Can't believe I'm doing this at nearly 60
Delberthot replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
we used to do that version of Word Up years ago - fantastic. We also currently do a few of the others. Part of the reason that I have been investing in lightweight gear and easier ways to transport it is so that I'm not completely broken by the time I reach my 50s so i can still keep on playing. Isn't it every rockers wish right at the end to die on stage in front of hundreds of screaming fans and go down in a blaze of glory as a legend? -

I sold my Trace stuff long before getting a digital camera but I used to run a 7210H combo with a 1048H cabinet and later went on to use a 1153 cab as a monitor. The singer in my rock band has one of the 2x10" wedge monitors I think I may be ill as I have been dreaming about the 1225V combo almost every night for the last week. When I got my combo, the 1225V was the top banana as far as I was concerned. The other night i dreamt I used one with Iron Maiden. If anyone has one, please post a pic as it may be the only cure short of actually going out and finding one to try.

MUSICMAN stingray 4 / 5 & Sterling - Same sound??
Delberthot replied to Shonks's topic in Bass Guitars
The Stingray 5 is a bit strange. It has the looks of the Silouette guitar and the electronics of the Sterling which is a bit strange in itself since there is now a 5 string Sterling - surely it would be better to change the 5 String Stingray to have the same electronics as the 4 string. the preamp in the Stingray has changed over the years from the first 2 band Eq models to the 3 band EQ. If you want more info on the preamps, go to the EB forum and go into the thread that begins 'dating your musicman' or something like that. In there, there is a link to a whole host of info about the evolution of all the components of the Stingray. I've had 2 5 strings, 2 standard 4 strings, a fretless, 20th anniversary and 30th anniversary models. the best one I had was the 30th anniversary which I put down to the mahogany body which is really the only thing different about that model. I've always wanted to try a 2 band EQ as many feel that this is the true Stingray sound without the mid-band. The SR5 came out around 1987 and as far as I know is still exactly as it was when it first came out. I think that it is mainly or possibly only the SR4 that has evolved over the years. Its just like Fenders - there have been many changes over the years, some better than others so different people like different eras of models. I personally prefer the newer models as they have the rounded over pole pieces on the pickups - the older ones, especially on my 20th anniversary SR4 were cut straight across and a bit rough to the touch, especially if you play right over the pickup. -

Its normally 250k pots for single coils which yours is and 500k for humbuckers. I say normally because I use 500k pots and paper-in-oil cap in my single coil P bass

A good reason to buy iColour lights
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just changed the defective bulb and gave it a clean inside and out. Easy job, there's only 1 small plastic screw that you unfasten with your fingers and the whole lid is hinged. I bought 2 packets of bulbs so there's still 5 left for emergencies. I totally agree about quick to set up. 1 cable from the controller, which is mounted permanently on my music stand to the master light and another cable to the slave, plug both of them in and Bob's your aunties husband. Everything packs away into a case to keep it shiny and lemon fresh -
April.s Bass Player,most boring ever ?
Delberthot replied to KennysFord's topic in General Discussion
My first issue was also the one with Billy Sheehan on the cover. Being 16 years old and no readily available interweb, I assumed it was normal for bass players to use 6 string basses as that was generally the main feature I found. There were a lot of really good reviews but tended to interview a lot of people that I wasn't remotely interested in or had a clue who they were and who seemed like complete r soles. This may sound funny but I found it too 'American'. Just like Talkbs can get on my goat after a while. I loved Bassist and probably bought a lot of gear off the back of a review but sometimes you become satisfied with what you have so half the magazine doesn't get read. On BC, we have the freedom to roam all the different sections reading what we want to read and adding information of our own so the idea of a printed magazine that's probably already out of date and that you physically have to get off your bum to go and get and pay for becomes pointless. -
we invested in a pair of iColour lights at the end of last year as our old par cans were getting a bit tired after 13 years of regular use. They were expensive but our keyboard player works in the trade and managed to get them for a decent price. Anyway, my guitarist called today to remind me that one of the bulbs had blown at the last gig and since I keep them at my house, I went to find out how much it would cost for a new one, expecting them to be around £20-30 each. Not ever close £3.48 from B&Q for 3 bulbs. Probably my fault for not cleaning them as regularly as it says to in the instructions but cor blimey guvnor, down the old Kent Road, apples and pears, £3.48? A grand total of £1.16 per bulb.

I've got one of the Korg pedal tuners. Its really good and I actually prefer it to the Fender rack one I used to have.It seems to be a lot more stable. http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/shop/view_p...product=kordt10 not the cheapest but many cheaper tuners are only suitable for guitar due to the lack of repsonse on lower frequencies

Ah, the 12 string. Sadly I no longer have that one but did use it for a while with my rock band. The kind of music I play and the type of player I am didn't suit. You can't go hell for leather with it, otherwise you end up with a lot of noise and mush.

Probably of no use to you but I have had almost all my Japanese Fender's as mail order and never ever had a bad one. Would a non-export model be out of the question for more piece of mind quality and playability wise?

I had the great fortune to play in a big band for a couple of years when I was in my late teens. All the other guys in the band were aged between 60-80 and had such amazing stories to tell as they had been playing in various bands for years. I totally admire people that can score arrangements for an entire 16 piece band. Some of the 'younger' ones are still playing but there is little doing round my way now. I wish I had had the chance to play upright with these guys. I did manage to get a convincing tone with dead strings and plenty of muting. I played upright with a junior orchestra but that was only up until I was 18 as I used the school's upright. Anyway, I digress. My favourites were Satin Doll, Tangerine & Caribbean Clipper although I did also like most of the Glen Miller and Count Basie stuff, especially Bones For Basie.
Cheers! Lets see yours!
Ooooh Matron. Not that I'm one to flash my Warmoth about but I haven't posted any pics of it for about a week. These 2 basses are probably a good indicator of the extremes Warmoth can go to for what you want.

Has anyone ever added a musicman pickup to a single coil p bass?
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Bass Guitars
i wasn't intending to run both pickups together. I wanted more of a 2 basses in one kind of thing. Single coil exactly as it is just now and the musicman wired passively with its own volume and treble wired straight to the jack as well. So I can have it as it is now and then switch to just the musicman pickup for other stuff. I was thinking along the lines of a Villex pickup - something that was designed to be passive. I'm actually wondering now what a second single coil would sound like there? i could use both of those wired like a jazz and get the benefits of hum cancelling. Lots more to think about before i start putting holes in my beloved bass -
Does anyone know who is making these? Shine, Cort etc or a new company?

I had one of their neck through 8 string basses. Very well made but the clear coating always looked cheap to me. didn't they make Epiphones at one point?
