1. We had this playing through the PA when we were in another room so we could only really hear the bass and were amazed at how bad the bass was on the record. If you want a better version, check out the one by Michael Buble - it has an extra middle solo thingy going on as well. VM strikes me as the kind of guy who doesn't really enjoy what he is doing but it pays the rent.
2. I've had a crazy idea and need prodded in the right direction. I haven't asked the question yet so don't know if this will be possible. In my quest for small and light and the fact that these shuttle saddles aren't available separately, would I be silly to see if there is some way that Darren at the Bass Merchant could work something out for me where my Shuttle 6.0 becomes a 6.0-12T combo? My plan would be to use the combo on its own for small gigs where I use it as a monitor and buy a second 12" cab for use in larger gigs with no PA support. I wouldn't expect him to take my amp back, even though its only done 2 gigs but even sending back the box for my amp and him sending me back a shuttle combo minus the head, along with a 12" cab. This would mean me selling my Schroeder 1212L.
3. Wait, are we talking about the Fender or the toilet?
4. I tried a lot of basses recently for a friend who wanted to learn bass. To me, the bassic Squiers (bronco, Affinity P etc) were the worst playing of all. Surprisingly, the one that played the best was an Epiphone Thunderbird. Probably due to the narrow neck. They are neck heavy so aren't the best for playing live IMO, the whole reason for me selling mine. The Bass Collection Speakeasy and the other clones of this ( SX, Stagg etc ) modelled after the original Bass Collection basses are phenomenal players. They are very light, slim necks, most are actives but they are very comfortable to play. If having a bass that doesn't need to look like a Fender is something you are considering then check these out. The Rockbass Streamer & Corvette were very similar as well. As far as amps go, I am using a guitar combo in the house as it is quiet and doesn't boom as much as a regular bass amp so its neighbour friendly. For gigging I would say at least 300w with either 2x10" or 1x15" should be enough. Hartke, GK Backline Series & Ashdown are probably going to be the best for starting out - not saying that they are rubbish, just that they are more common so tend to be cheaper.
5. Me too. I've always loved the look of them. I've never got a good sound out of a split coil P bass but these ones are just fantastic. Most people think that they just do old school deep bass but they can be very aggressive when you dig in. I love mine but I have 2 and only need one. this was the last one in so it will have to be the first out.
6. beat me to it. Its been modelled after the pre facelift '57 single coil Precision with a jazz neck instead of the P. the reason being that the Warmoth neck's can be a bit chunkier than a regular neck with the extra reinforcement No Stinglay on the neck and you have the option to put your own logo on the headstock
7. I posted yesterday as well about this. I was in Glasgow, cash in pocket and never even saw anything I even wanted to try. GuitarGuitar have some cracking basses, including the P bass Aerodynes. The natural one is a beauty but I still didn't take the bait.
8. Plus you also have have the P bass specials etc with the humbucker, PJs, and my own personal favourite which is the single coil precision. Again tonally different
9. Exactly - the pickup has 8 poles. 4 on the front and 4 on the back. just unscrew the back ones. If you're interested in the Darkstar mod there's a guy on talkbs did the mod with his one. I can't remember his name. Something like Chef or maybe that was someone else.
10. I saw one of the smaller versions of this cab in GuitarGuitar in Glasgow today. Absolutely stunning. Luckily (?) I live even further away
11. I need to add something after today. I went to Glasgow with cash in pocket. I went to Guitar Store, Merchant City Music, Reverb & GuitarGuitar and there was nothing there that I even wanted to pick up and play. I was spoiled for choice, between the shops I had the choice of hundreds of good basses but nothing that i felt could top my gold bass. I now believe that i am gas free. Once I sell my '57 Warmoth P bass, that will be me sorted for the foreseeable.
12. Bumper stickers would be good. Talking about basses - wasn't the Lakland Decade or something like it as a result of a thread on Talkbass? There are a few guys on here doing basses. That would be really cool if we could agree on what the bass would feature and if we could get enough of an order to get them made. bach guitars do customer runs for a minimum quantity Being realistic, I doubt that we'd be able to come up with something we all liked and all have the money available at the same time
13. Surely you would need to play this standing on a stool or something so that the bottom of it doesn't touch the floor. i wonder if it suffers from neck dive?
