1. I sometimes find myself using my thumb for some slow songs or where I want more of a thud. I mainly use fingers but also use a pick on occasion, thumb and also slap certain things- not Mark King slap but more Larry Graham slap over the pickup rather than over the top frets. Sounds completely different
2. Wasn't it around this time that the thin neck versions were available? I'm sure they did the standard and jazz width necks Its been a while since I've been through the EBMM forum so I'm a bit rusty with dates
3. I had one of those until last week - 3rd Planet Waves cable to give up in the last month - 5th cable in the last 2 Just ordered a new one from OBBM
4. My plan now is to get 2 12" cabs and use one with the wedding band as a monitor and 2 for the rock band. I've spotted 2 that sound really good but need to sell my Warmoth P first, then I'll be selling my Schroeder cab. If they go before my bass sells then I am considering the same cabs as you have
5. Fantastic - I've emailed them for more specs and how I go about ordering
6. I would really like to sell this soon as I've spotted a couple of cabs that I would really like to get. I will be selling my Schroeder 1212L once I get them providing I am happy with them but need to sell the bass to fund the cabs first.
7. Here's a source for screws, bolts and stuff but more importantly, american size fixings. Got some 10/32 socket head screws for my Genz amp. No minimum order - you can literally order a couple of screws- I did! 8. Well spotted but I'm trying to find something that looks like it was always there rather than bolted on. If I could find the ones that Schroeder use I'd be laughing
9. Managed to find a source for the screws in the UK http://www.stagonset.co.uk/fasteners?t=123...d=6587087_17592 £3.00 delivered. I bought 2 1/2"and 2 1" tosee which would be better. I've had a thought about my cabs and am eyeing up a couple of 12" ones that look ideal. I will need to sell my Warmoth initially to pay for them, then I will sell my Schroeder cab.
10. I was going to get one of the normal trolleys and attach it permanently to the rack for the poweramps but with my cab I wanted something a bit neater that still kept it light weight. I can't imagine that Jorg Schroeder has these made to spec, I've always assumed that he buys them off the shelf. Unfortunately I'm not speaking to him at the moment so will not be getting one from him.
11. I'm trying to find somewhere that does these in the UK http://www.schroedercabinets.com/dolly.htm I've found this in US https://www.tchweb.com/cgi-bin/TCH2.storefr...;2D2306&2D1 The closest Adam Hall has is this http://www.adamhall.com/uk/AH_K--Extendabl...ect_27__b--3471 Any ideas where I could get one of these?
12. Am I the only one who's spotted the big 'R' on the lower bout in every picture?
13. Still on the honeymoon period with mine - first gig with the rock band in Saturday so if you don't see it here on Sunday then it means that I still like it.
14. I think 'I'm Rick James Bitch' only posed for the album cover. I heard he didn't really use one. Roger Waters Pete Quaife (Kinks) Donovan John Deacon did use one but had changed to a P before joining Queen Someone on the Rickresource has Maurice Gibb's old white Rick John Entwhistle had one of the first 1999 models Mike Rutherford used a 4080 double neck in Genesis, Geddy also used a 4080.
