1. Quarter pounder for me also but I will eventually get round to ordering a Lollar pickup for it.
2.
fair enough! well it's good to know your warmoth is still the favourite dangerous game though! if you find something better than your warmoth, what will you do?
I'm just back from a gig tonight and the warmoth just keeps geting better.
3. Just spotted this over on Gumtree. http://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/48/38141848.html Located in Coatbidge
4. Do you play right over the pickup or to the right of it? If you play far enough to the right you may get away with a pickup cover but you have to go the whole hog and get the bridge one as well.
5. I played 5, 6, 8 and 12 string bases for years and only went back to a 4 permanently a couple of years ago. I found the transition easy and when I had my Warmoth built I specified Jazz width. I hate jazz basses with a passion but love the necks on them.
6. I think you should hire me as an adviser. I could then fly to US at your expense and tell you if the Coppolo factory is in NY or California. Afterwards I could take the measurements of what you are looking for shape wise for a bass, number of strings and then go on a carribean cruise with the missus. When I return I will present you with your new bass which will be a no name jazz bass off ebay with a Fender logo applied crookedly for extra mojo By that time you'll have realised that the bass you desire so much, you already own - you're happy and I've got a tan. How does that sound?
7. Is it still available? I have an old zebra I could trade
8. Couple of things - 'reliced' as a word is wrong If you're going to relic a bass at least try to find pictures of a bass that's had it done naturally over time Lastly, I like custard
9. I've got an urge to get myself a fretless - Yes, I know I'm selling one but I fancy something more Fendery in style. I've come across some crazy crap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electric-Bass-Guitar...3A1%7C294%3A200 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970s-Hohner-F-hole-...3A1%7C294%3A200 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Bass-Guitar-4-st...3A1%7C294%3A200 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Fretless-Seven-...3A1%7C294%3A200 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-PRO-7-STRING-FRE...3A1%7C294%3A200 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-Saiter-Fretless-Me...3A2%7C294%3A200
10. Yes How about masking tape? Electical tape is too gunky after time if you ever want to take it off as is sellotape I do have to emphasise that you would really need to be a clumsy bugger to damage the pickup
11. So does anyone have any view on this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=360154562303
12. I like shiny and new. I don't particlularly want a 30+ year old battered bass with grubby tuners from years of sweat and fags that I feel I have to wash my hands after I play it. I would love a mid 50s Precision but I would immediately have to take the hardare off and clean it which would remove the mojo and snake oil etc. Do I really not want an old Fender or am I trying to talk myself out of getting one? You decide.
13. I've owned 2 '51 reissues and have built 2 Warmoth single coil P basses and I think that as long as you don't use the pickup as a thumb rest you're ok. They are more exposed but I certainly don't treat my bass any differently to one with a covered pickup. I've heard stories about the top coming off but I think that either comes from a faulty pickup or someone physically trying to wreck their bass. One night i was playing slightly more aggressive than normal and managed to get the E string stuck under the pickup and I don't have the pickup particularly close to the strings but it didn't damage anything. No point in putting a chrome cover over the top as some of the best tones can be had around the pickup. For most of my playing life I've played Stingrays so I naturally play with my right hand over where the Stingray pickup would normally be. Also gets in the way when you go from playing fingerstyle to slapping. These basses have one of the most unique slap tones. Absolutely love it.
14. Didn't you have a maple fretless precision before? I'd have had your arm off for it if I had been able to afford it at the time
15. He looks more like a physics teacher every day
16. I've found this but can't locate it on the KAM website http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=360154562303 My band used a regular KAM amp to drive the top cabs for years.
17. Benoit David is fantastic. This is my favourite song of all time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NdKTkGNRNo Close your eyes and its almost the little chap and Rick Wakeman
18. we're all interested
19. They may very well do I stealthed a Geddy a couple of years ago Slightly different. I had a black scratchplate, control plate and red strings. White pickup covers
20. Yup. Spotted that one as well. As a veteran Ebay seller. I miss nothing
21. I dunno but John learned the double bass overnight when they were recording Night at the Opera so that he could play 39 Apparently he went off one night saying that the song would sound best with a double and came back to De Lane Lea (sp?) with a double bass
22.
Ill second that. I would pay good money just to say Brian, Roger and John do a concert together. Deaky!!
You mean just to see a concert, othrwise you have just paid good money for nowt for saying such a thing I know what you mean though. That would be the ultimate gig for me. You can forget Pink Floyd 1994 and the Eagles a couple of years ago. You could even stick the Chilis up your arse if I could only see John Deacon play again Wait - you are John Deacon
23. Have to admit that he's my all time favourite bass player. I'd absolutely love to meet him and chat to him and buy the red precision that he used on the 'One vision' video. Queen and Paul Rogers? There aint no Queen without the Deacy
24. I've seen that before and it is really informative. Helped me before buying my Shuttle I've had a look and there isn;t a lot of choice as regards digital switching amps
25. I'm really happy with my Shuttle and bought it for the weight but am very happy with the sound after much tweaking. I have always fancied getting myself a proper tube preamp like an Ampeg SVP or an SWR Grand Prix or something like that. What's out there in the poweramp department that's reasonably powerful and reliable but not really expensive? Rack mount preferrably and under £500.
