1.
nothing embarrasing as such, but once at a gig I held aloft my bass in mighty rock pose, and was then covered in polysterene from the roof tiles in the low ceiling I had just put the bass through.
I know of a bloke who, whilst adopting a similar pose, put the headstock of his Les Paul into a ceiling fan...
2.
If you still want to play if you can change things you could try talking with mr. negative alone. If you do it in front of the band the competitive side will make things escalate. Start by telling him what you enjoy about playing with him and then go into the one thing that bothers you and then ask if he could change it for you. If you make it easy for him to change he may.
It seems like a real shame that you're effectively being forced to walk away from music you like and guys you've known for 20 years in some cases purely because of one bloke's idiot mouth. The rest of them sound like nice guys. Try to sort things out with Captain Attitude first, I reckon. If he gets in an arse or refuses to see reason or whatever, then take your graceful bow.

4. I had two Peavey 4x10s in my rig many years ago. They sounded fantastic but, oh my god... they weighed more than Belgium.
5. I remember playing an Atlanssia bass once that had a neck very much like that. Can't remember anything else about it tbh.
6. Ok so they're not bass related, but... JEREMY CLARKSON JOINS GREENPEACE LIBDEMS KEEP MANIFESTO PROMISE "THAT REFEREE WAS RIGHT TO PENALISE US FOR SUCH A BLATANT FOUL" SAYS ALEX FERGUSON
7. NATHAN EAST FAILS TO ENDORSE NEW PRODUCT 'SIGHTREADING SUCKS, TAB IS KING' SAYS BILBO
8. Shep, I used to have this power amp and can highly recommend it. It's a very powerful tool, both in terms of, errm, power and in terms of facilities and features. Most of which I never even got round to trying. If you do want to run it in bridge mono, then yes you'll need to bugger about with specially wired 4-pole speakons. I used to run mine in 2-channel stereo, with the preamp output plugged into both channel inputs. Thus allowing me to use ordinary 2-pole speakons and cable etc.
9. The secondhand market is definitely your friend. Try everything you can get your hands on. If you decide you really want a brand new bass, I recommend trying anything with 'Yamaha' on the headstock.

11. Gareth I've been reading this thread with increasing disbelief. I'm angry just from reading about it, god mate you must be incandescent with rage. It's a disgusting situation. Why they haven't grovelled a huge apology by now is a mystery to me. Sounds like terrible customer service.
The people suggesting a £1500 shuker should know that this should be over £2000 with the matching head afaik, sure no one pays list but it's £49 less than I paid for a H without the matching head, that was before the vat and price rise too!
My entirely custom spec Shuker 5 was 1500 quid. That's if you include all the diesel costs for all the visits I made, tyre wear, new shirt for each visit, celebratory bottle of Moet that I didn't actually buy, cuddly toy, teasmade, etc etc etc. 2 large for a basically mass-produced off-the-peg instrument is a joke IMHO. EVen if it is the list price that nobody pays.
12.
The pretty much reflect what you put into them, both in finish and sound. This one is on ebay for the impatient.
"The nut is 1 7/8 inches wide" I'd heard they had chunky necks because of the lack of truss rod, but my god... this is 1/4" wider than the neck on my 5-string Status...
13. I had a Delta rig for a while -- the 600w head with the 1x18(?) and 2x8 cabs. The sound was brilliant but oh god that big cab was sooo heavy... This is a bargain.

SOUL DESTROYERS

Come and say hi if you're there. I'll be the one holding the Shuker 5
15. Have moved this to the Gear section -- it'll be more visible there.
16. See mate, I told you we was a friendly bunch
17. Which phenomenon? Mr. Caron? Fusion? Youtube?
18.
I now have new colour scheme for a build.... CAR with white pearl/cream, RW block and bound.
With matching headstock, it's my favourite colour scheme for a Jazz. One day I'll get Mr. Shuke to build me a 5-string one
19. White pearl. I know you don't go for white much, but pearl is a different kettle of fish.

Bitsa P

Mind if I hijack for just a moment? I've finished my bitsaP too so I thought I'd share. It's an unknown body (nice chunky bit of solid wood), the gorgeous neck off my old Squier Jazz, big chunky bridge, cream pearly plate, cheapass pickup and an EMG BTS 2-band eq. It's worked out really well, better than I could have hoped -- I've shimmed the neck slightly and its got a lovely low action as a result. There's a more powerful Wilkinson pickup on its way to me in the post. At some point it'll get a J pickup at the bridge. All I need now is an old-skool funk gig (I've fitted all the plate screws since I took the pics)
21. I love this guy's playing. I saw him with Mike Stern's quartet a few years back; his was some of the finest fretless playing I have ever seen or heard. Tasteful, accurate, and with a fabulous sense of melody. One of his solos was so melodic in fact that the tune of it actually got stuck in my head for a couple of days. How often does that happen with a bass solo? Ah well, I'm sure somebody will be along in a bit to tell us what a pile of toss slap is.
22. If anyone else is hoping to win the Basschat 'Most Valuable Player' award, don't bother. Pete's got it sewn up for ever Sir, you are a diamond.
23. Is it in the standard factory finish, or an exotic top? Can't stand those coffee table Mars bars.
24. Squier Jazz body, black, plywood unfortunately. WYSIWYG. It has buttons, w/b/w pickguard and control plate, and a pair of active pickups of unknown origin. The body is fairly scruffy, a few scrapes here and there, one particularly deep on on the back. And as you can see, it's been drilled out for a body-edge jack socket (a standard rugby-ball plate fits). Oh, and it also comes complete with two stickers courtesy of my son Free to a good home for the cost of postage (about 8 quid, according to the RM website) or you can come and pick it up. Please note that I am a lazy bugger and can't be bothered to take it apart, so it goes complete.
