I play a simple slow-ish riff over and over agan, mostly lows but with a few dusty end notes and a couple of snaps, and a long low note between repititions. Covers the whole freq range.

Does anyone else remember the days when Brynn Hiscox actually built guitars for a living (astonishing lute-backed acoustic instruments) and the cases were just a sideline of his?

Agreed x2. Having recently got my hands on a 1A, my bitsa P bass is now gathering dust.

I'd try to provide a video, and at a push I would provide proof of ID (albeit suitably redacted for MY peace of mind), but I'd definitely draw the line at social media 'friendship'.
-
Hold, I've got their second album.

At one time I believe Mark King's live rig was one of these amps with four Trace 4x10s..?

I don't do waistcoat, but I do hat. With the soul/silliness band it's a black flat cap worn backwards, and with the ska band it's either a grey trilby or a faux-leather black pork pie. I'd dearly love a proper leather pork pie, but can't justify the cost.

Bootsy must be permanently cold. Poor chap. If only his nan would knit him a nice cardigan.

I'd prefer a conversation about Bernard Manning's underwear to any R*ck*nb*ck*r thread As for my pants being hefty, I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or an 'oi, fatty'
-
Y'know, if anyone had ever told me that some day, my underpants would be a topic of conversation on BC...
-
I like that list! I was about to say "if you ever play in Bristol, let me know", but then I spotted your location...
-
Wind down with a drink, quick shower, bed, get up next day, wash the pants. [you got one anyway ]
-
If I do play consecutive days, said underthings receive a good wash during the day prior to the next gig. Otherwise, yes, they'd probably be able to walk on stage by themselves.

Hop on a plane, get over there and tw@t him. Then retrieve your pedal and have a bit of a holiday.

Good (and unusual) song choice. Are you going to be doing a lot of 80s stuff or just a smattering? Richard Butler's voice always made me want to clear my throat
-
The GP12SMX is my favourite preamp ever. Loved it.
-
Probably drifting into the realms of TMI, but I have a set of matching undercrackers and socks which I always wear for a gig. Yes, I suppose you could call them 'lucky pants'. Just to clarify, they are not the only keks or socks I own.

You'll have to spoil your paper. No, I said SPOIL. Not soil. Eww. -

Exactly the same choices as mine cheers! -

Tough choice between the majesty of Barry's OHMSS, and Chris Cornell's epic vocal contribution to Casino Royale. The oldie won a toss of the coin. -
Where did we all start this journey from?

I started off in 1982 with a '65 Höfner Artist II and Goodmans 1x15 cab bought from my metalword teacher and a 15w amp made with the help of my physics teacher. It all sounded dreadful but it was a start. I still have the bass After leaving school, I graduated to a Columbus Jazz**, Phoenix PHA-1 amp and a Sound City 4x12 cab. Weighed a ton but I was finally audible. Used this combination until '86 when my wonderful parents bought me a Laney Pro-Bass 4x10 combo for my 21st. I will never forget the sheer joy and excitement of driving up to Tempo Soundhouse in Hanwell to collect it. Shortly after that, a mate tipped me off that Hamer's Music in Reading had a Wal hanging on the wall for £330... yup, I still have it . The Laney served me faithfully and faultlessly for many years, eventually replaced by a Carlsbro Delta rig (not my wisest move). ** this was stolen by a supposed friend to whom I lent it and who promptly moved out of town leaving neither forwarding address nor bass behind. If you're reading this, Mike Haigh, you're a weasel-faced thieving dopehead **** and I'd like my bass back please. -
Take That + Rick Astley at the NIA last night. Yes, I know... What can I say, it was a fait accompli. Highlights: Rick Astley's voice. He's a million trillion miles from the spotty git of yore, his singing is now a joy to listen to. Such a rich, souly voice. Plus he came across as genuinely delighted and excited to be there, which is always a bonus. TT's stage show, the lighting and effects etc. Quite simply mindboggling, the finest indoor visual spectacle I've ever seen. Both bands; top-drawer talent giving their very best. Lee Pomeroy on bass for TT, didn't catch RA's bassist's name. EDIT: his name is Julian Cox. Very capable chap. Lows: The sound. Dreadful. I didn't hear a single note of bass all night, it was all a bit of a mush apart from the vox. And I was sat/stood 10ft from the desk too. Mind you, the place is an absolute barn so it's probably not surprising. Screechy idiots full of prosecco, either yelling conversations at each other or screaming at the band. SHUT. THE. FCK. UP. I didn't come here to listen to YOU, you witless harpies. I hope your hangovers are near-fatal this morning.
