1. Stay traditional, buy bone or reconstituted bone, just make sure you buy it blank and not pre-cut, then get a qualified tech to cut the slots to match the optimal spacing of your bass and the correct heigth. Actually whoever said that once fretted the nut makes no difference is incorrect. Even when fretted a string continues to vibrate and deliver viabrations on to the neck, and the best media to translate the contact point between strings and the wood at the nut point is believed to be infact a bone.

 4. Came home tonight after work, and found this envelope in the mailbox from HMRC, I thought sh*t, what now? I've done all my tax return and declared every expense, what might they want? So I open the envelop and my jaw dropped at the sight of a new bass inside the envelope. No, seriously I am not kidding you! See for yourselves, see? It's a new bass, or Tech 21 new VT Bass amp head! Turns out they've charged me too much tax so here's a nice rebate (read new bass) from the taxman.
 5. Good question. I don't know the answer to that but I am sure if you ask Fender they'll put the prices up. These are not in the stores yet but we will know why they are cheaper soon as someone buys one. I am sure that the "Lord of the Squiers" might be their first customer and he will give us the lowdown soon as he gets it.

It's called living a life, the only one you've got, mind you. Wether you can afford it or not, money and debts will mean jack sh*t once you're dead and gone. Who was it that said: "It's better to regret something you did, than something you didn't"?

 11.
Lol dont tempt me!!!
Come and try mine next time they let you loose in London, I am sure you will fall in love with the AfterBurner II if you tried it. 10 out of 10 of my bass playing friends who have tried it think of it as a MusicMan killer. "Woooooo it's totally Cocoa Pops, mate!" one of them said, it snaps, crackles and pops!
 12. Back in 1980 I was only 19 body building, gym going, motocross racing, tough and rough, and I had this lovely but bloody heavy Ibanez Musician MC924 PW (Pearl White) which weighed something in the region of 13lbs, that's nearly 6 kilograms of back breaker! But you know I was a young'un then and it didn't bother me one bit, and I am sure the heavy construction contributed to the sound it used to bellow out. Nowadays when I think back at that bass, I laugh when I compare it with the weight of my 7lbs Dingwall ABZ, that's nearlly half the weight of the MC924. But yeah it was a great bass all in all
 13. However I must add that personally I would find a 6 strings bass not to be within my confort zone as it crosses over the guitarist realm and plus I am not that much of a soloist that I require that high end extention that the high C provides. So yeah I feel I am sat perfectly in between with a fiver.
 14. Well I blinking well do! Would be a lot less "at home" without it, I've been playing fivers for the best part of 20 years now and have totally adapted the logistic of my playing around that low B, so much so, that when I play a 4 strings bass I find myself working harder than I do with the 5th in place. It's a clever evolution of the instrument and not a fancy "must have" gizmo that purists might think of. It works and that's a fact. So move with the times and accept it.
 15.
It's official, I want one.
Here's some talented guy showcasing a 4 strings Super J (in a Jazz bass pickup style)
 16.
I want a sunburst or oly White 5 string now, rosewood/blocks. Can't afford it though.
Well it wouldn't look bad in your collection, if you're man enough perhaps if you un-order one or two of the 35+ basses you seem to have on order since time began you might be able to afford it. lol
 17.
I think I would almost give my right arm for a 5 string prima artist.
Well don't look at the newly built ones they are bringing out on this thread! it'll hurt you bad! 18.
boy have you got great taste in basses, congratulations on your latest addition of the fanned fret variety - any more of these beauties in the pipeline?
Not at the moment, but no one can never say never, can't they?
 19.
f*** me! That's amazing I love everything about it. Apart from the extra string which for me would just be a thumb rest. Sleepless nights set in yet?
Of course I am very keen to get it, but the sleepless nights are well taken care by the other 2 gorgeous Dingwall I've got
 20.
Finish would look amazing with a pearloid guard! What's preamp in it?
Active / Passive Glockenklang 2-band. Passive treble auto switches this from their website "Electronics on Prima Artist, Lee Sklar Signature, Z Series, Super J and Afterburner II Rotary switch All Dingwall basses (except Combustion) feature a 4-position rotary pickup selector. The pickup combinations are bridge pickup soloed, both in parallel, both in series, neck pickup soloed. Pre-amp - In the past we’ve used Bartolini, Aguilar and now Glockenklang pre-amps. These are all top-notch, high-quality pre-amps. What we like about the Glockenklang pre-amps is the smooth and subtle tone shaping and the Active/Passive treble control. We’ve spent a lot of time perfecting the natural tone of our basses so that they don’t need a lot of tone adjustment. The Glockenklang really fits well with this philosophy. The Active treble boosts and cuts as expected in active mode but when the pre-amp is switched to passive mode, the control is switched to a passive cut control. This is essentially like having two basses with two distinct characters. One active and one passive."
 21. I am proud to announce that my new Super J is completed and ready to be shipped, I've got some great shots from the factory before it is shipped. I think it looks great. It will come with the parchment cream pickguard fitted, but I have also ordered the pearloid one so once it's here I can tell up close which one is to be kept on the bass. Meantime here are the shots of the finished bass!
 22.
Want one! and the VT bass head!
You and me both, I've ordered the pedal and another one (the Red Ripper) see below video, that's got to be a laugh, when I get them I'll post a small review.

 24.
Parchment Cream. Plain and simple, there's enough else going on as it is!!!
I agree with you, which is what the bass will come with, and the spare Pearl one to swap for special occasions. lol
 25.
Is it from the 1980s do you know?
Late 80's, the 400 series was made between 89 and 92, I used to have a gorgeous Jazz with tortellini pickups that was stolen from me together with a Fender Jazz, stolen from the removal truck as I was moving homes!! (They paid me back but I never got the same basses back)
