1. Maybe hunt out another cheap Thunder, with good tuners, potentially even with other things wrong with it which are good on your current Thunder. Make one complete and working Thunder with original parts, and mod the hell out of the other one using quality components? Check out post #65 in the Westone Porn thread, and imagine it with black hardware ... http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2221411 Nothing to do with cheap tuners (I still haven't received mine yet), but a nice thought, is it not?
2. I literally just bought a set of modern-style tuners on ebay, new, for just over £6 (Inc postage). They're for a cheapish bitsa project bass. I'm accustomed to high-quality tuners, so it will be interesting to compare. They should arrive here within the next couple of days, or so. I'll let you know how they work out.
3.
If anyone doesnt like capitalism rearing its ugly head, it might better to move to a socialist state somewhere
I'd rather make a socialist state of where I reside, thank you. Interesting thread, this.
4.
Who knows? We can't track everything that's bought on here.
No, but individuals can share their experiences
5. I never said I was pissed off. I got the price that I asked for, and whoever buys the bass can do whatever they like with it (including burning the thing) once they've bought it. All that is correct. It was just an unpleasant surprise, to see it for sale elsewhere, so quickly, at a greatly higher price. It wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to wonder if profit was being made with the price jumping from £1100 to £1650, would it? (I've taken Molan's breakdown on board). Anyway, that's why I asked the question. I want to know what I'm dealing with here. My original question remains, even if it's not the case with my bass ... Is it common practice around here, to buy bargain basses, with the purpose of selling them on for profit? I would hope not. I've been using this forum for years, buying and selling stuff as I naturally go through it, and never for profit. Perhaps I'm naive, but I've always seen Basschat as having the closest semblance to community, as I've found in an "online community". A true bass players forum. Gear changes hands relatively cheaply here. I know this when I sell things, and I'm happy to buy things cheaply too. I would hate to think that folk might be exploiting that for personal gain.
6. Don't you just hate it when you sell a bass and, only a few days later, notice it for sale somewhere else for £550 more than you sold it for. Very recently sold a bass on here for £1100, and now seeing it for £1650 in Bass Direct ... The bass I just sold, unmistakably ... http://www.bassdirec...eamer_1987.html Might not be the case, but if it was ... Would this be common practice around here, to buy bargain basses, and sell them quickly for profit?
7.
eeek! waiting on a Mackie Thump this week, thanks for the confidence booster!
True that. I'm awaiting an acoustic bass.
8. I went into my local depot to collect something recently, and saw them literally chucking parcels out of the back of a truck. Disappointing.
9. I know what you mean. I had a Thumb Bass, which I played for years. I loved the tones that could be generated by the thing and it was great to play whilst seated. However, because the top horn and strap button are so far back, the first fret is so far away that playing around there is extremely uncomfortable and fatigue-inducing when playing live. It's a heavy bass, and with neck dive issues too, for sure. My Thumb bass was from the early 2000's, so it also had a chunky neck. Not ideal. I got rid of mine in favour of a Streamer. Every one of those issues was instantly erased. The Streamer is a different animal altogether. Extremely comfortable to play. Perhaps consider trying one, before taking the plunge on an Ibanez? Bear in mind, with Warwick basses, the neck thickness varies dramatically. The era of the chunky necks was the decade from about 2000 onwards, I think. Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
10. A guy in the "wanted" section is looking for one of these. "Blackparkas", his name is.
11. Compressor ... MXR. Effective tweekable no-nonsense compression.
12. Octaver ... EHX Micro POG. Tracks bass better than any.
13. Absolute bargain. Please, somebody buy this bass now ... spare me this torture.
14. Nice! Very cool bass, for very little.
15. I just bought a bass from Ian. Great transaction. He acted on faith, holding the bass over a complicated holiday period, and delivered an exquisite instrument, at a very fair price. Top Basschatter
16. Wow. Somebody just scored, big time. Great bass for peanuts.
17. Just bought a set of new flatwounds from Nige. Everything about the transaction was smooth and easy. All positive and happy
18.
So much to enjoy there, but I particularly liked the sentence that makes it sound like an unwise decision at ten to two in a nightclub: "Moreover, this bass guitar adopts superb wood and synthetic material, so you can trustingly take it back home for entertaining!"
Hahahahaha! Quite
19. Yeahhh, I'll take these. I just messaged you.
20.
are these the ones?
Aye.
21.
I don't expect the sound to change much over the next few months. We'll see!
So, a couple of months later ... how do the Cobalts sound and feel?
22.
That's exactly how i run my SS1!! Don't use compression though, so i might be tempted to give that a try....
Me too bud. My SS1 is from 1987, so it has the 2 way electronics. Always on the J pickup, with the bass fully up. I keep the treble in the middle for that Zender-type sound. Yeahhh, get into the loaded compression though man. It really compliments that sound from the bass. Tightens the natural punch in things even more.
23.
I've heard that Zenders killer Warwick tone came from a pink Stingray 5 on loads of recordings and live shows.
Shame you don't have a Streamer Stage 1. All on the bridge pickup, with the onboard bass boosted to compensate, and you're getting as close as an instrument will get you too the sound you want. Burpy, tight, and fat, all at once. Mega compression too. "Too young to die" was recorded straight into the desk using a 1990 SS1. Glad Horizontalste got satisfying results though. I've never had the opportunity to try a Stingray. Didn't suspect they were so versatile.
24. Can somebody confirm exactly how narrow the spacing gets for me please? I'm away on my holidays Saturday morning, and I need this info to be able to decide on the purchase of a bass before then. I'd be most grateful for any help.
