Help with finding a great quality Bass Head!
Delberthot replied to Anton346's topic in Amps and Cabs
Have you tried changing the valve in the preamp? that can make a difference as normally you find cheaper tubes in there. Also, you can rack mount your amp.You just need a set of rack ears. there are 2 screws on each side of the amp that you just undo and it will slip out of the sleeve. -

Lakland Duck Dunn Skyline or Japanese Fender Precision?
Delberthot replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I would love to try the Duck Dunn to find out if it sounds as good as it looks. Absolutely stunning bass -

$18 for a cap. I got a dozen 1mF paper in oil caps from a guy in Belgium for less than a fiver. Bloody good they are too. I had one of the Luxe ones in my '57 Warmoth single coil bass. They do sound good and look original but if you are looking for a PIO cap which IMO are far better than standard ones, then have a look on Ebay. there's loads to be had for much cheapness.
I don't see why that would necessarily be the case. The vast majority of upgrades make an indistinguishable difference in a live setting where the main issue with the sound is the venue and the mix, where noone in the crowd is going to have magic ears, and most of them are drunk. As much as I like the gear talk on here, frankly if the pickup sounds passable (as even my Yamaha Pacifica does) and stays in tune then nothing else really matters. Certainly the case with the the Peppers, who aren't a big 'texture' band. I think the notion here that everybody who makes a living playing bass has extraordinarily modified instruments is a bit wide of the mark.
Totally agree. As I've mentioned before: while my Warmoth was being made, I used a no name jazz copy that cost me about £20 for a lot of gigs.

I've never found a MIA or MIM that I've liked. Japanese Fenders are the bollocks. One of the only basses I ever regret selling was a Coral Pink P bass with a maple fretboard. f***ing fantastic bass. If I were to buy another Fender, it would only be a CIJ - whether one of the regular models or an import

Holy Jebus I've just spotted the new neck through epiphone thunderbird - £349! Everything's going tits up with the Pound going up, down, round and round, looping the loop and defying the ground.

Sounds like a smart move, surprised he is only doing it now. He must be one of the best known mainstream bass players out there so for a lot of people looking to pick up a bass for the first time or as a backup, to have something with such a high profile player's name on it for such a low price is fantastic. I can't see him doing a higher spec version unless it is going to be made by a well known company.

I've been using mine for a couple of years now and its just as good as it was when I got it. I have the cross-walker model with the packpack attached but I normally keep them separately as my bass is a heavy bugger to begin with without having a bag full of cables attached. Both components are gigged regularly and still look brand new.

My understanding of the system is that they use the same frequency as wireless routers use. My router is in the opposite corner of the house to the computer that I am typing this with. I think they're just saying that if you have line of sight you can get up to 300 feet away from the receiver with no signal loss. You'd have to be playing somewhere like Wembley to be able to get that kind of distance. They are selling a lot of the broadcasting frequencies, this system goes down to 20Hz, it has a quick charge which means that you can set up your gear and come back to it an hour later with 4 hours worth of playing time in it, it doesn't have a big pack that you need to attach to your strap. Personally, the size of the bug, the battery life, the way that it charges and the frequency it uses are the big selling points for me.

Slightly odd '78 Fender Precision
Delberthot replied to mathewsanchez's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I can see where you guys are going wrong - it actually a '1978 Fender bass percussion'. That would explain the state of the side of the neck - its been used to perform rim shots on a huge drum. (please note that this is a drumming term and not some perverse sexual practice) Jeez, it looks like someone's been trying to gnaw away at the edge of the neck -
I use a Shuttle and a Schroeder 1212L for everything, whether as my backline or out front sound and its never let me down. I think BassFerret uses the shuttle with 2 12" Genz cabs.

We do Dani California with the rock band. 20+ years later I finally manage to get a band to play a bloody Chilis song (we also do Ender the Bridge) With the wedding band we do Chelsea Dagger and its the only song that I ever use a plectrum and like to give it loads. I would absolutely love to do a Yes track one of these days

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound I love that pretentious prog rock stuff

My 1212L is 42lbs so 50lbs aint that much more. I've actually just realised that this is the Vintage model. That is the one that I would like to see and hear.

No room for adjustment on my Warmoth neck
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've emailed Warmoth back and forward this evening and Rob is going to look into it for me so I'll update this when he gets back to me. -
No room for adjustment on my Warmoth neck
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
The truss rod nut feels like it is so loose that it will come off - not at all like a slack truss rod. I don;t want to turn it any more as it will probably come off and I'll have to take the neck off to get it back on since its a bit fiddly in there. -
No room for adjustment on my Warmoth neck
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm currently using Roto RS66. I have used EB Power Slinkies in the past which are stupidly high tension and still nothing. The gold Optimas that I had were also high tension as well -
I normally play with quite a high action but fancied a change and decided to see how low I could get the strings without them buzzing on my Warmoth. Answer was - not very far. I only have a little relief on the neck and was looking to add more but the trouble is that the truss rod nut is as loose as it goes. If i turn it any more, it will come off. Probably due to the combination of a wenge neck and steel bar reinforcement I'm trying to weigh up my options on what the best course of action is. I have 3 possible routes: Crank the truss rod right up and have it planed flat so that when I loosten it, it will give me the desired amount of relief. Go for a graphite neck which would probably drastically alter the sound of the bass. Find a neck with properties similar to my wenge/ebony one but easier to adjust Are these my only options or are there others?

Now that's a proper punk bass

If you immediately decide to put your hard earned into a custom made bass and then don't like it then you'll lose a lot selling it on. Especially being a lefty. Might be a bit difficult being a lefty but why not try as much as you can first? My story is that my favourite bass was the Fender '51 reissue P bass but couldn't get on with the lack of body contouring so when I had my Warmoth bass built I incorporated all the best aspects from over 50 basses that i had played over a period of a couple of years rather than just making a similar version of the one I already had. As a result, it looks like a '54 shape but is comprised of features from Warwick, Musicman, Epiphone, Bass Collection, Modulus and Fender. You also mention that you only recently bought the Warwick. I would recommend that you keep it a lot longer to make sure that this is the route you want to take if you do decide to have one custom made on the strength of this one bass. I've had many basses and a lot of them have been 'the one' only to decide that it wasn't for me in the end.
