I sold my black Junior Jet, and without a doubt was the most playable and best sounding bass I have owned. It is also the one I have regretted selling most …. 😒 I am actually trying to scrape the money up at the moment to buy another !

I play the songs first then tune my bass to compensate for all the wrong notes.... 🤪

Midi controller keyboard recommendations please
Bleat replied to Bigwan's topic in Other Instruments
Roland A500 or 800 Pro... currently what I use and by far the best feeling midi keyboard out of a boatload I have owned.Overall it feels very well built... it has, among other stuff, 8 smallish but responsive pads. -
Cheers Skol ! It only took as long to do as what I would usually take to do a piece of music for the monthly contests to be honest,. It's not like I have worked on it for 2 years solid! 🤪 I'm not a native, but have lived here for about 16 years now... In the vicinity of H*rg*st R*dge. Can't be giving my location away 😉

Being a big fan of the Classic 80's Tangerine Dream sound, I thought I would enter this one . It probably won't be everyone's cup of Tetley, but it's about as recent as my covers get.... Choronzon Cheers, James. Just realised it has to have been done this year?

Anyone considering good new studio monitors ?... these ESI UniK 08+ monsters will blow anything else out the water at this price IMO ( I wish I had paid £169 for mine).. cheaper than the 5" also. https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/ESI-uniK-08and-Active-Studio-Monitor/1KCV

Roland A-800 Pro .. I use it for all music composition, playing my software instruments in Cubase 8. Works well, feels great. I have tried a fair few midi controllers, but this in my opinion has nicest quality "synth action" keybed of the lot , and overall looks very sleek and understated. It has the usual extras eg transport controls, sliders ,knobs, pads etc... most of which I do not use. I am very "old school" and still do everything with a mouse. Far too many controllers these days are just too "bling" and full of flashing lights and other "cool" features .. sadly I don't have a hipster beard so would not look right using one of those anyway. I also still have my little Alesis Q49 over there in the corner > . It's cheap and cheerful and has been like a comfy pair of musical slippers for me. I will not part with it as most of my (good?) ideas have been created using it.

Before all the trees grew and formed woodlands for as far as the eye could see, before they became nothing but fields many years later... I was 23. 🤨

Most the bands I listened to growing up played …. synthesisers... what is this "Fender Precision" you speak of? 🤪

Amazing use of black hair dye , just a shame he forgot to do his beard. 🤔

For clarity and fantastic low end reproduction I highly recommend Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones.

String Cleaners/boiling/coated Strings and General tone
Bleat replied to thundachopz's topic in General Discussion
Ambient I'll recommend to proceed with *extreme* caution regards WD40 , wear gloves if you try it, and don't blame me if your hands fall off after using it. Though *I* have not encountered any problems, this may or may not be the case with any one else so... if in doubt just buy proper string cleaner or new strings and be done with it! And don't get it near rusty nuts... or drink it. I think that's all the Health and Safety stuff covered then. 👍- 46 replies

String Cleaners/boiling/coated Strings and General tone
Bleat replied to thundachopz's topic in General Discussion
Hi dmccombe , It's certainly not a long term fix, I can get perhaps a week or 2 more out of old strings while I'm saving up for new sets. I have done this for many years with no adverse effects to guitar or hands, just don't go over the top and maybe best to completely remove strings when you do it. I am sure the more discerning player would never lower themselves to using such a method... to me it's all Rock 'n' Roll , so I couldn't care less. 😜- 46 replies

WD-40 > Rag > loosen strings > rub up and down strings a few times > retune strings > zing! 🤩- 46 replies

Currently using D'Addario Pro Steels. My bass is allergic to any other brand .....It gets a fever...and the only prescription........is more NYXL. 🎸

A really rather good compressor pedal , smaller version of the Moen Uni Comp which gets good reviews on the ovnilabs website. This has an EQ defeat switch, and it has a nice clicky true bypass footswitch. Added bonus here is that the green power light will flicker or glow red when the compressor takes effect. Yours posted 1st class (to UK Mainland Only) for £25.00 innit. Paypal gift / friends payment or whatever they call it now or bank transfer , either is fine by me. Cheers, James.

fleabag , If you mean those instruments with big long metal dildo looking things stuck to each side … then yes, I dislike them too 🤪 -

Well ...I had a listen over some Audio Technica ATH M50X ' phones and.... yep it sounded like shite to be fair... very generic sounding in fact, and this "let's play some harmonics and finger pick a few chords"....really gets on my m'oobs to be honest... "baby"? " parents"! ? it's a bit o' wood pal! As much as I can truly appreciate the *insane* amount of skill it must take to make something like this, I feel these sort of basses are nothing more than attention seeking conversation / lifestyle pieces for people with more money than sense. All this is just personal opinion of course ! 😀 -
Hi Daveox, For the sort of money you are looking to spend, personally I would forget the Hofner and get a Gretsch Junior Jet II bass... It's extremely versatile tonally, not too heavy and looks the business. It can do anything to the point it doesn't even sound like a short scale instrument if you get the right strings on it.... very punchy and has loads of character. I can play anything from 60's pop and 70's / 80's rock right through to Iron Maiden sort of stuff etc … Absolutely love mine ! Maybe worth thinking about at least.

These new ESI boxes look really good, and seem quite versatile in how you can set them up. EG all 8 channels as OUTS or all INS , 6 as INS and 2 as OUTS, act as a MIDI merger or Thru Box etc. There is a 16 channel version also. Highly recommend ESI gear. ESI Midi Interface

A Soundcloud playlist of mostly ex- BassChat composition challenge tunes which are currently forming the basis of an instrumental album which I might perhaps complete in this lifetime. An eclectic mix of styles. I'm a one man operation so it's all a bit slow moving! fool's journey Demo Playlist Cheers, James.
