2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
TorturedSaints replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
I'm in. Tier 1 and Tier 2. No bass related stuff for Christmas (that's a first) - but then, I don't play in a band anymore. I don't need any more music production software as I haven't done any recording for a while. -

I think I could be up for this. However, is it ok to sell stuff (without replacing it)? -
Geddy's Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass
TorturedSaints replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I've just checked, coming Thursday! -
I have the M1000 (and an M2000 too which I think has the same drivers, just open backed). I use the M1000 plugged into my Aria Sinsonido travel bass (which has a built-in preamp) and it copes with the low notes very well.

Thanks! Also available from Time + Space if you've got loyalty points to use up, but without the expansion pack. I also bought Izotope Neutron (standard edition) for a third of the price of the upgrade options from Alloy or other software.

I picked up an Aria Sinsonido travel bass to take away with me. Probably not to everyone's taste but stows away small. Not particularly cheap new, but I got mine for about £120. Mine lives in a rifle bag and has the rucksack straps on you would need to cycle to rehearsal. It's probably most suited to acoustic-sounding gigs because of the piezo pickup. Or there's always a Wing Bass - depends on the budget, and Alan at ACG is currently doing some very small/short basses to order.

Are you sure you don't write for Private Eye? If not, a whole new career beckons . . 🙂 Ralph

Wow. Seriously just wow. Only bass I have ever sold was my Shine SB24 PJ (and wish I'd never sold it). Amps I have sold Laney Richter RB3 and GK MB500. Cabs I have sold Warwick WCA410 and Peavey 410TVX. I really must try harder!

Yes, you're probably right. Just not to me! 😀

Geddy Lee of Rush is probably the most well known lead vocalist bass player. I'm sure there are others though, they just don't come to mind as easily.

I think I'm on a winner then - I pre-ordered and paid for it in February for £18.59 from Amazon. I'm pretty sure they have to honour the price! -
This is one of my favourites:

There's a formula relating length of pipe, frequency of sound and speed of sound and harmonic required. (Speed of wave = frequency times wavelength in consistent units for fundamental). This page gives you a link to instructions on how to build one! https://drumsoul.wordpress.com/2016/12/28/how-to-build-a-blue-man-group-pvc-tubulum-cigar-box-nation/ I love the Blue Man Group, would love to see them live.

Classical and Contemporary Studies for Bass Guitar
TorturedSaints replied to Rob MacKillop's topic in General Discussion
Rob, I totally appreciate Mel Bay's point of view. It was just my personal frustration and preference, and as I said, I hope that your work is a success. For Dad and Robbie, it's a bit difficult to do that with an eBook! -
Classical and Contemporary Studies for Bass Guitar
TorturedSaints replied to Rob MacKillop's topic in General Discussion
It looks good on the website, just the sort of book I would buy EXCEPT for one thing, the tab immediately below the music. At the risk of opening the perennial tab/notation can of worms again, I really hate that, as where my sight reading is right now, I want to concentrate on the notation and not have my 'brain' have a cheeky crib from the tab fingering. Now if the eBook is formatted such that I can see only the music, then I'll buy straight away. Any chance of that please @Rob MacKillop? I guess not, but nevertheless all the best with your venture. NEW D CLASS BASS AMP BUT WHAT?- QUILTER? MESA? etc??
TorturedSaints replied to BassManGraham's topic in Amps and Cabs
Paypal exchange rate is usually rubbish and can be bettered by alternate payment methods! Although I do find it slightly naughty of Thomann to convert their prices to £ STG using 'their' euro exchange rate. -
NEW D CLASS BASS AMP BUT WHAT?- QUILTER? MESA? etc??
TorturedSaints replied to BassManGraham's topic in Amps and Cabs
I got it at the previous price, not used it at any serious volume but I'm liking it much better than my previous Class D (GK MB500). Thanks for your review! -

June Composition Challenge - VOTING!
TorturedSaints replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
I'll enter that one as well, just to make up the numbers. The months that have passed since I last submitted a composition haven't done me any favours! A cracking set of entries this month, well done all. -
Did your playing improve AFTER you left a band?
TorturedSaints replied to DaytonaRik's topic in General Discussion
Yes and No. My bass music sight-reading has improved since the last band decayed and fell apart. That's because I have been practicing sight reading. As far as other stuff goes, I would say that my innate timing and ability to play with a drummer has got worse, just because I'm not doing it regularly. Any skill requires regular use otherwise it withers away. Ralph -

NEW D CLASS BASS AMP BUT WHAT?- QUILTER? MESA? etc??
TorturedSaints replied to BassManGraham's topic in Amps and Cabs
Saw your review on Thomann @Mudpup. I've been looking at the BB800 for a while and have now ordered one from Thomann unheard. I'm selling my GK MB500 as I fancy something a bit less coloured to go through my BF Super Twin. -
Here's my GK MB500 for sale, located in North Ayrshire, Scotland. I can also deliver it to the Newcastle area, although I won't have a cab there for you to try it out. It comes with original box, instructions, kettle lead, footswitch and GK-branded footswitch cable. Voltage is 240V and USA made. Price includes tracked delivery to UK so if you are able to collect I will reduce the price. If you are local to Glasgow/Ayrshire, you are welcome to come and try it out through my Barefaced Super Twin. The GK MB500 is well known around these parts, but if required, here are the specs/details: http://www.gallien-krueger.com/mb-500-specs/ Mine was bought second hand about 6 years ago (how time flies) when it had the designation MB2 500 and as far as I know is exactly the same amp as currently offered by GK. [Edited to add: the latest version appears to have an on/off Limiter switch on the top of the amp, so NOT the same as the latest version, sorry.] I've only had it out of the house a handful of times, all of the gigs I have done since I bought this have been with house backline, and it's only been to rehearsals three times. At home it's been used as a quiet practice amp and never driven hard. A few really light scratches on the top which I've tried hard to show in the photos are the only cosmetic defects. The only issue with the amp itself is the -10dB Pad push switch. Sometimes it doesn't latch properly and takes a few pushes to get it to latch in. Once it's in, it stays there unless you press it again. This is exactly the same as when I bought it, so no deterioration in 6 years. No trades, sorry, as I've already bought another head, so need the cash. Any questions please ask. For some reason I can't adjust the original selling price. Now it's £280 delivered. I'm not going to go much lower, I'll keep it as a backup and get rid of the Eden WT405 which is currently being repaired/serviced. Payment by cash on collection or BACS transfer please. No Paypal (sorry) and UK only. Here's a link to my feedback:https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/249533-feedback-for-torturedsaints/?tab=comments#comment-2608074
