1. Ryan bought a set of rack ears for an Eden amp from me. Quick payment, top guy. 100% recommended.
2. Sold subject to the usual.
3. I bought these rack ears from someone on eBay a few years ago. They were sold as being Eden rack ears for small Eden amps. However, they never fitted my Eden WT-405, as with the ears, the amp didn't fit the width for standard rack mounting and also didn't exactly fit the holes in the side of the WT-405. However, I'm pretty sure that they are Eden, as the finish on the metal matches the finish on the steel chassis of the amp. Price includes the 4 screws (for fitting to the amp) shown and Royal Mail 2nd Class postage to the UK. Local pickup also available near Glasgow if required. Each ear is 90mm high and approx 87mm wide. Please check that these will be suitable for your amp, sorry I can't be more helpful and tell you which amps they will fit! Ralph Edited to add: Having looked at some photos on t'interweb, I can say that they are definitely not rack ears for the WT-800, but that they look very like this photo for WT300, WT400 and WT550 http://www.fullcompa...-USM-KITS-70459
4. For the OP, the owner at Ayr Guitar owns an early Wal (Geddy Lee era) and has it on the wall - it's not for sale though as I think it would be in the many thousands of pounds price range. He let me have a play when I took my ACG in for a setup. It was nice, but not that nice. As Largo says, it was very heavy. I also got the impression that it was a bit of an unforgiving bass to play - I'm sure it sounds great for a great bass player, but as it was me it just highlighted my technical deficiencies and it didn't really sound or feel great for me compared to my ACGs. Perhaps a trip to Ayr to chat with the owner might cure the GAS? Although actually they have a nice selection of basses (not Fenders) as you would expect from a bass-playing owner. P.S. despite sharing the same first name as the bass player mentioned in the original post, that wasn't me!
5. Thanks for highlighting this! I hadn't listened to Frost* nor Milliontown before, and I'm liking them a lot. I'm not surprised I like this as both Andy Edwards and John Jowitt (cracking bass player, very musical and under-rated outside the 'prog' world) both spent some time playing with IQ (one of my long-term faves).
6. Not sure it's still available, I think it's mine! I'll have to check, I bought it off here (not from the OP in this thread) in May 2016. Edited to add: yes, it's definitely mine! Lovely bass.
7. As ever, I'm late to the party - no time to write nor vote in August - no disrespect meant to all the hours of hard work you have all put in. Just listening now.
8. I am enjoying your story greatly, Mark. (I was going to call it a 'journey' but that's been made into a trite phrase by overuse on 'Britain's got X Factor Voice Talent'). I just hope you are getting enough time 'in the shed'! All the best and keep up the good work. Here's hoping for a happy ending like Harry Potter - I haven't read Moby Dick but I'm sure your blog is a lot more enjoyable. Ralph
9. An enjoyable listen as ever.
10. Having re-read the OP again, here's an answer to the question you asked, rather than the question I thought you asked. I do it with DarkSky. You can check out some of the results on the soundcloud via my sig. We are (or were, currently looking for a vocalist), guitar, bass, drums and vocals. The keys add quite a lot to the sound and make it possible for the guitarist not to chug away on chords all the time (although he does like doing that as well) and allow me to play a more complicated and less chordal-supporting part on the bass. Any questions, please PM me - my rig is detailed on the 2014 post in this forum where you were originally asking for advice. http://basschat.co.u...s-or-something/ It does take a bit of 'stamina' in balancing on one foot for the whole song, and you can't wear Doc Martens - something small and grippy like the Converse Geddy Lee wears is useful. Unless you've got a really big stage, it doesn't add too much to the stage 'act'. cheers Ralph
11. Wow. Another great selection of tracks and once again difficult to make a choice. Well done all. My abortive entry didn't make it past a few scribbled notes this month :-(
12. I'm finding inspiration a bit of a challenge this month too.
13. I've just been asked if I was interested in joining a band that do originals in Glasgow. As it happens, I wasn't into the particular type of music, but it was an 'older' band and it didn't sound anything like Classic rock/GnR. PM me and I'll pass the details on. Ralph
14.
