1.
new baby Doodle (sorry, 'Sally' I believe, eh Rich lol)
Ohhh yes you just KNOW that the name has stuck forever, don't you?
Steve, I like your second idea and your logical approach makes sense.
+1 for the second design. I also v.much like the idea of varying knob size. Stop sniggering at the back there, boy.
 2. Also off topic, but what's the silver unlabelled one with 4 knobs?

3.
Can't do it.In fact i can't even talk or answer a question whilst playing bass.
Don't feel bad about it. Talking whilst playing is MASSIVELY more difficult than singing and playing. Don't know why this should be the case, but it is. I can sing and play quite well, but talk? Nah.
 4.
whatever you think of Sting, the verse of this song is an impressive bit of vocal & bass coordination- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnnUDGLnUzE
Blimey, that is good stuff. I think ol' Gordon gets an unfairly harsh press. In a similar vein... whatever you might think of Mark King, this is a very impressive example of the play/sing thing. Slap-phobics should fastforward to 0:45 or thereabouts Level 42 - To Be With You Again live
 5. Well as you know, I'm a big fan of controls that follow the edge of the body... so how's this? The cyrillic characters are supposed to be switches... they're the closest things I could find in Word...
 6. Covers vs. originals vs. tributes, oh god here we go again. Have I slipped into some sort of Groundhog Day?
 7. I like to think that in my head I am still in my teens... but I have 2 pairs of slippers and caught myself looking at cardigans in Debenhams a few months back. Although in my defence, one of my pairs of slippers are Gromit ones a bit like these. Actually, this probably makes it worse.
 8.
I´m sure a lot of the guys here playing in covers bands would love to have the opportunity to play stuff like "Isn´t she Lovely" and "I Wish". Both cracking tunes and very inspiring to play IMHO.
Yes, it's in our set... and yes, oh god I LOVE playing it. The groove is so cool, it gives me goosebumps. Wonderful, if you pardon the pun.
 9. Nice one Al, good luck for Friday.
 10.
If you're a musician on the payroll, you turn up on time, play the gig, get paid and go home. End of story. You just have to keep your mouth shut and take the money...
Absolutely. For a paid dep, this is the only possible mantra.
Stevie has his moments too ..
Exhibit #1 for the prosecution: I Just Called To Say I Love You But he can be forgiven for almost anything, simply for giving us Superstition, Sir Duke and I Wish.
 11. This sit. is no longer vac. (pending rehearsals) Will let you know how I get on!
 12. What we need now is an 8 page thread on the inappropriate use of a pick.
 13.
im not saying its an ugly bass, but its just a fender copy.
'Tis true, he could IMHO have found something nicer for the front page -- I bet it's a beaut to play, but sorry to whoever owns it, but it isn't really a looker -- but it's not "just a Fender copy" any more than ferret's red 'un is just a P copy. Personally if I'd been choosing a 'straight' looking bass for the shop window, I'd have used the lovely burst Jazz at the bottom of the sale stock page. Oh, the GAS when I look at that one...
 14. Try a model shop? Back when I used to glue bits of plastic together as a hobby, you used to be able to get various plastic sections in lengths -- I'm pretty sure round white rods were among the available bits.
 15. I had to drill a hole for an extra control, as the EMG eq system I got was the BQS 3-band with the sweepable mid. There was plenty of room for the extra control. If you fitted a 2-band eq then obviously you wouldn't need to do any drilling (or any other mods). The EMG pickups are exactly the same size as the crappy stock ones.
 16. +1 for Frank Dunnery, Al Murphy and the astonishing Martin Taylor, but my absolute favourite is Mike Stern (ex Miles Davis and Blood Sweat & Tears).
 17. I think the Norwich gig will be the closest one to Bilbo... I'm sure he'd love to come along
 18.
I love the title of the thread - I don't know how many times I've said the same!
God yes -- if I had a tenner for every time I've said/thought "Yay, I'll never need another amp/cab/whatever again"...
 19. I had a Tobias Pro six string for quite a while, and had always intended upgrading the bits. The standard Mighty Mite pickups and guts were weedier than a very weedy thing. I replaced the internals with an EMG 3-band system which was very good, but never got round to doing the pickups. I needed EMG-40Ps but couldn't afford them I don't like Barts personally. A lot of it depends on the sound you want really. Bart pickups for example will give you a warmer tone than EMGs. The possibilities are wide. Is yours a 4, 5 or 6?
 20.
Carol Kaye will be along in a minute to take the credit for this!
coffee->screen
 21.
Or maybe more appropriately, "Can I nominate this for the best quote if the going gets sticky"
Or how about "Can I nominate this for the best stick if the quote gets going"? Perhaps not.
 22. I love everything about it, except the control plate. It just looks cheap and completely ruins the aesthetics.
 23. That PJB amp looks very impressive... until you find the bit that says:
Weight: 110 lbs
It made my back hurt just reading it.
 24. I lost my Akai PSU in my last house move, so I've been using the PSU from my old Digitech BP80, which seems to work fine. It doesn't like any of my other 9v PSUs though. Verrry strange.
 25.
i wouldnt class neil diamond as jazz myself.

Agreed. Neil Diamond has done some good stuff and plays to large audiences.
