  1. This thread prompted me to look at the Unity range. It seems a little strange to me that Blackstar list a 250 watt 1x15 powered extension cab to go with the Unity 250 watt 1x15 combo but don't offer a 500 watt 2x10 powered extension cab to go with the Unity 500 watt 2x10 combo. Also, I'm not totally convinced that the 2x10 speakers can handle the full 500 watts either. I'd prefer the combo to have an amplifier that output 250 watts to its internal speakers which then allowed a 2x10 passive extension cab. 500 watts into a 4x10 configuration feels about right to me.
  2. The NY121P is the perfect match for the CMD121P.
  3. This really was my dream bass when I was using a crappy Shergold Marathon (sorry to those that like them) and knew that a MM Stingray or Aria SB1000 were out of my price range. I'd love to own this but just have way too many basses already. Good luck with your sale; I imagine another nostalgic Basschatter will be along soon.
  4. No, they are not as fat as the current pickups which makes them look wider. The Ignition use the 65/66 format reintroduced on some 80s German models (below). If you visit the Hofner site you'll see the large number of different pup designs used over the years.
  5. I opened this thread to see what a 4993S bass looks like. Lol.
  6. Doesn't it say "the general ticket sale begins at 10am on Thursday 10 November" ?
  7. Phew! Thank goodness it's 140 miles from Hertford. Hang on a mo... I'm staying in Bristol next week!
  8. Surely this won't hang around long at this price? This is the best of the 4 string Thumbs IMO. The MEC preamp and pups really growl.
  9. My bad! Comment deleted. Somehow I read it as a 212?
  10. Found some stuff I picked up in my youth. Can't see a date on the brochure anywhere unfortunately. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/445206-vintage-trace-elliot-brochures/?do=findComment&comment=4713528
  11. Found this:- Mania Bass Guitars are Manufactured by Eikosha Music, Japan they have Factories in China/Malaysia and Vietnam where they make the Mania bass Guitars with strict Quality controls as laid down by the Japan Facility.
  12. I feel the same. Heavyweight, bulky neck with too many tonal options for me; although I do still regret selling my Custom for £500 in the middle 90's.
  13. Great video. Interesting that there's no Wal?
  14. IMO the cabs are the issue. I've seen a few PJB users add more and larger PJB cabs chasing an output level that they're not really designed to achieve. PJB seem best at almost hifi quality bass at moderate to low volumes.
  15. Nope, sorry. All LM2 were class AB. LM3 were introduced as Class AB in 2009 then went to class D around 2012.
  16. Totally agree, but don't let your LM2 hear you calling it class D!
  17. I guess one benefit of the amp plus cab route is that if either component fails you can use backups whilst it's out for repair, if you have them of course. I went through the CMD121H plus traveller 121H cab to my LM3 with two traveller 121H which was better, to a CMD121P with traveller 121H but ended up with my LM3 and two NY121P cabs. The LM3 and two NY121P cabs is not massively bigger than the CMD121H combo but is significantly more capable.
  18. Understood. I've been through loads of compressors too and the Markbass Compressore is an always on pedal for me now. With everything at noon the 12ax7 adds lovely valve harmonic content to my SS preamp Markbass heads without softening their tone or even sounding like it's compressing. I've ogled the 1000 watt Markbass heads over the years but know I'd never get close to needing their immense power on the small to medium sized gigs I get. I dread to think how loud they can go before they limit based on my 800 watt (635 watt RMS at 4 ohms) Markbass Momark amp!
  19. The 1000 watt Markbass heads are incredibly powerful and the limiter won't kick in before you approach its maximum output even with the limiter control at Max. Sounds like a compressor would give the squish you desire and the Markbass Compressore is a brilliant one.
  20. Yes, I think that's a response to any criticism that the limiter cuts in rather abruptly. The control probably allows users to adjust the limiter from "off" to the non-adjustable amp's "full on" setting.
  21. I'm not convinced this is a "new" limiter at all. Markbass has been stating its amps have a new bi-band limiter ever since it was introduced when the LM3 replaced the LM2 in 2009.
