that I "downgraded" In fact, all of those years of playing wide necks, especially the ironing board width of the Yamaha TRB6, anything with 4 strings feels like I'm holding a pencil.
19. I absolutely hate cables. Coil them up neatly and the next week they're in a bigger knot than Knot McKnotley of Nottingham. Power cable, Speaker cable and wireless transmitter to bass.
20.
Been playing in bands for 30 yrs since i was 18, love gigging but hate driving/ getting home at 3am, just bought all the "bedroom home recording gear so may well give that a go and se how i get on
Oh man, I love the drive home after a gig. Still buzzing, driving at miles per hour. Heightens the buzz. Can't be beat
21. Not currently in a band and I don't practice at home so am I actually still a bassist? I do have an audtion on Tuesday but the guitarist is confident that because I played so long in a wedding/function band (17years) that I won't have to practice anything so he didn't give me any songs to learn.
22. Despite the missing tweeter, the cab performs exactly as its supposed to. Its possibly the loudest 4x10" I've ever used with the possible exception of the Eden 410XLT but then again these cost about the same second hand as the Ashdown does new. This is a seriously loud cab for less than 450w 4x10" MAG money. Please someone buy this before I end up putting a Gallien NEO 212 II on the credit card.
23. How about moving the bridge forward by 1/2" and hiding the old screw holes with a bridge cover? The earth wire should still be in contact with the bridge if its only by that amount
24. Thanks again Phil. I did contact Ashdown but they're not responded and really don't expect them to give that sort of data away. Probably get hundreds of emails from crackpots like me every day I've readvertised the cab for sale to see if someone takes it before I do this. Its such a great, loud cab that I don't want to risk making an ar$e of it.
