  1. I'm amazed and disappointed that no one from Ashdown has added a public apology (or an explanation of how their customer service process allowed this to develop) to this thread. They are present on BC aren't they?
  2. Bareknuckle may be able to rewind your original to your taste.
  3. That's an excellent small rig and if you already have it lined up for a good price then go for it. You can always add another NY121P cab later if you desire and have a rig capable of almost any reasonable gig. I only experienced a problem with my F500 when I used it to drive a pair of less efficient cabs very loud.
  4. The NY121P is a small single twelve cab and won't do large gigs. A pair is a different matter but one on its own will struggle in my experience. Unless size is your most important factor I would recommend the larger single twelve cabs from Markbass as they will go deeper and sound bigger. As for Markbass heads once again unless you have to have the smallest I wouldn't choose either F1 or F500 which employed Markbass first generation 500 watt class D power amp. When I owned one it was no where near as powerful as my class AB LM3. The later 500 watt class D amp is in the LM3 and Big Bang heads and probably all the other 500 watt Markbass heads and is better than the first generation in my experience.
  5. Probably help your sale if you added some photos. Links that have to be copied and pasted aren't as useful. Good luck with your sale.
  6. I had a Laney Pro Bass head back in the 90's with graphic and other whistles, but it was pretty unremarkable and so was I probably. I was also unimpressed by my trace elliot smx 350 rig which shows how little I knew. The first rig I was blown away by at another band's gig was a Warwick Thumb into a Hartke AH3500 with 410XL and 115XL. I sold my SMX rig and about 10 basses to get that set up and gigged it happliy for many years until this forum introduced me to GAS. I should give my lawyer a call!
  7. My work here is done. 🎸🔊🙂
  8. Fancy a holiday trip to sunny Hertford?
  9. Doh! I get so used to sellers not adding a location that I got confused. I realise this is an opportunity for a bump but comms of that type might be better via personal message.
  10. The original post does say Newport Pagnell.
  11. I've never owned a combo that has a tilt back capability but I have read they are really good for hearing what you are playing on stage. Although carpet covering requires a little more maintenance (brush/vacuum) I prefer it in the main to cheap Tolex (far east production?) that marks and tears way too easily
  12. Also, if you find a distortion/overdrive pedal that you like, you can keep it and use it with future amplifiers. The closest I have found to a take it everywhere is the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal.
  13. Also worth considering how old your Markbass combo is. If it has the combo head 2 and is made in Italy then you could probably sell in a few months time for (or very close to) what you paid for it. A new combo will lose several hundred dollars as soon as you take it out of the store.
  14. You can bump threads without adding to the already very long history of bumps. After 36hrs just hit the 'Bump this topic' button. You might also delete old bumps just to make the thread an easier read.
  15. Best slap sound I used to have was through a Hartke AH3500 with compressor on through a 410XL cab. No tweeter necessary, in fact it could well be too harsh with one.
  16. No worries. You shouldn't need to go searching.
  17. What year was it made please?
  18. Don't get me started on my current bugbear of for sale adds without the obviously essential location info. Profile says Leicester.
  19. I wonder how much power a good single 12" speaker can convert to audio output? The rest is dissipated as heat by the voice coil. Higher thermal power ratings possibly indicate that you can run them at their maximum volume for longer without overheating. It follows that the sensitivity and other parameters such as xmax are more important than thermal rating if you want loudness/headroom.
  20. I was a Mark King fan back in the 80s and that great slap tone was all about smiley Trace Elliot EQ shapes with loads of power and cone area to compensate for the lack of mids. Slapping with mids flat sounds really hard and clanky, so for those that want to have slap sections you'll most likely want to kick in mid cut, volume boost and compression so as not to kill the front row of drinkers. It's still a wonderful thing when used correctly (sparingly) on those classic RATM, RHCP, Brit Funk, etc., etc., favourites.
  21. I think I'm the one that's irked cuzzie! The small markbass cabs are quite popular due to all the above reasons, so waiting for one to appear might take a while. Better to add a wanted thread in the marketplace; you could get something sorted sooner.
  22. We're heading off topic here, but good slap tone doesn't necessarily need a tweeter (think back to early Brothers Johnson, Level 42 etc.). Of course almost everything discussed on here is (hopefully) based on opinions that have been formed by personal experience. That is completely rational. I totally get that others have tried gear and not liked it. I never 'got' Markbass when I tried it in store but when I used a LM2 through a rubbish Laney 410 cab at an open mike night it was a real ear opener. Having been precisely where the OP is, my rational advice to someone who is happy with their combo but just wants the ability to go louder is to add another cab of the same type.
