Already on order... coming soon to Wazoo Towers

Stunning, all of them, me think. Thanks for posting these.

Without the shadow of a doubt, for regular (parallel that is) fretted basses I prefer Ernie Ball Super Slinky

I have quite a few amps, but I keep carrying my Promethean Combo on the ship as it is so easy to carry around and soundwise I can't fault it, you can get some real cool settings on it and it always responds well. I've also used it on a few gigs to with an extention 1 x 15 Electrovoice loaded GK cab and it sounded the business. Has anyone else here have any Promethean Luurrve stories to share?

Calling owners of basses with a pickup *close* to the neck
Grand Wazoo replied to Ancient Mariner's topic in Bass Guitars
You don't get closer to the neck than that, no wonder this bass is the weapon of choice of Mr. Robbie Shakespear thanks to it's deep booming reggae bass sound -
P-bass thumbrest (where a Stingray pickup would be)

You can get a lot of them from this reputable ebay dealer called ishibashi music http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ishibashimusic/EL...d=p4634.c0.m322

Thomann - Squier Precision Classic Vibe (nice bass!!!)
Grand Wazoo replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice one dave_bass5, mine started off like yours and after many mods ended up looking like this: from this: to this: -
Scruffy... I have done a few mods and a few builds, myself and its great fun, because the end product is as you want it and different from anyone else. Usually when I do this I have already a clear idea as to where I want to get to with a particular build or mod, however you have not specified what do you want achieve, or at least a model to go by. One thing is for sure, you will not find anywhere that you can walk in and buy a do it yourself kit in a box with body / neck pickups / frets and wiring looms / pots etc. You'll more than likely find unpainted bodies and necks sometimes even neck blanks without frets, or you can buy a cheapo bass like a Sue Ryder, or even one not so cheap but of decent quality like a Squier and mod it to your heart content with all the bits and bobs you desire, be it fancy exotic pickups, or pre painted necks from companies like Warmoth, Mighty Mite etc. But you must at least have some idea as to what you want the bass to look and sound like.

Of course their new smaler, lighter, compact and portable gear is welcome by all, but I hope they are going to couple these amps with some like minded cabs in the way that Phil Jones, TC Electronic and other companies are offering otherwise where would be the final scope of making things small and portable when you still need to lug around cabs bigger than your average car boot.
-
If you have you're in luck, cause..... "There's an app for that" HA! http://pocketlabworks.com/pocketGK.html who needs an amp anymore, huh? check this out! All you need is an iPad, an iRig connector, your bass, a lead and a set of headphones and your favourite GK amps are on tap, you can use backing tracks from your iTunes collection and you can practice away in silence with a decent bass sound and no one to bother you.

I've met another basschatter this morning
Hmm GW? I do recall you saying that you were now a total convert to fanned fretts. So thats all you play now? ps: goes without saying lovely basses.
5 strings wise yes, but if we are talking 4 strings basses than that little red number works a treat (and I've got another 2 of them 4 stringers I keep stashed away) -
A parallel fretted instrument ? Heresy ! Great pics, looks like you had fun. What was the verdict ?
Well they are very much like two different instruments, the Super J 5 really does sound like a bonafide jazz and my J/P 5 is more in the precision league so kinda like similar in looks but opposite in sounds personally I love mine but if I was flush I wouldn't mind owning Super J too. It really is a great sounding bass. We had great fun swapping and comparing sounds that was the reason I took the 4 strings p bass along as a benchmark to see how faithful was the J/P sound to the real thing. In the end we both agreed that the Dingwall with the p bass pickup while played in passive mode is difficult to tell from a Fender if you were to listen to them blind folded -
I went to visit a neighbouring basschatter in Greenwich this morning and we compared his Super J 5 against my Super J/P 5, and I took along my Ashdown Drophead and some of the other basses, not all of them mind you, my car is not big enough. Here is a slideshow, Jonny's bass is the black one. The other are mine, see if you can spot the odd one out http://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r200/xt...mview=slideshow

It is a part of their artist "private stock" series designed for Gary Grainger and I don't think you can get it for less than 7 grand if you are so inclined. The scratch plate is where the hidden neck screw are placed, if you see it's bolt on neck but with no visible neck plate or screws at the back, hence the need for that fugly scratch plate. I love PRS gear but this looks a little tacky.

Following is a reduced list of basses I have never yet played and which I'd love to have for a weekend to test as you can see the list is down to only 3 basses, because I can't think of anything else that presently gets my attention beside the 3 examples below: 1) Any Gus basses, those half metal, half carbon space age looking things, I've got to try one of them top of my list, anyone who has one and lives in London please give me a shout. 2) a Ken Smith 5 strings top of the range model to see exactly what 5 grand of bass buys you. 3) a Lightwave SL5 to see what the fuss is all about optical pickups compared to conventional magnetic ones. But here is a list of 3 discontinued basses which I'd like to see back in production again 1) Ibanez Musician MC924 in pearl white, but 6-7 punds lighter, come on Ibby you've done it before you can do it again! 2) Kubicki Ex Factor - why oh why you killed those! WE NEED 'EM NOW! 3) Steinberger remake of the original all carbon L Series of the late 80's early 90's - all those new Gibson made Spirit XT-2 are no way near as good.
