I had one of those fellows in 1994. Other than that I can;t help you but there;s enough Trace fans here that someone's bound to know.

Tried it and found it guilty I use the G far too much to be without it. I played 5s and 6s for about 12 years and only went back to a 4 about a year ago. I have to say that i don;t miss the B at all/ When i was younger I learned how to play DADG and CADG so I can use these if needed but they rarely are.

I used to be mad keen on Musicman but things change and I've tried almost every brand of bass ever made until I got to the one that I could call my own. I've never got on with regular precisions but the single coil ones to me are the bollocks. I had a modulus as well and I have to say that it felt dead. the strings were a ba' hair away from the fretboard but it didn;t do anything for me. Its always going to depend on what suits you. Fender, Musicman and Ric are the 3 main brands AFAIK with very passionate members on their own forums so they are the main 3 that people tend to go for so when you try one and hate it then you feel let down. It should've been a killer bass but ended up disappointing you. Personally, nothing can touch my Warmoth. Its my bass and gives me my sound with the playability and balance that I want. After getting it I did get myself another stingray (the one I said i didn;t like in the Stingray gear porn thread) but was very disappointed. The best one I ever owned was the Lava Pearl SR5 (in the same thread as above) and I hated having to sell it but I just don't do 5 string basses anymore. There's nothing that i need to or want to play that i can't do without detuning the E (sometimes down to C)

When I first began playing many moons ago I played everything with my left thumb only using the E string until I began listening to Guns 'n Roses (my first influence) when I was about 14 and began using my fingers. I haven't used my thumb like that since. there's nothing wrong with it if it allows you to play in a certain way.

I've had a few over the years but didn;t take pics of all of them. here's pics of some of the ones I did. This one i got for a stupid price on Ebay and i bought it purely to sell again since its a lefty and I ain't My 20th Anniversary This one played like crap My only fretless one A teal fellow I've owned many basses but this one, along with my Rick 4003BB is the most beautiful My 30th anniversary - sadly all the other good pics of this on Imageshack are corrupted and I don;t have any others on my PC The main one missing is my very first one - a black with black plate and rosewood fretboard SR5 bought in 1999 for the sum of £999 when I was going through my Flea phase

Plus unless someone has kept their bass in a very controlled enviroment - the original nitro finish has probably turned blue by now. They had a tendency to turn funny colours over time. I'm sure the manchesterguitartech guy offers regular and aged versions. Even if you could find an original Fender colour chart from the 60s - chances are that the colour in the brochure will be well off the mark due to limitations in the printing process. I think the best way forward is to find the one that you like best

That many you had to post it twice They just look like Gotoh GB7 tuners. Even non Gotoh ones are referred to as GB7 size and there's loads places sell them

I'm very hard on my strings and am convinced that when I take them off, they have already been stretched to their limits. If I were to put them back on, they would break very quickly. Could be true, could be rubbish. I do keep a couple of sets of old strings in my bag in case of breakages.

I've not had enough gigs yet with the Shuttle since I got it at the end of last year to be fully in awe of its small stature. I've actually managed to get my entire setup so small and light that i can carry it in one go from the car. A far cry from that huge TE stack a few years back.

sacriledge - they clipped the video before the fast running bit at the end. I remember vividily having a copy of Bassist in front of me with the transcription of this song and playing along with my DOD Octoplus and defretted Trace Elliot T-Bass 5 string. Quality

A huge 'no' for me. Too many notes, too much w***ery, a horrible sound and Michael Manring are reasons I dislike his music. I did sit down with an open mind and try to listen but it does absolutely nothing for me. I did give it a good chance as well, not just playing the start of songs but trying to listen to find something I liked. Nothing. Hee Haw. I enjoy listening to other players who play fretless such as Jack Bruce & Pino etc and their music seems more listenable. A very definite point of view and one for which our US counterparts tried to shoot me to shreds over, especially as they seem to think that everyone in the world was influenced by him. They can't see past the fact that some people may not like his playing.

I know someone who is selling a small Behringer mixer :brow:

I think those Fiesta red MIM 50s Precisions were about that price

I can highy recommend the Lollar as well. I'll be getting another one for my gold bass as soon as I have money again.