14. Its been a while since this has been on here so have a laugh. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-PRO-6-NECK-GUITA...1QQcmdZViewItem I assume that the price includes sessions with an osteopath
15. Just spotted this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-Thunderbird...1QQcmdZViewItem £5 postage? What a bargain
16. I suppose I could loosten the neck and move it a bit out of alignment, fit a nut that's not cut deep enough, use fencing wire instead of strings, raise the action so that it is unplayable and put a squint Fender decal on it. That way, people are bound to believe that its a proper Fender It is a sad state of affairs that simply because it doesn't have the big F on it, its less of a bass to most people whereas its better than any Fender I've ever played. The whole reason i had it made was because Fender didn't offer a model like this, at this quality without having someone like John Suhr make me one in the Fender custom shop which would've cost 5-6 times as much.
17. I think a lot of people have come to the comclusion that the new heads are just rehashed superflys without the ability to be able to change the EQ bands etc from your PC so those people are snapping up the old models and driving up the price. Electromusic have one on their website for about £160 second hand
18. If you leave your bass out, the strings will die a lot quicker than if you keep it in its case. Mine only come out at the gig and the first things I pack away again.
19. Damn. too late. If it doesn't sell i would really like it. Would you be interested in the neck from my latest Warmoth bass? It is jazz width. It is fitted with Gotoh Resolite light weight tuners. Unfortunately I snapped 3 of the screws as I was fitting them. There is only one broken per machine so they are still very stable. I have found the original heads so they could be glued back on. There's no logo on the headstock so you could add one of your own. The neck is finished in vintage satin laquer so is a lot smoother and faster than the gloss finish. being a Warmoth, they are designed to fit Fender basses. I have the bass on Ebay but will pull it if you are interested. I was planning on replacing it with a fretless bass anyway.
20. I bought Rotosounds in an emergency from my local music store when i broke one and had a gig the same night. Hogmanay was the 3rd gig I had done with them and they were as dead as a very dead thing so I'll need to change them. Not dead as in lost their zing, dead as in as if they had been on a bass that had been left in a pub for 20 years or alternatively all the basses at the school I used to go to. I thought I'd try them to see how I'd get on but I'm going to go back to my Optima strings - they normally last me over a year so work out cheaper even though they are more expensive. Coated strings sound dead to me even when they are brand new- Elixirs and DRs. Your nickel strings will seem to last longer as they aren't as bright to begin with so the difference seems less than with steel.
21. being a member of Basschat and Talkbs has taught me more about what is on offer rather than merely making me spend more money. i used to be of the Peavey, Trace, Ashdown & Fender brigade - nothing wrong with any of them but they were the main brands that I'd find in my local music shop. There was little else to chose from. Its been really good talking to people like Jorg Schroeder & Jeff Genzler who are the actual people making these things. i now own products made by both of them. It is really good being on here and finding out about who plays what and new gear that is coming out as well as being able to impart some knowledge back into the forum. Going from 4 trips from the car to the gig down to 1 single trip has been mainly as a result of being a member of both these forums. I can't believe that little metal box the size of a biscuit tin can produce such quality volume and put it through a speaker cab about a quarter of the size of the 2 I used to use to provide the same volume.
22. I've decided to list my Warmoth P bass for the last time on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=004 I've been using the gold one for every gig during Christmas so this one just isn't getting played which is a shame. It will be cheaper for a member to buy it here so don't hit the BIN button. PM me instead. I may be interested in a trade for 2 lightweight 12" 8ohm cabs. If it doesn't sell this time I'm going to split the bass up, put the lollar pickup in my gold bass and sell off the other parts separately.
23. I'm out tonight. 1am finish. Next Christmas & New Year are already confirmed for gigs at the same place as this year. Next New Year is nearly fully booked already. Really looking forward to it tonight as well. Just listening to my usual pre gig music of Red Hot Chili Peppers DVD 'Off the Map'
24. Someone has a spare for sale here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spare_W0QQitemZ20029...1QQcmdZViewItem
25. Got an email back saying that the reason they do not supply the saddle is that they don't know if someone will attach it to a beast of a cab and try and lift it using the handle which would end up in tears. I have discovered that the thread size is 10/32. I'm now trying to find the specs for the Fender piggyback screws as I have a feeling that they are the same. I've found them on US Amazon but they come in at £14 odds for a couple of screws. Screw that
