1.
Through body bridges
Er
2. I'm sure Chris (Thornybank) has one or I think he did the last time I was over to see him
3. I'm giving serious consideration to getting a Barefaced cab so I need to hold onto this for now until I decide one way or the other
4. Thanks Merton One of the best sounds I had was with the 15" V-type combo and a Series V 1518 but it was a bit odd looking paired together due to the different sizes. I didn't speak to Alex about the 1528, just his own cabs - I've been recommended something like the Super 12 as it would handle gigs like the one I had in a big marquee at the weekend better but those are few and far between so he also recommended a Compact and a big amp to drive it if as I mainly play pubs and weddings.
5.
Trace Elliot gear kinda makes your bass sound like are playing it wearing mittens and a crash helmet. Rob
You're getting mixed up with Ashdown amps
6. I'm on the market for a new cab yet again. I've been speaking with Alex at Barefaced and have recommendations from him but I have other cabs in mind and I'm trying to narrow it down a bit. I'm ideally looking to only have one cab and I like the idea of this cab but am worried that because they say it has been tuned to 32Hz that they've sacrificed the top end to do this and I'm going end up having to buy a 2x10 or something to go on top. I like the idea of the tilt back castors and that that it comes with a cover so that'll be £50+ I don't need to spend on a cover and £20 on wheels. When I sell my Ampeg I plan on buying a Hartke LH1000 (well that's today's plan, it could very easily change tomorrow ) I haven't heard many people talk about the newer Trace stuff so am typing this hoping that there may be some on the forum who have them and have just been keeping quiet. I play in a rock band that does weddings as well and I don't go through the PA so I need something loud enough for bigger venues as well. The Ampeg & Laney combination that I use just now does that but its not exactly the sound I'm after. Its this model here:
7. The 4052H is on hold for two weeks. That means I have only the Ampeg and the Laney left
8. I'm having yet another change of gear. I only bought this amp two months ago and its done maybe 5 or 6 gigs. This sounds absolutely amazing through my Laney NX410. The cab that I'm selling on another thread sounds pretty old school but still clear as a bell and this amp compliments it nicely giving you the Ampeg tone without the Ampeg weight. Last night it did a pretty good job of filling this venue: This was without PA support and given that the amp only puts out 300w at 8ohms then it gives you an idea exactly how pokey this amp and cab combo are. I have been transporting this amp in a laptop bag and this is included in the sale along with a power lead I'm looking for £300 delivered mainland UK for the Ampeg or I can do the amp and cab for £570 delivered which will also include a really heavy duty speaker cable speaker cable. As far as trades go I'm looking for something like a Terror Bass 1000 or Hartke LH1000 And I think they really look good together: more pics and details of the cab can be found here
9. I actually may be tempted to do a deal with the Laney cab and my 2 month old Ampeg PF-500 The amp is minty fresh and comes in a laptop bag. They go very well together. More details here
10. Ashdown sold pending payment
11. I've been asked to quote for one of the cabs so I've gone and got quotes for all three. The Ashdown & Laney would be £26 and £12 for the Trace to mainland UK.
12. Apologies for the blurry pics - I'm using my wife's phone as I can't find the charger for mine
13. Lastly is the Trace 4052H bright box
14. Next is the Laney. This is in really, really good condition. Those are speakon / jack combi sockets there Roqsolid cover in minty condition
15. More pics as promised - Ashdown first I had forgotten about the tear in the vinyl at the back. I could glue it but I very rarely look around the back of my cabs unless I'm connecting or disconnecting speaker cables so it hasn't bothered me.
16. Chances are no - the're more likely to be along the lines of this
17. I have used Gallien Krueger amps for years and when I do sell one I try lots of other stuff before going back as I can never get "my sound" I've had my PF500 for a few months and am loving it. its very warm and to me is more versatile than the GK, plus it fits into a laptop bag. The choice of cab affects the sound as well - Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh has the same amp but uses an Ampeg cab and it sounds terrible. I don't know if its a sealed cab but its really muffled and wooly.
18. Hooray, I've decided yet again to change my cabs. I've decided on something different for my new band so am selling all of my cabs and starting again. First up is my Laney NX410. This is a 27kg 800w 4x10" 8ohm cab. I fitted wheels and got a Roqsolid cover for it since new and because I move my own gear it is in near mint condition. I would describe the sound as more old school in the same way that the NX115 I had before did. Laney cabs are made in the UK from marine grade plywood. They are also fitted with Celestion Neo speakers which also contributes to cutting out some of the weight found in regular cabs. The grill is even more solid than the old Trace Elliot ones that were pretty bomb proof as well. The second one is an older front shelf ported Ashdown ABM410. This one is 600w @ 8ohms. This one hasn't had a cover on it but is still in decent condition and fully working. Lastly is my Trace 4052H bright box. Surprisingly good condition for its age and fully working. For anyone who doesn't know what this is, its a high frequency horn box that you can run even if your amp is already down to its lowest impedance. Price wise, I'm looking for: Laney NX410 £300 Ashdown ABM410 £140 Trace 4052H £130 All prices are negotiable and I can post all three at cost. Just one pic for now but I'll upload more later
19. Chorus pedal now also sold - just the octave left
20. When I saw the first pic I thought the body was made of OSB
21. Going for buttons and pick up from Reading That's a crazy price
22. Last bump before Ebay
23. You really need to take the top of the amp off to check it. You don't say what amp you have but generally the UK distributors sell some spares so you can get the correct part. They can vary in size and shape and some are mounted onto the PCB
24.
Guitarists eh
Cant live with them, Can't tell them to bugger off
25.
these talks of ohms blow my mind! i dont have a clue how it all works, i expect to get a cab, plug in my amp and boom be away with it having my set up.. LH500 & 2 X Hydrive 410 cabs, i thought that this would use the full 500w that my amp has to offer by sending 250w equally to each cab, am i right or am i wrong? Anyway, so... if at rehearsals i add one of my hydrive cabs to the ashdown, will that pull all 500w from my amp?
Yes you're absolutely right. If you can't hear yourself with 8x10" speakers then you need to tell your guitarists to calm the hell down. I easily overpowered two of the loudest guitarists I'd ever come across with a GK 7000RB II (480w) and two Ashdown Mag cabs. MAG I tells ya If you think you need 8x10"s for rehearsals then you need a new band cos that's bloody silly. A single 4x10 and 350w from my Ampeg is more than enough with twin guitarists
