Don't Stingrays use Alnico poles and Sterlings use Ceramic? and the switching thing as well anyone with a stingray 5 string more than a few years old actually has a Sterling as it has ceramic poles and the same electronics.

I remember seeing a picture in Bassist a few years back with a picture of Steve Swallow using a Parker Fly bass tuned E-C Ii tried it once and couldn't find a use for it. It all depends on what kind of stuff you play and the sound you are trying to achieve. The reason I stopped playing 6ers was because I hardly used the C for anything.

I hate dirt, or mojo as people who cannot be bothered to keep their gear clean call it. I also cannot handle relicing which is a word that always looks wrong. If you've been unfortunate to ding your bass and can't/won't get it repaired then fair enough but doing it intentionally gives me the dry boak. the other annoyance particular to Egay is people trying to sell a bass with a string or a knob missing - anyone looking at it is going to thing that its fecked but by spending a couple of pounds it can transform the way an instrument looks from sh!te to alright

Would have to be either EB-0 or a green Dean Zone bass. I quite fancy getting one of the Dean basses and firing a quarter pounder into it since I'm buying it purely for the looks

What are the narrowest neck 5 and 6 string basses?
Delberthot replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Yamaha B5000. Weren't they just 4 string necks with 5 strings on them? You could also mod an existing bass to 5 strings. i did it with a Rick copy by buying a Kahler fully adjustable bridge, GB7 tuners and making sure that the pickup was a soapbar. Alternatively if you could find a 5 string Rick, I think that they used 4 string necks for their 5 stringers -
I like the original Fender one although I thought it compressed the sound somewhat. The SD quarter pounder is a very powerful pickup and I used one in my first Warmoth but had to go through the active input cos it was so powerful. If you want the ultimate tone IMO then you need to look at the Jason Lollar one - its an absolute beast and easily the best sounding one I've tried for the single coil P Bass. This was the same guy that was building replacement Rick horseshoe pickups until Rick put their foot down despite not selling them on their own for years http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant....e=pbass-pickups Alternatively, if you want to sound like Sting, apparently his '57 single coil is fitted with an SD humbucker: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/cust...ingle_coilstac/

when you press the BIn button there's a warning telling you that by confirming you are enetering into a contract regardless of whether payment has been made, received or refunded - its as soon as the BIN button has been pressed and confirmed

possibly because they are easier to make than having to mark out where the frets go, cut the slots, fit the frets, file down the edges etc?
LOL, you're about the fifth person to say just that! I'm happy to consider trades also? Chris
I have a kidney in reasonable condition Alas I only have my Epiphone Les Paul bass and Boss ODB3 to offer in trade at present. I pretty much cleared everything else out a couple of months ago

Party at mine then? I have to admit that i didn't go to the Moffat one as I thought it was a bit far away personally but I'd be up for a more central one. I wouldn't have time to organise it but would definitely attend if I could. Anywhere central where we could get together, have a laugh, a beer and get a train or a bus would be perfect.

Got any pumps? don't the pickups come in a box with foam to protect them? I vaguelly remember using that in the past

if you go onto one of the 12 string sites, there was a guy who turned an OLP 5 string into an 12 string bass and a 4 into an 8 so its certainly possible its on here- if you click on the basses link on the left hand side and then the conversions link near the bottom right of the page it take you to the 12 string version http://www.12stringbass.net/

Would Ric5 happen to be Jeff Rath? If so, he gave me the inspiration to mod a tired Rick bolt on copy into a 5 string with GB7 tuners and an EMG DC35 pickup His stuff is legendary

I'll probably just go ahead and take the neck off to adjust it. I could always get someone who knows what they're doing to fit a set of metal inserts if the neck stability became an issue

My unintentional Fender Precision Phil Lynott Tribute
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Gear Gallery
Sorry man, just noticed your reply I ordered them direct from fretfx in the US. Took longer than expected due to the holiday period. They were around £50 compared to closer to 10 times that for the Sims jobbies. Obviously the Sims ones are completely hidden except from the LEDs themselves but if I grow tired of them further down the line, I can remove them. I reckon the only time you'd be near the wire at the headstock would be to change strings and I don't do that nearly as often as I used to. You can't hold the bass by gripping the neck as they advise you not to so I hold it up near the headstock where a Hercules grab stand would to avoid the gubbins. Overall I'm very happy and will be giving them their first local outing next Friday in Falkirk if you want to come and have a look at them. -
I don't know if I can get to it this way - there's no channel cut in the body like my Warmoth had to get in with a screwdriver. i can only see the top of the truss rod adjuster
-
I've searched as much as i can but can't find an answer on here. I'm going to fire a new set of strings on my precision at the weekend and am also going to give the truss rod a tweak as it does play well but could play even better if the neck was straighter. The issue I have is that the adjustment is at the body end and its the big screw type jobbie. Now it looks like the only way i can get to it is by removing the neck but I don't want to keep doing that to adjust and I don''t have the necessary tools/skill to fit metal inserts into the neck Is there any way to adjust one of these type of truss rods without removing the neck?

Does the knee and hip replacement come included in the price if you play like he does for too long?

I remember when this was all fields as far as the eye could see i used to be with it then they changed what 'it' was etc I've always been the youngest in all of my bands and still am at 34. One of my first gigs was a proper big band and the trumpeter was in his 80s when i was 17 - probably the youngest in that band by 40 odd years I don't care if they have to wheel me out to play, i want to keep going as long as i am able for years to come.
