  2. Ambient I'll recommend to proceed with *extreme* caution regards WD40 , wear gloves if you try it, and don't blame me if your hands fall off after using it. Though *I* have not encountered any problems, this may or may not be the case with any one else so... if in doubt just buy proper string cleaner or new strings and be done with it! And don't get it near rusty nuts... or drink it. I think that's all the Health and Safety stuff covered then. 👍
  3. Hi dmccombe , It's certainly not a long term fix, I can get perhaps a week or 2 more out of old strings while I'm saving up for new sets. I have done this for many years with no adverse effects to guitar or hands, just don't go over the top and maybe best to completely remove strings when you do it. I am sure the more discerning player would never lower themselves to using such a method... to me it's all Rock 'n' Roll , so I couldn't care less. 😜
  4. WD-40 > Rag > loosen strings > rub up and down strings a few times > retune strings > zing! 🤩
  5. Currently using D'Addario Pro Steels. My bass is allergic to any other brand .....It gets a fever...and the only prescription........is more NYXL. 🎸

A really rather good compressor pedal , smaller version of the Moen Uni Comp which gets good reviews on the ovnilabs website. This has an EQ defeat switch, and it has a nice clicky true bypass footswitch. Added bonus here is that the green power light will flicker or glow red when the compressor takes effect. Yours posted 1st class (to UK Mainland Only) for £25.00 innit. Paypal gift / friends payment or whatever they call it now or bank transfer , either is fine by me. Cheers, James.
  7. fleabag , If you mean those instruments with big long metal dildo looking things stuck to each side … then yes, I dislike them too 🤪
  8. Well ...I had a listen over some Audio Technica ATH M50X ' phones and.... yep it sounded like shite to be fair... very generic sounding in fact, and this "let's play some harmonics and finger pick a few chords"....really gets on my m'oobs to be honest... "baby"? " parents"! ? it's a bit o' wood pal! As much as I can truly appreciate the *insane* amount of skill it must take to make something like this, I feel these sort of basses are nothing more than attention seeking conversation / lifestyle pieces for people with more money than sense. All this is just personal opinion of course ! 😀
  9. Hi Daveox, For the sort of money you are looking to spend, personally I would forget the Hofner and get a Gretsch Junior Jet II bass... It's extremely versatile tonally, not too heavy and looks the business. It can do anything to the point it doesn't even sound like a short scale instrument if you get the right strings on it.... very punchy and has loads of character. I can play anything from 60's pop and 70's / 80's rock right through to Iron Maiden sort of stuff etc … Absolutely love mine ! Maybe worth thinking about at least.
  10. These new ESI boxes look really good, and seem quite versatile in how you can set them up. EG all 8 channels as OUTS or all INS , 6 as INS and 2 as OUTS, act as a MIDI merger or Thru Box etc. There is a 16 channel version also. Highly recommend ESI gear. ESI Midi Interface
  11. A Soundcloud playlist of mostly ex- BassChat composition challenge tunes which are currently forming the basis of an instrumental album which I might perhaps complete in this lifetime. An eclectic mix of styles. I'm a one man operation so it's all a bit slow moving! fool's journey Demo Playlist Cheers, James.
  12. Umbrellas There you go, it is in fact real.... have fun ! James 🤪
  13. I sent it a few seconds ago, no response as yet though ! 😧
  14. "A massive thanks to everyone who voted for my tune!... I couldn't have done it if it wasn't for my mum, the cat, my agent, my PA, the office cleaner, my neighbour's gerbil etc etc …" It was extremely close this time! It's great to listen to all the different interpretations... I love a bit of diversity me. 🤩
  15. Vic Reeves and George Dawes were doing this sort of thing with the "club singer" style on Shooting Stars way before this bloke attempted it. 😒
  16. Usual tactics... blind panic... Just a tune really, not cutting edge or experimental, sorry. It is however typical of the "fools journey" sound. I prefer to go for accessible emotion. It comes complete with the painting inspiration and my "star traveller" artwork which I thought was quite fitting. The Artist's Passion PS sorry about the various wonky bits and rubbish mix !
  17. My new black Gretsch Junior Jet II short scale monster.
  18. To be fair, Clear Tone Instruments has had the monopoly on selling sub standard guitars and basses on ebay for too long. About time there was a bit of unhealthy competition out there. You never know he might even include a free sample of that sh*te he must be snorting .. plus a free brass nut upgrade.
  19. The Trace Ah250smx brings back some jolly memories for me. Was in my early 20's playing in a loud rock band. There were 2 guitars, one playing through a Marshall Superbass 100w to one side and to the other side having to deal with a Hiwatt 100w valve head. Also had a hard hitting drummer at the time also.I can't remember what I was playing through but I stood no chance volume wise. I really needed something more powerful, and as things were moving forward with bigger and better gigs I just happened to come into some money at the time so off I went to the music shop to investigate the options. I remember Hartke was just starting to make a name over here at the time but didn't do much for me when I tried it out. They had that awful Warwick stuff also. Did nowt for me. Then I had a look round the corner and saw the new Marshall DBS stuff and I was in love instantly . It sounded absolutely killer, looked amazing, but the problem was the cost... That rig was around 2 grand if I remember correctly! Next to it was the Trace Elliot stuff which I didn't know much about but was within the price range. I plugged into the 250SMX rig and it blew me away (literally)… Needless to say it was purchased on the spot. Fast forward to next band practice which at the time took place in a medium sized hall with a big stage. I really wish I had a camera to take a picture of guitarists faces when I bought in my new rig (with a bit of help), and setup up on stage … a Trace 1x15 , 4 x10,and a Trace 250SMX It was truly monolithic.... "ok lads when you're ready ….1-2-3-4 …." Needless to say it solved that volume issue forever anyway. ** EDIT Just noticed it's my 100th post 🤩 … I've only been here since 2007 to be fair though. 😐
  20. This has nothing to do with being young, female and attractive. I am going to prove it by uploading a video to You boobs … errr I mean YouTube of me playing my best average renditions of "Sex On Fire" and "You Sexy Thing". I will be naked while I do this. I will be expecting a thread to start shortly afterwards, commenting on what a seriously groovy player I am, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with me being a slightly below average looking white male in his mid 40's being naked. (I'm single by the way).
  21. Pretty much any song from Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree album for me.... Very Summery feeling and one of their best in my opinion.
  22. Had a proper brand new, bought from a shop sort of NBD. It's a short scale Gretsch Junior Jet II in black. For the price these are stunning instruments, in fact I literally did say "wow" when I first sat down to play it. That certainly has never happened before. 😎
  23. An excellent read for drummers and proper bass players apparently... not really to my taste if I'm honest.
  24. Congratulations on winning the composition challenge discreet , well done ! I officially recognise you as musical champion of the universe for the next month