15. right, deep breath: people who play 6+ string basses in rock bands Ashdown - its sh*t wooly, indistinct crap that generally fails most of the time Spalted maple tops - yes I'd like to have some overpriced crap that looks like OSB put on the top of my bass and I'd like you to charge me one squillion pounds for it. Fender - One downside of Fender being the first mass produced bass manufacturer is that everyone associates bass with them, like Coke. There are more ranges of basses that seem to overlap than something something. People are still going to buy them as they are either ignorant of the many basses that are better than them or are name Snobs. Gibson - How could a company that producs such fantastic guitars produce such sh*tty basses - 'hey guys, I have an idea: lets make a range of very fragile basses that try to hit the floor every time you let go of them. What we'll do is glue the neck to the body as well so they can't simply change the neck when it does break because they all will eventually. That way we'll be able to sell more of them' Marcus Miller - stop trying to look cool with the pouted lips thing and smile once in a while - why can't you be more like Nathan East? He never stops smiling. Double thumbing - nothing there I can't do with 2 fingers and be less tired by the end of it. Active EQ with more controls than the Hubbel Space telescope - Unless you play a tube amp, chances are your amp has an active EQ built in that can acheive the sound you are looking for. People that use the words/phrases/acronyms: Dial in the tone, the dude totally owns that bass, in the pocket, mwah, wood shedding, anything else you may see on Talkbs, etc. The fact that most bass players only see how many watts an amp/cab/combo has rather than how efficiently it can turn it into sound due to brainwashing by companies promoting their gear that way. eg an 8x10" 6000w monster cab with an SPL of 92dB Why do valve amps need to be so expensive? Most of the designs have been around for years so unless they are point to point hard wired by the ghost of Leo Fender there is no reason why they should be sometimes 4-5 times as expensive as tranny ones Rickenbacker & Musicman basses. I love the shape and the look of both but cannot get either one to sound like how you'd expect them to. Rickenbacker - why haven't they caught up with technology and produced a single truss rod that anyone can use themselves without fear of the fretboard popping off? Why is their bridge design the same? It makes it so difficult and time consuming to adjust the intonation. Most people I have spoken with prefer the pickup cover off. Why haven't Rick produced a design that doesn't result in turning your bass into a cheesegrater for your fingers when you take it off without putting one of those pickguardian thingy on? Coated strings. I thought the purpose was to make the coating invisible? They feel really sticky and cause my fingers to drag across them. They also sound dead straight out the packet. Flatwound strings - I love the strings but why can't they tell you what their roundwound equivelant is so that i don't have to go through 10 sets to find something that doesn't feel like I'm playing with rubber bands, or an Ashbory? Plectrums - I love the sound that Chris Squire gets but when I use one, i don't feel like I am actually playing. I cannot play with any emotion. I am not dissing them, I just cannot get used to the fact that only one hand is touching the strings. I feel something is lost when using one. And, yes, I do use one for a couple of songs that need one to emulate the sound off the record. In fact I use the same ones as Chris Squire Single cut basses - they simply look wrong. Dosn't having what would effectively be the top horn attached to the neck affect what you can do with the truss rod without breaking something? Alembic & Fodera. I don't personally see how spending as much as i would on a second hand car could possibly sound that much better. Maybe its the spalt. Any company that claims to be at the cutting edge of design with amps and then produces very innefficient cabs Companies that produce a signature series bass that someone famous uses which is no where as good as the one the actual artist uses.
16. I have to say that I haven't played my bass since I put it in its gig bag after finishing my hogmanay gig so nothing new for me
17. Great basses, I've just never got my sound out of a Jazz
18. Here's a couple of pics of my old one if that's any help Ignore the scratchplate. I fitted a black one, a black control plate, white pickup covers and red DR strings as well
19. didn't Mark King have something like this done by Fender for his own artist model? can vagueley remember that it was blue with SIMS LEDs
20. Really nice bass - would've been interested if it had been red. have a bump on me
21. I don't think so - I was on the list for buying it. Think Beedster swapped it
22. We had this playing through the PA when we were in another room so we could only really hear the bass and were amazed at how bad the bass was on the record. If you want a better version, check out the one by Michael Buble - it has an extra middle solo thingy going on as well. VM strikes me as the kind of guy who doesn't really enjoy what he is doing but it pays the rent.
23. I've had a crazy idea and need prodded in the right direction. I haven't asked the question yet so don't know if this will be possible. In my quest for small and light and the fact that these shuttle saddles aren't available separately, would I be silly to see if there is some way that Darren at the Bass Merchant could work something out for me where my Shuttle 6.0 becomes a 6.0-12T combo? My plan would be to use the combo on its own for small gigs where I use it as a monitor and buy a second 12" cab for use in larger gigs with no PA support. I wouldn't expect him to take my amp back, even though its only done 2 gigs but even sending back the box for my amp and him sending me back a shuttle combo minus the head, along with a 12" cab. This would mean me selling my Schroeder 1212L.
24. Wait, are we talking about the Fender or the toilet?
