1. My old 90s wood-necked Series 1 has been around the block a few times, in my hands and previous ones, and the hardware was really starting to get tired. Especially the bridge, which had long since stopped being black and was actually going green in places... The final straw came when I discovered that an intonation screw was missing. I could have got a new screw from Status, but instead i took the opportunity for a bit of a change and went for gold. A set of tuners and monorail bridges later and, well, i think it look a million bucks. Here's a before shot with everything black: And here's what it looks like now. Since the pics, i've refitted the 2nd small black eq knob so now just the volume and pan are gold:
2. I made my own using some of the Auralex foam, a bit of marine ply and some carpet tiles. Another one of our number made one of his own too, and did a belting job of it. Have a quick search, there's a DIY Gramma pad thread somewhere on here.
3.
I wish Old Git was here to comment on this
You and me both mate.
4. Orright my luvvur? Welcome to yet another Bristle based bass basher hope you enjoy it here. Must admit i have only ever admired the Electric Ladyland stock from afar, really must pop in one day. I used to love Ashley's Warlord basses. Many moons ago I fell in love with one at the Bass Centre, I'd tried a very nice JD Roadie first but the Warlord blew it away both sonically and visually. I'd have gone back to buy it if i hadn't stumbled across a Wal going for silly money instead.
5. Another vote here for Sailing By and the shipping forecast. So relaxing and evocative. North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne and Dogger...
6.
http://www.exit45.com/VaxIV Just in case anyones interested, this is a great site about someone who transferred the guts.
This is a stunning piece of work. Not too keen on the lack of body contours but the craftsmanship is superb. If I had the readies I could quite fancy having some Variax guts built into a Shukerjazz or the like.
7. I love Power Windows and everything about it, including the bass sound. Starting to look like I'm very much in the minority.
8. Cans are very definitely the way to go. I plug into either my old Pandora (bought from fleaBay for two thirds of bugger all) or the Pod XTlive. Cans-wise, I cannot recommend Sennheiser HD280pros highly enough. Utterly superb.
9. A quick plug -- I had one like this for many years, actually it was this amp's predecessor without the DPC control. I gigged the crap out of it for years and it never let me down. IMO the best bass product Laney have ever made by a mile. Wonderful things.
10.

I guess if we were talking about Blue In Green or Straight No Chaser rather than Price Tag, the sheep would all be wearing berets..?
11. The only ready-made cables I have are two Klotz leads I bought in 1986. Used them for pretty much every gig and rehearsal since, never a moment's trouble. All my others are homebrew. Jack-wise, i like Neutrik straights and Switchcraft right-angles. If i was to buy a ready-made now, I'd go straight to OBBM.
12. I love this guy's playing, his whole approach to the instrument. 'The Enormous Room' is my favourite solo bass piece, quite beautiful and mesmerising. Still, i'm sure somebody will be along in a minute to tell us it's w***ery, grooveless, not 'real' bass, etc etc.

14.
A true mod would get more upset with that comment than all the extremely rude comments that came before it. A good mod, well I haven't seen one yet
Jolly good. Can I get you a saucer of milk?
15. 200 quid with not a single bit of hardware on it, and a buggered truss rod? Yeah but apparently they are rare. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Washburn-1989-Series-1000-STATUS-Headless-Electric-Bass-Guitar-PROJECT-S80-/350524202360?pt=Guitar&hash=item519cdedd78
16. Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
17.
Been thinking about it and I probably won't email the person in charge... even though they are a friend too it wouldn't be helpful for anyone, and would be perceived as more childish than trying to fix things. I'll ask my wife to pass on what's happened as the person currently in charge is more liable to tear him a new one than pander to his mood swings
On the contrary, I think it would be very helpful. As has been said, there's a choir that wants to sing and musicians that want to play and the only thing buggering it up is this monumental knob. You know, the guy with no face and a cock shaped dent in his head. The fact that he gets his hair off when those above him make decisions goes to show that his ego is totally out of control. It really starts to sound like he has serious anger-management issues, for one thing. Getting shot of him would be the best thing they could do. If he (and presumably his bint) were out of the picture, would you play with them again?
McGraham the answer is simple and staring you in the face. Contact said tool. Say you want to come back, you were wrong and so on and so forth. Also say you have found an incredible Keyboard player, guitarist, percussionist and 3 piece brass section who would fit in and are ready to go. Invite members of BC to fulfil those roles Invite said tool to an audition for this band that you have arranged... in a deserted warehouse...
Fixed
18. I have a mate who is a guitar tutor but also offers basic bass tuition. However, he is one of the few gtrists i've met who *really* understands bass and how it is such a different animal to gtr. He's a v.good bassist and could easily get a bass gig.
19. From my early 90s Series 1 fiver. Bass recently 'blinged', hence these are surplus. Excellent smooth action, and in VGC as you can see. 20 quid posted. Ay thang yew!
20. Damn. Just when I was thinking I was actually GAS-free
21. The good. My Shuker 5, of course. it just keeps getting more and more lovely. The bad. I expect this will get me shouted at, but... I have never played a single Stingray that has felt even remotely worth either the money or the hype. This goes doubly so for the 5. Just... not nice at all. The ugly. Still far and away the most horrible bass I have ever laid hands on. Terrible ergonomics too. And the sound... ye gods, I had a Columbus Jazz copy that sounded better.
22.
I have a Thumb NT 5 that is an amazing bass- dont gig with it though as I think it`ll get dinked.
Nah, they're made to be played. There's not much point in having a nice bass otherwise. If i was worried about dings, i'd never take my Shuker out of its case.
