  1. Fabulous job, but I'd have to fit a grille of some sort... Having all those cones out in the open would make me reeeeeeally nervous
  2. Am I right in thinking this was basically the Modulus Sonic Hammer with a signature attached? Awesome bass, no doubt about it. Properly brutal.
  3. Damn, the guy had a proper quality beard too. Not enough of them around.
  4. I'm going to stick with the black knobs, and the black straplock buttons. I like the symmetry of it as it is, I think gold knobs would be just a bit too much.
  5. How it started vs. how it's going, part II... Bridge fitted and some old strings thrown on just to get it working. Frets polished, fingerboard cleaned but could do with a light oiling. Still needs a proper setup, and a good body polish. I like it already. To my utter astonishment and delight, it is nearly 2lbs lighter than my 2-Tone J. Depending on how well it fits tonally, I think this might be my new ska bass. I know gold hardware is a bit marmite, but I think this looks the absolute feckin business. Oh, and I've found out why these gold tuners were in the spares box... one of them is fecked something inside stripped out as I was tuning it. Into the bin it goes, and off to ebay I go...
  6. I agree wholeheartedly with both these statements.
  7. So much interest in the state of my knob(s). Ooer, matron I did consider gold ones, but... then I looked at pics of Spector Euros with gold hardware (these, for example), and they all have black knobs. I had some gold ones and some of the black EMG ones in the old spares box, so I did an A/B comparison and I have to say, I prefer the black. Once it's got its bridge and is all finished, I'll do another A/B and make a final decision.
  8. Dreadful news. This year's bash will be the lesser for his absence. I now bitterly regret missing last year's. If only I'd known. Any news on a virtual condolence card?
  9. How it started vs. how it's going...
  10. Looking at that lineup, I can barely contain my apathy. Ye gods, what a snoozefest.
  11. Gold bridge, subtle black EMG control knobs as per the top range Spectors, and other little details - gold screws for the TRC and back plate, etc. And a good elbow-grease going-over with T-cut and polish.
  12. I've just seen the price of them, and am going to go & make a coffee specifically to spit out Joking aside, I'm an Elixir fan so I'm used to spending big money on strings (albeit only every 18 months or so!). I've no doubt they'd look amazing, but I'll stick with my regular Elixirs I think. I've a part worn set I'll throw onto it for the time being.
  13. I think this has decided it. Gold it is.

  15. It is indeed a bolt-on. Ta for the correction
  16. Deed is done... black bridge on its way back and a gold one on order.
  17. This, I like.
  18. Yes, this is what I was thinking. I'm not big on the stealth thing TBH. Like you, I'm not normally much of a fan of gold, but it does go really well with some colours -- for me, red and black are the two that it really suits.
  19. @Dov65 here 'tis. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371949328025?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=009VOmD9RYS&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=P69nGy5vTbG&var=640897915997&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  20. Arrived in need of a bridge saddle (in truth, a whole new bridge wouldn't hurt... see below), strings and a proper clean-up, and those tuners want straightening too. A few hours later, the hardware's off and it's an awful lot cleaner, and the battery (which was dated 2009 ) is in the bin, and now it's got me thinking... do I stick with black bridge & tuners, or change? Don't want chrome, but maybe nickel? Or even gold, for a bit of a JPS Lotus vibe? There's a black bridge in the mail, but I can always return it and get a different one.
  21. Can you paste the text of the post here, for those of us who don't do instagram? Ta
  22. Just scored a Spector Q4 on eBay for £102.

    Result.

@Marc S to answer your question, yes it sounds faaaar more expensive than 102 quid. Really superb tone... smooth lows and crisp glassy highs, and lots of power. I still can't believe my luck, a Spector for the price of an Encore.

      Nice @Rich

They do look good, as I said.

Its great when something like this happens. Result indeed

  23. Anthony Jackson plays sitting down, and always has. I know it's not very rock'n'roll, but if it's good enough for him... I bet that shower will feel like absolutely the best thing ever. Fantastic news all round.
  24. Another vote for John Giblin here.
  25. Looking back through the last four pages, I can only conclude that when you said "discuss" what you actually meant was "agree with me or else".
