1. Nice. Welcome to the Warmoth club.
2. As above. Don't go hell for leather and try to tighten it to the point where you are puffing and panting. You'll know exactly when it is tight enough. I use a Stanley ratchet screwdriver and it is clear when using one of those when something is tight enough.
3. I was going to add this to the original thread but I can't find it so here it is: http://www.basscentre.com/4-string-bass-gu...ass-guitar.html It'll be interesting to read some of the first reviews to see what people are making of this. May go over to Talkbs and see if anyone there has one yet.
4. To paraphrase Eric Clapton "There was as much cr@p in the 60s as there is now". I think we had a period in the 90s where a lot of what was coming out in the mainstream was simple and straightforward. usually when you are growing up you listen to the stuff that's in the charts and learn from that so we had bass players who, for arguments sake, Listened to Oasis. Their bass lines tend to be very straigtforward to learn. Said bass players learn these songs and then think they're good. Not that there's anything wrong with Oasis, I don't like their music but a lot of people do. I think its all down to what you listen to, aspire to and what you set yourself as the benchmark that you are going to go for. When I was growing up, there were very little talented musicians in my area and its still the same. If I had set my benchmark as being as good or as fast or whatever as my peers then I wouldn't be as good as I am now. Its a sad fact and not a boast that I have never heard another bass player who is anywhere near as good as me in my area which is sad. There are very few musicians in general in my area which are any good. That is from all age groups, not just the youngsters. I have had to rely on a very small number of guitarists and drummers to spur me on and evolve. In fact, the best guitarist in my area is mentally ill, is on prozak, carries a dentist kit so he can give himself fillings and has a dreadlock called Keith. I've not seen him in years but we used to trade riffs each other all the time and spur each other on. Fantastic guitarist, mad as a box of frogs. I have no idea where I am going with this as I have a gargantuan hangover
5. i remember when this used to be all fields
6. When I changed to a Shuttle at the end of last year, my guitarist didn't like the sound at all after being used to my GK 700RB II which was a phenomenal beast of an amp. I just wanted something very light that was good quality and the tube preamp sold me on it in the end. Its taken me the best part of 3 months to get the sound that I have been looking for and the guitarist loves it as well. I can get as close to a tubey sound as is possible with a 1 tube preamp and absolutely love it. I'm still going to hold off for a couple of months before I post a proper review of it as I'm still getting used to what it can do and am still trying so see if I can get anything better from it but right now I absolutely love it and would have to say that probably the only amp that may be better than this will be the GK micro amp with the tube preamp but am not sure when/if that is due out but am happy for time being. May look a bit weird on top of all that trace Elliot though - people may mistake it for a DI box its that small.
7. It does look good. i think I may pick a quiet time gig-wise and get the work done
8. everyone poop on the singer's mic- I mean air poop, not stool Open up the back of the guitarist's guitar and put blocks of wood in to stop the whammy from working and wait until the next solo. Everyone play a song in a different key to the person that you're trying to annoy. hide a piece of smelly cheese in the back of the guitarist's amp.
9. Yip -took me a wee while to get the sound exactly as I wanted it but very, very happy with my one. Plus its rediculously small and light for the amount of power it puts out
10. You could try this website: http://www.12stringbass.net/ there was an 8 string version of the site but it used to be a bit temperamental. Hamer used to do a lot of 30" 12 strings but seem to have stopped - maybe try looking for their strings, or failing that, D'addario make strings for Hamer so may make what you are looking for.

Mandobird

I linked to one in the 'show us your mandolin' threads. Really cool
12.
I got my 1212L (new) in June 2008 as well. I guess mine uses the newer drivers though as this is what mine look like. There doesnt seem to be any markings anywhere on them though. Just after i got mine one of the speakers started making a rasping noise so i got a replacement one. This too was the same type. Im hoping i can fix this and put it in to a small 1x12 box, just for quiet use at work.
Looks like you have the Celestion drivers in your then. http://professional.celestion.com/bass/pdf/BN12-300S8.pdf I wonder how different your cab will sound to mine? Some of the specs are very different http://www.eminence.com/proaudio_speaker_d...mp;SUB_CAT_ID=3
13.
Did Warmoth do the gold finish for you?
Yes http://www.warmoth.com/Paint/Flake.aspx
14. I remember using their Spacer strings about 16 years ago. They were black coated and after a short time, all the coating would come off making them look dreadful. They also had the coloured silks
15. I'm surprised I hadn't put any pictures in before now. Here's my gold Warmoth '54 Single coil P bass. It has a mahogany body, wenge neck & ebony fretboard. Gold Schaller machineheads, Gotoh 201 gold bridge, gold frets, gold Schaller straplocks, SD quarter pounder, CTS 500k pots and paper in oil cap. And normally gold Optima strings, although the Rotosounds on it just noe are beginning to grow on me. Body is finished in the sparkliest of gold finishes. Like with any custom bass, I took a big risk since if it failed to deliver, it would be worth 3 pound peanut. I have to say that it is without a doubt, the best bass I have ever played ever. Although I didn't make the body or neck, I did put it all together and set it all up to my liking.
16. I've had it since June 2008. I think it is what you call a Mk II model. If I was to, say, build my own version of this - would a 3012 perform better in the same sized cab?
17. They certainly are. Doesn't really matter what it says on the back, as long as it is loud enough for me without farting, which this is.
18. Your right, it looks exactly like one of those. http://www.eminence.com/pdf/deltaliteII2512.pdf One thing I can't work out though is that my cab is quoted as being 800w - but these are 250w drivers.
19. I think you can use anything. I normally use the sponge that comes with new pickups in the packaging. You may not want to use a yellow sponge for obvious reasons. I suppose anything dark would do.
20. I finally got round to opening up the back of my 1212L to find out what drivers were concealed inside. At first glance there's hee haw except 8ohms written on each driver then I saw a Schroeder sticker but that's it. One thing I thought was that these are the first speakers I have seen with screw in terminals. I haven't seen Eminence or Celestions with this. Can anyone identify what the make and model of these drivers is. There's a shiny penny for the winner* *Penny may be substituted for a weekend for two in February.
21. Something I've been thinking about for a while now but I can't find any pictures to see what it will look like when done. I've still to finalise how I'm going to wire up the electronics but more importantly to me just now is how it will look. I'm incredibly shallow when it comes to basses. Definitely looks first. I wasn't sure where to put this as its not necessarily a pickup question, just a request to see if anyone has a picture of a single coil P bass with a musicman pickup as well. Anyway, here's the bass in question: I would've been really cool if I could've hid it by making it metallic gold but other than fablon, I can't think of anything to cover a pickup with that wouldn't affect its performance - but that's a pickup question and I'll save that for if/when I decide to go for it or not.
22. Beaten by a few minutes but definitely there. Lots of really interesting information and pics as well.
23. Don't joke- some Jack Danny had done that to the Tele bass that I sold to Beedster before I got it.
24. If you can't live without the shape of the Curbow then I would say change the gubbins. Otherwise. There may be something out there more suited to what you're after.
25. Don't have one but always fancied one of the Mandobirds Very folk 'n roll
