May This Be The World's Easiest Bassline?
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Theory and Technique
It may only be one note, but listen to the subtleties-he's playing quavers but he alternates between staccato and legato notes. I've never heard anyone play that 'easy' bassline so deep on the pocket and not vary it once. Most people struggle with the discipline and the groove.
No one is denying that Doddy, yet the left hand does very little if not damping that G on and off... and yeah the rhythm abilities are noted but still... all my ear hears is doof doof doo doo doof doooo dooof in G, I want a bit more for the money. -
Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles from the album Revolver just has Sir Paul playing a high C note throughout the song!
True that -
Fret your E string on the 3rd fret (G) and let your picking hand groove, and the song is done!?? Yeah it's a G from beginning to end!

I say, there's 1 YES and 27 NO's so far in your poll. I think the majority has spoken clearly. Don't naff your bass up!
Funny how people tend not to talk about the contribution of the neck to tone other than the straight maple/rosewood/other fretboard comparison - I'm starting to think it's pretty significant.
You are accurately on target there, I tend to prefer maple over rosewood, because I am one of those people who can tell or feel the difference and although I have been enjoying that Classic Vibe as it was so far, I knew in the back of my mind, that there was something that had me humming and arring about a much needed resonance improvement in the neck department and now that I have swapped it with a whole maple one I have proven at least to myself that I was right, I am now 100% satisfied with this SQUIER bass and I believe that every penny that has gone into it to make it this way was worth it. 1 x Lollar Pickup 1 x full period correct wiring kit, consisting of waxed cloth wires, CTS pots, Sprague Capacitor, Switchkraft input socket 1 x set of Fender vintage reverse tuners & bushings 1 x Fender String Tree 1 x FAKE 60's Fender logo (FTW) 1 x Fender antique perloid pickguard 1 x Mighty Mite maple fretboard neck 1 x Fender reconstitued bone nut 1 x tin of Ronseal Yacht amber varnish 1 x small tin veneer laquer (B&Q) -
Thanks for the info regarding the Ronseal GW. Did you give it several coats? Re the "upset" comment. A while ago I posted a pic of my VMJ with a rather nice Fender logo and someone mentioned that you shouldn`t replce the transfer as you might be trying to rip someone off by passing it off as a Fender. Some people have too much times on their hands Jez
2 coats for the tint and a last coat of sealing clear lacquer. -
You're suggesting that fans of EBMM instruments shouldn't get involved in EBMM threads on Basschat?
Au contraire, the more the merrier, and variety is the spice of life but there is a thin line between threads about EBMM and preaching or trying to brain wash you etc., it seemed a few individuals were not happy with replies from the BC'ers who were indifferent to the game changer, kept coming back with "you don't understand the game change does this that and the other, almost too pushy at times. -
Actually, unless I'm wrong (which is entirely possible) I haven't actually displayed any 'fanboi' tendencies. I have explained how (in my interpretation) the technology works. I've also said that some people have stated they can tell a difference between series wiring of coils and have said that I would like to see waveforms of the sounds (however, waveforms apparently are no good, no matter how they are generated). Oh the irony...
Not you mate. lol not intended at you at all, you're alright Jim -

The one thing about this thread that's irritating, and which I declare is unparallel to my appreciation or less of the "gameboychanger" per-se is having to absorbe (by force feed) the spreading of the "EBMM QUARAN" from the fanbois off the ebmm forum, why must you? why here?. While one can entertain the thought of kissing Sterling Ball's ass in his forum, one must also realize that here, no one gives a peep, n'est pas? -
Loving your P bass GW and the neck tint is real nice too, Looks similar to the new Classic Stingray finish.
Thanks dude, though it wasn't my intention, I was attempting to mimic a 60's P bass I saw a pic of from the History of Fender book. But I guess that is also the tone that the Classic Rays were aiming at. It all worked out nice in the end. And now I have removed the thumb rest / finger pull thingie because I think it looks better without and to be frank it's no use apart from being a bit of a nuisance for slap/pull frenzies. -
That`s really tasty GW. Like the Fender decal, gauranteed to upset a few people on here Jez
Who's going to get upset? I am not hiding the fact that this bass is still a Squier Classic Vibe, but since the headstock of the Mighty Mite neck had no logo, let's face it what were the chances of me finding a Squier logo as opposed to 1000's of Fender fake ones knocking around on the dark side of eBay? Oh and this bass is not for resale EVER, this is the best P Bass I have ever had, which explains the extent of the labour of love that went into it to tart it up as much as I have done. The stain is believe or not.... Ronseal Amber Yacht Varnish Gloss available in B&Q for £12.65 500ml can. I have to add that despite the look factor (which is debatable depending on people's taste) side by side the 2 naked neck weighed differently with the MM being 15 oz lighter than the Squier, also if you "hit" the necks with the palm of your hand, the Squier would give a dull thump whereas the Mighty Mite would actually resonate with note very close to a low A (checked with a tuner clipped on the headstock). What that all meant was that once the MM neck was fitted, resonance and sustain, as well as the sound quality of the bass improved a great deal. I could immediately tell the difference even before I plugged it in the amp, it has a lot of twang even unplugged. Mighty Mite gets my full vote! -
Take this way from another avid modder, you can always get a can of paint and spray the pickup black, Simples

So are you going to play a set with this bass, and then come on with the Dingwall version of it for an encore, and see how confused people get? Sure Dave, the thread I discussed this goes way back when I first modded the Moo- moo and this P Bass. however I got my Fender original P/guard from a private eBay dealer, it was in a sealed Fender branded shrink wrapped packet, you just need to make sure it's a 13 holes one and that matches these specs: Incidentally these people (who I have used before and can recommend to you) could get hold of original Fender parts, so send them an email, see what they say http://www.axesrus.com/AxePlatesBass.html -

I like the vintage look as well but this look stands out more - thanks for posting, gives me an idea what your Dingwall's going to look like
Yes I will sort out the thumb rest soon, probably going to fit a clear one, or black or even perloid to match the pickguard, I don't like how that one looks either. it's on the cards, just didn't have the time today.
Is the scratchplate a standard Fender one for a Pbass? I ask as sometimes Squier ones don't have the holes for the screws in the same place.
Yes, we've been over this in a previous thread, Squier CV pickguards are cut exactly as the original Fender ones. They fit nice and flush, no extra drilling required. The only problem you might have would be if your truss rod adjustment is at the end of the neck and not on the headstock, in which case you will need to chisel out a small indentation to allow for the screwdriver to access the recessed truss rod slot. -
