    When I was 14 I got to see my bass hero at the time who was playing with Eric Clapton at the time - it was Nathan East. It was my first ever concert and it was at the SECC in Glasgow and I couldn't hear a single thing he played. I was so disappointed

    I don't fancy trying to win this year's Darwin award so the amp was always going to be unplugged and not been used for several days before opening it up. I vaguely remember reading something about discharging the caps or some such thingies before opening up. As I said, many time bass modder/repairer, first time amp repair. Want to make sure I don't end up as a charcoal briquette

    My Gallien Krueger 1001RB II has developed a scratchy input jack so I'm going to replace it. The taking apart and soldering work does not bother me but I've never worked on an amp before -is there anything I should know before opening it up so I don't get electrocuted or something?

    Flats are much the same as rounds when it comes to choosing them so saying that Brand X is what you want is a bit like saying that you should buy a Honda Civic cos that's what I drive. I tried most brands before giving up only to have one last try years later with Roto flats and now I don't use anything else. Trying some second hand sets from the forum is a good idea as they are pretty expensive but cheaper in the long run (mine are 3 years old and still good as new) I know exactly what you mean about the chromes - I used this very set on a Rickenbacker and by the end of the set I felt like I had arthritis - not really worth damaging your hand for a set of strings so they were off before the next gig

    [size=5][font=Times]Hi Folks,[/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]After a series of trades I've realised that the precision is the only one for me so I'm now offering this up for sale here.[/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]It features a swamp ash body with Ovangkol neck and wenge fretboard. eletronics are handled by 2 passive MEC Jazz pickups and it is fitted Warwick's branded chrome hardware. This bass has been gigged over the years and is definitely not a "case queen" just there to look pretty in its case. It shows signs of wear over the last 6 years of its life which I will now describe:[/font][/size][list] [*][size=5][font=Times]There is a scratch on the top of the headstock not visible when playing[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]There are some marks on the top of the fretboard[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]Due toWarwick's being natural wood and not painted, the area above mainly the neck pickup has picked up some dirt (probably off the strings themselves, you know dirt from strings onto fingers then rubbed onto the body during playing) Regular waxing has helped lift a lot of this out of the wood.[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]The bass has Warwick straplocks fitted but I do not have the strap end. These can be picked up for around £10-13[/font][/size] [/list] [size=5][font=Times]I always try to describe everything best I can as I don't want anyone to buy anything from me and not receive exactly what I have described to them and shown through the photos.[/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]This bass, despite being passive has an amazing growl to the sound, you can also fit as set of flats to give you a nice smooth tone. [/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]I always regularly maintain my basses so I have recently:[/font][/size][list] [*][size=5][font=Times]polished the frets[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]applied wax weekly to the body[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]used lemon oil to clean the fretboard[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]lightly sanded the back of the neck with 000 grade steel wool to remove dirt and keep it smooth for fast playing[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]cleaned the chrome hardware[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]fitted a new set of my favourite Fender 7250 nickel plated strings[/font][/size] [*][size=5][font=Times]set it up with medium low action[/font][/size] [/list] [size=5][font=Times]Setups are always very subjective - what I might class as low, you might find too low or too high so when you receive it, it might not be exactly how you like it but what will make it easier is that this bass comes with its User Kit.[/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]I've had a few Warwicks and this is the first one that still had its user kit intact. The kit includes the ID card that gives the specs, serial number (which is also on the back of the headstock) etc, truss rod tool, screwdriver and allen keys to adjust the bridge and the nut. It also includes some beeswax for maintaining the body. There's not a lot left but still enough for a few months.You can buy more and get yourself cloths for applying it from the Warwick shop.[/font][/size] [size=5][font=Times]Anyway, enough prattling on from me. If you were to but this bass brand new it would cost you the best part of £1000 but it wouldn't be made in Germany, it would be made in Korea and it wouldn't come with a case it would come with a bag.[/font][/size] [font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][size=5]I'm looking for £450 posted to mainland UK[/size][/font]

    I think I've got to the bottom of it now. From what I've heard, these are assembled in Mexico with US parts. The preamp is mounted onto the scratchplate with trailing wires coming off it, these are then attached to the pickups, ground and battery connections via solder connections and heatshrink tubing over the top. It would appear that I have a bad joint to the precision pickup as when I pressed the cable joint from the pickup the sound went back to the level it should be at. I don't have time to fix now but will repair it shortly

    I don't get it - its just like a dual course 8 string bass but with Low B and high C. Much better than all those silly coffee table things that look like someone's attached far too many strings to an ironing board.     I always thought that Steve Harris' technique looks really awkward. He always looks like his playing playing looked really uncomfortable but still manages to play some fantastic stuff

All in all, its a major pain unless its something you've done before. I did the Rick 4 to 5 conversion using a battered faker and fitted a single EMG35CS in the bridge position.Lots of fun but the bridge was a major pain to adjust properly and the nut took a while to get it spot on. I quickly got bored and bought a factory 5 string.

    While I was at practice on Monday my Precision ( the one in my sig ) suddenly went quiet mid song. I thought it was the battery needing changed but thought it was a tad premature as it had only been in the bass since July and I haven't used it a lot. Anyway, I changed it and took it to tonight's gig. Everything was fine during soundcheck and the first song but during the second it went quiet again, went back to normal then sounded like I had turned the bass right up on the bass EQ then went quiet again. I used another bass for the rest of the gig so I know its not the amp, I've changed the cables and it was a brand new battery I used. I've eliminated everything so it has to be the bass. The bass is only used for gigs and worked perfectly the last time I used it.I only took it to practice as I'm rehearsing with a new band and wanted to make sure it sounded right for this band. It lives in its case at all times and anyone who knows me knows that I am extremely careful with my gear. Has anyone experienced any problems with this particular preamp? Its under warranty so I'll be contacting the shop where I bought it from to see about getting it fixed but wanted to find out if anyone here knew of any problems so that I can get it resolved quickly

    Actually I use my one of these at rehearsals through my GK 1001RB and Peavey 4x10" and it sounds very Flea like. Fantastic basses

    I'm a huge fan of the HZ ones. Had them in my Thunderbird and now in my Ibanez Doug Wimbish. Capable of some really throaty growl with Roto flats Brielfy had an 80s Fernandes Jazz fretless with active ones. Absolutely incredible sound, wish I hadn't sold it so hastily

    Yeah, I missed out on this when it sold originally due to lack of funds and it looks like same applies again until I sell my Jazz. Absolutely stunning bass

    My Fender Geddy / Mex Jazz Hybrid - Fender Geddy Lee body with MIM Fender neck.
