1. I converted a tired bolt on rick copy to a 5 stringer and put an EMG 35DC pickup in the bridge position and it sounded fantastic.
2. I prefer a more dirty "who are you looking at?" tone and I get that in barrel fulls from my cab. Don't think that these cabs are proper la de da, where shall I place the salad fork mama? stupid crap. These are the bollocks. The bollocks - these are the Bon Scott of bass cabs
3. exactamundo - guitars need valves. basses do not, but they are nice to have
4. So how was the amp? Wait for it------ haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaa
5. We did this as a request one night. I think its the kind of song that should be busked unheard than perfect swatty bum lick. Watch Pulp Fiction and you should've heard enough to get you by. Go for the jazz man. Jazz hands will get you going. Jazz to me = interesting but incorrect lines that the audience aren't aware of.
6. Well, I've always loved the bleach blonde thumb so we could go halfers on a bid. Or we could if i had more than 2 bob to my name
7. Over on the Warwick forum I've discovered 4 options: Buy strings with a tapered low B File the slot in the saddle so standard strings will fit Crimp the ends of the strings to allow them to pass through Buy a new tailpiece that allows you use standard non-tapered strings I think I would prefer the first option. If you plan on keeping your Corvette for a while or even plan on changing to another 5 string Warwick, I would probably choose the last one as you can take it from bass to bass I'm surprised Warwickhunt hasn't been here yet as he's owned most models as well as spectors
8. Once broken in, the1212L kicks major ass. Sometimes seen as very midrangey, you can add in a load of bass with no farts. I'm going to be using mine this weekend with my latest 5 string acquisition. This will be the very first time I have used it with a 5 string. I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that someone had a 1210R which they reckon sounded very much like a 1212L but that would've been one of the models that i have before Jorg started using the new drivers
9. The big problem I had was the actual part just past the ball end fitting into the groove on the tailpiece as regular strings can be too large to fit through there. The string also needs to taper quickly after the nut so as not to snap when the thick part goes round the tuning post as I discovered and did.
10. That website's fantastic but I'm still curious what this is going to be as I don't think many people will want big holes cut in their basses and big metal grills installed.
11. One of my favourite basses was an Epiphone Thunderbird. If you can live with the neck dive it has a fantastic slim neck
12. All the cuts look like they were done with a hacksaw. Lot of weird angles and that neck plate looks like it was made in metal work class
13. Your manual tells you that Black & Yellow label strings come with the tapered B as standard http://www.warwick.de/media/manuals/Basses...ssManual_EN.pdf
14. I'd personally go for one with wheels like the Ibanez. my Gold Warmoth weighs enough on its own
15. This is going to look the bollocks when its finished
16. If you buy this, you'll have all the big bands gunning for you :brow: I didn't have a coat
17. If this happens I'd definitely be in. How about we each give you £11 out of the goodness of our hearts - you donate £1 from that to charity and that £1 donation entitles us to a charity raffle entry? Would it be feasible to set up an account whereby members put in their £10-11 or whatever - if the bass fails to generate 100 people interested, the game's a bogey and that money could be used by those members towards the next raffle? That saves Thunderthumbs from having to refund, say, 84 Paypal payments if it doesn't follow through. Next raffle, you have 40 people from the last raffle interested plus another 60 new takers - this one goes ahead and the jobs a goodun. The remaining members are free to keep their money in the account or withdraw it (providing it isn't going to put anyone out of pocket) I'm no legal beagle so perhaps someone who actually knows what they are talking about could come to my rescue.
18. Have a look around, there's plenty of info on here. Personally, I'm using a Genz Shuttle 6.0 head and Schroeder 1212L cab which, combine,d comes in at around 58lbs and could go louder than my guitarist who has a 120w Peavey 5150 which weighs as much as a small village if I needed to. Once you've had a look, you'll realise that it has little to do with watts and more about how efficiently your cab can convert the power to sound
19. I use my gold Warmoth with both my wedding and rock bands. I need a clean sound for the wedding band as we have a drummer, guitarist and keyboard player so I don't want to be lost in a mushy bassiness. I like to have an overdrivey type sound with the rock band as a) it is the kind of sound I prefer and it fills out the band as there is only the drummer, guitarist and me. I don't like pedals or mucking about extensively with controls so a knob or switch would suit me. Before going down the lightweight route, I was seriuously considering an all-valve amp but the weight out me off. I would definitely be up for something like this. I'm very interested to see what you have in mind
20. I want some doritos
21. There are a lot of basses for sale on here that I would love to own, especially the Duck Dunn. There are at least 8 or 9 others I have spotted. There are also about 5 speaker cabs as well including the big Schroeder Cab that WoT is selling and the Aguilar Tweed number as well. I'd rather not go round PMing everyone and getting other peoples hopes up of trades so if anyone here has a bass or cab for sale here that they would like to trade then let me know. I'm going to be in Southport in 3 weeks time so if posting was an issue for you and you don't live too far away from there. that is, far enough for the missus to complain seeing as we're on holiday, then let me know and we can work something out.