I learned parallel universe with me fingers then realised that he used a pick - If you've ever watched 'Off the Map' even flea looks like he's struggling near the end. Easiest way to save your fingers to begin with is to play the verses as is and play single notes for the choruses. Heard Biffy when they supported the Chilis at Hampden a couple of years ago - not my cup of tea overall but Saturday Superhouse is a cracker

Where can I get routing done in Pompey/Hants?
Delberthot replied to Dubs's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm contemplating having a musicman pickup installed in my bass. I emailed Jimmy Moon in Glasgow. The quote was just to route for the pickup and the channel from the pickup to the control cavity as I would be doing all the wiring myself. As he didn;t have a template for this he quoted me £150 so the £170 quoted earlier wasn;'t that far off the mark. I know I will be getting an excellent job done plus the bass is already painted so extra care is needed not to chip the paint round about the route. Jimmy makes guitars for a few famous names and sells them all over the world so his work is well known for being excellent. -
If you play in a good band with talented members and have been playing for a long time then its never the same when someone deps for one of the members. I find myself looking over my shoulder making sure that the depee knows what is going on which detracts from my own enjoyment. My rock covers band minus the drummer have formed a wedding/functions band with a new drummer and keyboard player. I have made it clear since we first began talking about it that my long running wedding band takes priority and they are happy with that. When an instance occurs that i cannot make a gig then they are happy to get someone else to fill in for me. If it became a regular occurrence, I have let them know that they can repace me permanently. In the 12 years we have been together I have missed 2 gigs - for one of them, I was replaced by Allan Longmuir from the Bay City Rollers! I've played a couple of gigs sitting down after spraining my ankle and even played one with a surgical collar on after sustaining a whiplash in a car crash the same day. I think that if people are against getting deps then it is possibly due to their insecurity and what if the other person is better than they are? This can go 2 ways- for a band that gets on, has a good laugh and performs well together then reassuring the missing band member would help. If the band member being replaced is a sh*t, unreliable, whatever then let them sweat if out. You never know, it may give them the kick up the arse that they need to get on with it.

Is that a compensated nut and zero fret on the Ray models?

I oould be up for this as long as I have someone to share the drive/petrol as I get bored driving the long way down there. I've just endured the drive from Southport to Falkirk this weekend. Pretty easy/dull stuff. I could bring the Gold Warmoth, Genz Shuttle & Schroeder 1212L if anyone's interested.

I used to use coloured stings cos they looked cool and for no other reason. I had black DRs on my Thunderbird, red ones on my Geddy and 6 different colours on my Yamaha TRB6. My overall impression of them is that they are nothing more than cool looking. They are very draggy when playing with them and slow you down totally. Rough as hell and last no longer than other strings

Noooooooooooooooooo I'm wearing slippers right now. However I am still rock and roll in that i am absolutely out of my tits on red wine.

its always nice to be nice. I don't particularly like F basses either so its good to be able to go with a reputable alternative that floats your boat.
-
nowhere near edinburgh but I can set up your bass. I gave up on music shops years ago and set about setting up my own basses. I may be going through to Edinburgh today but if not could setup your bass for the cost of my train fare and lots of coffee.
Like I said, I'm happy for you that you're building something to your specs as that's always nice to see, and have I at any point said "stop, it's a bad idea"? I don't think so, but you very much came across as trying to sell us something in the OP. I still think you've not given all the variables enough thought though. I do hope it comes together for you though. As to the rest of you who are trying to comdemn those members who are challenging the idea, I'd much rather be told my idea is flawed and has a good chance of turning out to not be what I'm expecting, along with the area's I need to rethink, than to be slapped on the back by a load of yes men who really wouldn't give two shits if it ended up being useless and costing me a fair bit of dosh and time. Shame on you methinks.
The problem is not whether or not it will work it is all to do with the tone of what you are saying. It has nothing to do with challenging the idea. Groups of people who challenge ideas are generally called teams and can come up with great ideas if the original one has flaws. You really need to think about how you word things-if I were to hear this spoken face to face in the tone that it looks like, I would be telling you where to get off cos you sound just like you're looking for an arguement. I am well known for not being a 'yes' man
