1. you've o idea how long it took me to find the correct size allen screws for the Shuttle - 10/32" if I remember corectly
2. I've had a look at the V-type combo but didn't know if it'd be loud enough. The main reason for a combo is that I like simple - I have my cab on my cab stand at an angle and would like to have everything sitting together. With the GK & Schroeder, I had the cab on the stand and the amp in its rack on a keyboard stand and it took up a lot of room - space is another consideration as well for getting a combo.
3. Unhappy at my sound and looking for a change I have sold both my Shuttle and my Schroeder 1212L. When I first began playing seriously I had a Trace 7210H and a 1048H cab and it put out plenty of power and I quite liked the sound. A couple of years later and I enter my 'Flea' period where I sell the lot and buy myself a GK 800RB, using a Trace 1153 with a Celestion 300w driver replacing the original - I also bought myself an all black Stingray 5 string as well. This setup was smaller as I was now just using it as a backline since we now had a PA. After a particularly loud gig and being unable to hear myself, I sell everything and start from scratch with firstly: Ashdown EVO500 something or other head and 2 ABM115 cabs - the most indistinct muddy sound I've ever heard - possibly only fish at the bottom of the sea could hear the notes produced. Hartke HA5500 & one of the Ashdown cabs - rubbish. GK700RBII & Schroeder1212L - great sound, bags of power Shuttle & Schroeder 1212L - reasonable sound, bags of power. My predicament is this: I want to buy myself preferrably a combo, weight is unimportant, that i can use primarily as a monitor using my cab stand. I have this pointing up directly at me as I don't plan on doing pub gigs without a PA anymore. I'm not sure if I want something that I can add an extra cab to if such a scenario comes up and I don't want to have to spend a fortune for something that I 'might' add onto for the occasional gig. I have absolutely no idea how much power I need - I like to be able to hear myself and generally point my cab away from the rest of the band so that i can have it at a volume I like without upsetting them. My guitarist is very quiet, the vocal monitors are nowhere near me but I do have a loud drummer. My original trace was 200w as far as I remember and I've managed to get up to 600w over the last 15 years. The extra power was to cope with being in a band with no PA support so I have no idea how much power I actually need. I don't want to buy more than I need either. My preferred makes are Trace & Gallien as I have had good results in the past, most other makes are an unknown entity to me. I don't want anything by Markbass or Genz. I don't mind buying new or second hand, obviously I'll get more second hand. I could spend up to £1200 if I needed to but if a 10 year old Trace combo for £200 will suffice then I'd rather get that and bank the rest. I want something with a bit of meat as that was what I found lacking in the Schroeder. BTW, what is the life expectancy of a transistor amp before they start getting unreliable? So far on my list have been: GK1001 Neo 2x12" GK2001 GK Neo1x12" GK NEo 2x12" GK1001RB II GK700RB II Trace 715 Trace 7215 - old model from the late 90s that I've spotted - 300w Trace 1528 2x15" cab Trace 1048H Trace 1153 Trace 2103H Trace 1518 Various new Trace combos I'm going demented as I have ebsolutely no idea what I need.
4. Final bump - if it doesn't sell by the time my Ebay auction finishes tomorrow night then I'm keeping it I don't think I can end an item with less than 24 hours to go so if anyone wants to register their interest in the event of it not selling on Ebay then let me know
5. I managed to blow the driver in an ABM115 without driving it very hard. Its the one and only speaker I've blown in 22 yeas of playing. After that i sold it all as I was a bit wary of something else going wrong - plus I absolutely hated the wooly, indistinct sound and the excessive controls on the shiny chrome head.
6. As a previous owner of an ABM EVO blah blah head and 2 ABM115 cabs I have to say that i thought that they were the wooliest, indistinct sounding cabs I had ever heard in my life. I've no experience of the Aguilars but I replaced both cabs with 1 Schroeder 1212L. It may not go as deep but at least i can hear the notes clearly
7. As far as I know - I opened it up a few months back and posted the pictures on here and the general concensus was that they were Eminence drivers
8. I'm selling my 800w 4ohm Schroeder 1212L
9. There's about 8 knobs too many for me, Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh Matron
10. I tried Markbass a few years ago not long after they first came out and I wasn't impressed - I like a particular sound and few amps can give me 'my' sound
11. While I wait for Baron Von Slowass to return the payment to my bank account for the GK combo that I bought last week and turned out to be knackered, I am unsure what I am going to buy myself to replace my Shuttle so if you are interested in this then let me know, otherwise I may just buy myself a new head and keep the cab when i get things sorted out
12. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Rig-Ashdown-EVO...id=p3286.c0.m14 This is bonkers - wonder how it sounds?
13. Just spotted this on the Fender website - If they sound half as good as they look then they should be the mutts The pic of the combo with the single coil P next to it was especially nice
14. I bought a dozen paper-in-oil caps from a guy in Sweden for about £6 - Later sold 10 of them for £4 each I put PIO caps in any passive bass that I get - may be mojo, may be whatever but I do prefer them. I was using the big orange fellows before that take up half the control cavity
15. Originally entered a talent show and mimed with an acoustic that I borrowed from a friend when I was 11. Bought it off him form a fiver. I was really into Queen at the time and decided that I wanted a bass for Christmas so that I could play like John Deacon.
16. I got quoted £250 to route a musicman pickup in my gold bass from Jimmy Moon in Glasgow
17.
Yeah it ain't that pretty but it might be quite a fun novelty one if it's any good. I don't know why anyone would choose something like bloody gold over natural finish.
Cos I'm a bloody show-off. that's why
18. Years of playing Stingrays and anchoring my thumb on the pickup mean that now that I play a bass with no pickup there I find myself going between lightly holding my thumb against the body and letting everything hover. I find that my pinky curls up and the finger next to it kind of mimics my middle finger without actually touching a string I have a picture somewhere in mid gig where it looks like I'm playing an octave and it looks like I'm giving someone the 'bird'. I'm not, its just where that fingure goes
19. Now on Ebay put will remove it if anyone here is still interested
20. Sting's '57 single coil P bass - no, not one like his - his one! Gallien Krueger 2001 RB Mesa 2x15" & 2x10" So basically Sting's bass anf Flea's backline
21. I may be intested in trades if you're interested but skint. I am also skint at present but would be interested in straight swaps or a trade with cash my way. Things I may be interested in are precisions, Bass Collections and so on but could be tempted by other things
22. Whereabouts are you located? I've been thinking about getting another one of these - I had an SB305 for years. I would need to sell my Schroeder cab first unless you're looking for a trade
23. Really looking forward to getting this It'll be my third GK amp but first GK combo and first GK cab - I'll finally get to try out the biamp facility.
24. Fantastic - now I can put my Schroeder cab back up for sale
