Ibanez Blazer Bass - April 1981 model with P pickup FS/FT
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Basses For Sale
Whats the weight on this baby?
Going by what I've read online it should be around 9lbs. I don't have any scales so can't confirm this. You'd have thought with the amount of basses I'd sold over the past few years I'd have something to weigh them. Its lighter than my Epiphone Thunderbird -
My first bass, back in 1984. I hated the wood grain, so I sprayed it, then sold it. I think the words "cock" and "end" were put together to describe me getting rid of it. Great basses.
I can't get over how good it looks considering its age and how many gigs its done. To say that the pickup packs a punch would be an understatement - I have to run it with the active button pressed on my amp. it sounds the business but unfortunately just not the sound that I prefer -
Nice! How's the current set-up? I play quite hard so can't have it too low. I'd describe it as medium low Does it do that "Iron Maiden P-bass sound" ? Personally I think it does do you have an estimate of the weight by any chance? I can't tell you exactly but there was a guy on Talkbs who said that his was 9lbs regards, D.
-
Agree, this is collectors only piece, not great to play, and the 5'ers among you wouldnt be tempted after a play, it wouldnt compare to a cheapo new 5 string bass.
I don't care, I've always wanted one an if I had the money I'd buy it just to find out exactly how sh*t it was Years ago I had a huge list of basses I wanted to play and now its down to a couple having been fortunate to have owned and played nearly all of them. This is still one of the ones I would still love to own.

Shine 8 Eight String Bass For Sale/Trade

After wanting one of these for so long, I realise that the Thunderbird is the only bass for me so I'm now selling this on. The body is made from ash and has a maple neck and fretboard. The bridge and knobs are made of brass and it has the trademark heart shaped tuners. There is natural wear to both bridge and knobs but nothing that you wouldn't expect with a 30 year old bass. The body has some dings and dents corresponding to its age and being a great gigging bass but there's nothing major and its not very noticable due to the colour. I searched for years to find a bass with a proper Precision bass sound and eventually found this bass. I've owned Fenders and Squiers from Affinities to MIA ones but this is by far the most authentic sounding Precision I've ever had the privelige to play and own. If you want to hear it for yourself just find some Supergrass as Mick Quinn from the band apparently bought one of these as his first bass and used it on all the albums simply because it was so good and he didn't need to look for anything else. I currently have this on Ebay here but would obviously not be looking for that amount on here. Looking for £300 plus delivery which will probably be around the £10-15 mark. I don't have a gig bag or case with it but it will be well packed. My Shine 8 string is also for sale and you can get to it by clicking the link in my sig

It if hadn't been for Queen and John Deacon I would not be playing the bass. I thought I'd seen everything about Queen but there was some new stuff added in here as well like the fact that Death on Two Legs was written about the production company that were screwing them out of money. To me, they are still one of the best bands ever and love watching and listening to them. I can happily listen to every album in their entirety right up to and including Live Killers. I can see both sides of Queen continuing without Freddie and John: on one hand you've lost one of the most instantly recognisable and flambouyant front men in rock music so the bass player sees this and thinks that there's no point in continuing without him; on the other hand you still have two guys who are passionate about the music and wanting to keep going so it made perfect sense to go back out on the road again. The one thing that they did that was rally smart was by getting someone like Paul Rodgers. If they had got in an unknown singer then the media would continually have compared him to Freddie but getting Paul on board, who is a legend in his own right meant that they could just go out and play.
pretty much anything with james jamerson on bass should fit the bill.
You mean Carol Kaye? Have a look at alll the favourite bass player threads and choose from that. The usual suspects would be Jack Bruce, Sting, Flea, John Deacon, Chris Squire, Bernard Edwards, John Paul Jones etc.

Can I be the first to say that I had my 10000 hours in by the time I was 19. Does it prove anything? No. Did I annoy the hell out of my neighbours? Hell yeah It wasn't a gradual getting better either - I found that my playing improved a great deal when I joined my first proper band at 17 which was a big band but the biggest improvement was definitely joining a wedding/function band. A lot of people knock them but there's no better laxative than being put on the spot to play something you've never played before with no dots or remember so many songs in such a short space of time than doing that kind of work.

I was missing my 12 string and since I thought it would be a bit overkill for the wedding band I decided to get an 8 string but I can't get it to fit in anywhere so its now up for sale. Its a shame cos after posting in the repairs and technical issues section saying that i couldn't get it set up to my liking, I managed to get it set up to my liking and have been practicing all week to make sure I could pull it off. I'm literally just back from tonight's gig with it so haven't had the chance to take any pictures of it on its own but here are some pictures I recently put in the gear porn forum: The truss rod cover is missing from the pictures as I had just adjusted the truss rod but it will be fitted prior to delivery/meet up or whatever. The bass is a maple through neck with walnut strips and a rosewood fretboard with 24 frets. Considering its maple, its not that heavy and it balances very well on a decent strap. It has satin nickel hardware and a 2 band EQ. I changed the battery when I bought it to a decent Duracell one as it had one of those cheap and nasty ones fitted. The bass was made in Shine's Korea factory as its one of their top of the range models and everyone knows Korea is the new Japan innit Its in minty condition and so it should be cos its new. I can't find any marks on it anywhere. It will come with a gig bag and I have a set of Rickenbacker strings I can include for an additional £35 (they're £49 from Strings Direct) otherwise I'll sell them separately. As far as price goes, they're currently £385 delivered not including gig bag so I'd be looking for something of equal value new when considering trades. I haven't a clue what I'd be looking for in a trade so try me and you might have what I didn't know I wanted For a straight sale I'd be looking for around the £[s]300[/s] 275 mark ONO including postage to mainland UK

I read recently that Phil Chen has used the Same Fender Precision since 1966 and has never even changed his strings Me, I just like to try out different stuff and at the end of the day, whether I'm playing a £3000 Modulus Flea or a £200 Epiphone Thunderbird, as long as I'm getting a good sound out front and it plays well - who cares? Note: I'm not trying to compare myself to Phil Chen BTW

+1 for the Boss OC-2. It doesn't just add an octave below, its quite a dirty sounding pedal and adds grit to your tone. That may be why boss added a distortion setting to the OC-3 as the digital octave couldn't replicate it.

When I moved the strap button on the Thunderbird, my strap wouldn't fit onto the strap button which was now at the end of the heel so I found an Ebay seller selling one of those extension thingies and just attached it using a nut, a bolt and 2 big washers.

Most people will recommend what they use so have a look at what's in my sig- you could but both head and cab brand new with the money you've got. I too like a gritty sound but just use the boost on the amp for that. I use my setup for every gig I do. It'll comfortably do a pub gig up to around 100 people with no PA support and anything bigger than that I'd be DI'd into the PA anyway. The cab weighs 21kg so its pretty light