22. Possibly making room for the new GK MB500? I expect them to be the new flavour of the month for lightweight amps when they eventually become available. I'm still loving mine as well. Did my first gig with the rock band last night. Valve pre and input volume at 12 o'clock and output barely at 8 o'clock and it was loud as hell. All other settings flat.
23. Definitely a furniture upholsterer. There's plenty of places online that do the stuff for it. Loads on ebay as well. Depending on the cab and your cackhandedness it shouldn't be too difficult to do it yourself.
24. That's an absolute bargain - I sold a set of '73 Fender tuners for more than that
25. I've decided to open this up to trades as well as a straight sale: It is a phenomenal bass, very fat and gives an almost all-tube sound through my Genz Shuttle (and previous GK 700RB II head). The specs are as follows: Swamp ash body finished in butterscotch blonde maple neck with vintage satin laquer and vintage Fender sized fret wire and Jazz width neck Gotoh Resolite lightweight reverse action tuners Tusq nut Lollar '51 pickup Gotoh 201 bridge CTS pots, vintage wiring, Fender US jack, paper in oil cap. Chrome pickup and bridge covers Maple single screw tugbar Black single ply scratchplate Schaller straplocks Optima chrome plated strings The specs are exactly as per a '57 pre-facelift single coil P bass would be except where I have had to substitute for parts no longer available, such as CTS pots instead of the original Stackpole ones. I use this bass with a Genz Shuttle 6.0 and Schroeder 1212L and it produces are really big, fat, warm, growly sounds but remains very clear. it has really good balance and the action is pretty low on it as well. Being only a couple of months old it is in excellent condition. the only visible marks are slight cracking of the laquer round the jack socket when I was building it. The marks are very small and you have to look very carefully to be able to see them. Despite drilling pilot holes, I still managed to snap 3 of the screws for the machineheads. Luckily there was only one snappage per machine so it doesn't affect their ability to do their job. i was going to glue the heads back on but didn't get round to it. I think I still have the heads somewhere. When I was drilling the holes for the bridge cover I put one in the wrong place so had to drill another. With the covers on, no one will be the wiser but I'm telling you so that there are no nasty surprises. it comes complete with a non-Fender tweed case as seen in the above pictures which finishes the look nicely. What you are getting here is a made in USA bass but far better quality than a similar US made Fender IMO. There are no rough edges, bad finish or poorly put togeher components. it may not have the Fender name on it but it is twice the bass a regular USA made Fender is IMO. Make no mistake, you will be getting an extremely well put together bass that sounds absolutely fantastic. Not to mention that you cannot buy anything of this spec in any shop Bearing all this in mind and considering that there isn't anything else like this available off the shelf I have decided a price of £600. This price includes delivery to mainland UK,excluding the usual postcodes that attract a supplement. I am also considering trades for the right bass or cab with cash in my direction (I'm skint) or a straight swap. The kind of things I am looking for are: Fender or Fender clone Precision bass Warwick Corvette, Fortress, Streamer or similar Yamaha BB5000, BB5000a, BB3000MA or Attitude Ibanez Epiphone EB3 Peavey TL5 or 6 or Rudy Sarzo Riverhead Jupiter bass This isn't everything - in fact most of the list comprises of complete long shots but it gives the idea of what I am after. One thing though - I don't like Jazz basses. I would also be interested in 5 strings and fretless basses Cabs: Bergantino, Epifani, Schroeder, Eden Nemesis, Genz, Markbass etc The purpose is to find a large cab or combination of 2 cabs for gigging without PA support. MY 1212L is plenty loud enough but I miss the bottom end my Trace stuff used to provide but don't want the weight of the Trace. This list isn't exhaustive and I am interested to find out what else is out there so PM me with what you have and what kind of trade you would be interested in.