Haha, I took that photo at the Bristol Zombie Walk a couple of years ago. Banabraaiiinns Splits?
Not wishing to pick a fight with a zombie, but he will get a much better air-tight mask fit if he shaves off his beard! Steampunk music? (whatever that is . . . .)
15. I wanted to vote for everybody. The standard is really high this month, and I found it really difficult to choose 3. I really liked the way everybody took inspiration from the picture and chose different world viewpoints. They were all pretty dystopian though! That says to me that it was a very good choice of picture Rikki. For anybody just passing through this thread and wondering whether to bother listening to the entries, I would strongly recommend it, there's a lot to like here.
16. A late and rushed entry for me. Somewhat of a departure from my normal style, I've definitely gone for the sound-canvas and thrown lots of metaphorical paint at it . . . Using about 6 different sounds from Camel's Alchemy VSTi and some vocal FX from Izotope's Nectar Elements. And a confession - there is no bass guitar on the track. Is that grounds for automatic disqualification? https://soundcloud.com/torturedsaints/dirty-city Ralph Enjoy!
17. Wow. Wish this was up a month ago, as I bought another ACG 4 string off BC instead . . . There is no way I can have another, sorry.
18. Band now folded. Thanks for looking.
19. I just bought an ACG Finn from David. Excellent transaction, bass extremely well packed for courier, excellent communications throughout. Thoroughly recommended.
20. Lots of good advice above. I think it's a good idea to go in with the gear and sound that you think you want, so the engineer can hear it. If it doesn't fit with the track the engineer might ask you to do something different as long as he/she explains the reasons for it. When it comes to approving the mixes, if you don't like the sound of the bass then say so. It's up to you and the band to approve the mixes, and most studios have a revisions policy that allow a couple of minor tweaks to the sound. So yes, being more assertive with the engineer regarding the final mix is definitely the way to go, after all, it's your music, your artistic vision and he/she is paid to deliver that, not his/her interpretation of what he/she thinks you want! Good luck, have fun and enjoy your studio time!
21. I have the Adam F5s which I listened to in the shop (Rubadub Music in Glasgow, great store, knowledgeable advice and mail order, very friendly and keen to be price-competitive ) and compared them with other likely suspects. I didn't like the forward presentation of the KRKs nor the PreSonus (can't remember the model, but it was new out a few years ago), so it is definitely worth listening to them if you can. I did want to have a listen to the Equator D5s but they didn't have them on demo. They also recommended for the size of room that I was using that 5" was probably the best size, they had a deal on Rokit RP8s at the time, but said they would be too much for my room. Also, budget for some kind of stands - either the foam ones or monitor stands as well. If you can do a day trip down to London from Cambridgeshire to listen then I would say it would be money well spent (along with acoustic treatment for your room!) I still like the Adam F5s but TBH I do the detailed editing/mixing on headphones and only fire the monitors up in the latter stages. That's a whole different 'can' of worms though . .
22. The handles look good!
23. Thanks Dad! Even though I voted early, I kept coming back here to read your comments.
24. Voted! Another cracking crop of entries. It's becoming more difficult to choose, because of the different qualities/genres/interpretations of the pieces, but that's what makes it a fun listen. Well done all. I *hope* to have time to enter April's competition, so I'm looking forward to seeing what photo the winner chooses.
25.
OK... It's 28 days until the end of February... I've got a DAW I don't know how to use, a midi controller I'm not sure about, an effects unit they say can be used as an audio interface, no mic, no keyboard skills, no time, no ideas... and I'm wearing sunglasses... Hit it!
@NickD - it's worse than that - 21 days until submission! Good luck - but if you need help, the guys here are very knowledgeable and very helpful, so please ask. cheers Ralph
