1. we're all interested
2. They may very well do I stealthed a Geddy a couple of years ago Slightly different. I had a black scratchplate, control plate and red strings. White pickup covers
3. Yup. Spotted that one as well. As a veteran Ebay seller. I miss nothing
4. I dunno but John learned the double bass overnight when they were recording Night at the Opera so that he could play 39 Apparently he went off one night saying that the song would sound best with a double and came back to De Lane Lea (sp?) with a double bass
5.
Ill second that. I would pay good money just to say Brian, Roger and John do a concert together. Deaky!!
You mean just to see a concert, othrwise you have just paid good money for nowt for saying such a thing I know what you mean though. That would be the ultimate gig for me. You can forget Pink Floyd 1994 and the Eagles a couple of years ago. You could even stick the Chilis up your arse if I could only see John Deacon play again Wait - you are John Deacon
6. Have to admit that he's my all time favourite bass player. I'd absolutely love to meet him and chat to him and buy the red precision that he used on the 'One vision' video. Queen and Paul Rogers? There aint no Queen without the Deacy
7. I've seen that before and it is really informative. Helped me before buying my Shuttle I've had a look and there isn;t a lot of choice as regards digital switching amps
8. I'm really happy with my Shuttle and bought it for the weight but am very happy with the sound after much tweaking. I have always fancied getting myself a proper tube preamp like an Ampeg SVP or an SWR Grand Prix or something like that. What's out there in the poweramp department that's reasonably powerful and reliable but not really expensive? Rack mount preferrably and under £500.
9. can't be that old either going by the hernia inducing stack of doom. Either that or he's Lou Ferrigno I'm only 34 and onto a digital amp and a lightweight cab already
10. 8x10" & Amp for £250! 11. I've been after one of these for yonks And so on
12. If the string is touching the fretboard you are either the Hulk or your strings are made of linguine
13. now that's spicy meatball
14. Lordy mama, my favourite colour combination on a P - red body, white scratchplate and maple fretboard.
15. Don't get me wrong, the bass looks absolutely fantastic and sounds really good as well but whenever I get this out: Nothing else comes close. That and I really enjoyed stripping it down and giving it a good clean so I'll probably get something else and do the same at some point.
16. And now on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140320517164
17. And now on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140320517164
18. Inevitable really. I've got the restoration bug so now after cleaning up this bass, I'm after something new to work on. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140320517164
19. Its finally finished and here are the pics of it. I can't believe that this bass is 30 years old - the hardare was so skanky and stinky and now it looks almost brand new. I've decided to return it to its former glory with all the original bits. I'm pretty confident that these all came with bridge covers but the one on this looks like the pickup cover off a single coil P bass. There are no other screw holes so either its original or the existing holes lined up perfectly with this one
20. Got right back onto it today and began by removing the strings and the bridge. Here's a pic showing what's left of the snapped screw. Luckily (or unluckily) its snapped flush with the body meaning that I don't have to worry about it getting in the way of the original bridge but conversely I can't take it out as there's nothing to hold onto. I lso noticed that after putting the original bridge back on, the saddles are both diferent. How queer. Anyway, that's all I'm showing you here. The rest is over in the gear porn section here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=48512
21. I've never played an Alembic or a Zon so can't comment on those but apart from that the best brand for me is Warmoth. So many choices. i was able to get everything I wanted. My choice of woods, components etc. Made in the USA and all for second hand MIA Fender money. When i get the cash together I would really like another Spector Euro 4. I owned one briefly but had a faulty truss rod and couldn't get another like it and ended up getting something else. I do remember that it was insanely good but that may be the rose tinted specs.
22. Damnit. Exactly what I want to try- where's money when you need it?
23. That one's been on there before. It looks very clean except for the bridge which does look old. The older ones had compressed fibre saddles which this one looks to have. He says that it has been looked after but basses at that time would've had bakelite scratchplates which all disintegrated after a while. I would have to say that this also looks like a refin with the original screw holes for the bridge cover filled prior to this. There may be variations but normally the ones I have seen have the string retainer a lot closer to the F of the Fender logo. I'm not trying to say that this is not original but for the kind of money this would be worth if original, I would be going into a lot more detail about the bass or trying to find someone who could tell me more about it as most people, even non-musicians, know that old Fenders are worth a fortune. Much as I hate to see it done, the best way to accurately date this bass would be to see the date on the heel of the neck and any other markings. The stackpole pots didn't come stamped with dates until late 1958 so we can't date it from those. The scratchplate doesn't have any holes for the tugbar. I'm pretty sure that a 1953 would still have only 1 screw hole for the wooden rest. I'm also pretty sure that the string ferrules on the back sat proud of the body and the later reissues from the late 60s such as the Telecaster had flush fitted ones. Yes, I do need to get out more
24. When I was just a nipper I put a bit of foam under the strings in front of the bridge cos I'd seen John Deacon do that on an old concert video. Didn't like it though. A few years ago I had a fretless stingray and the original mutes had disintegrated so I bought a Rickenbacker one and cut it into the pieces needed. It had double sided sticky on the back so it was dead easy to attach. I used them occasionally for certain songs.
