1.
mmmh, first thought is that i'm glad i didn't lose sleepless nights - doesn't capture the essential visual character of the '51. Glad I bought the '51 reissue from Clarky - zero regrets!!
I wonder if the '51 reissue you've bought from Clarky is the one I just sold to him last Oct 2010. is it this one by any chance?
 2. push - pull is the way to go. You don't want to drill extra holes specially considering the space available under the pickguard is limited to mini toggles which are a pain and would litter the look of a bass, the push pull is more of a stealth solution. Email Charlie Chandler at this link and ask him nicely for a diagram http://guitar-xperience.com/onlinestore/in...1&Itemid=30
 3.
i think it is a masterbuilt custom shop bass, probably very well built using premium woods and other materials is it worth it? beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Yes I concurr, trouble is... you see, it's difficult to find a justifyable reason to purchase this bass. The Japan reissue 51 which just got discontinued, you just couldn't fault, it was made with the exact period correct materials, ash body, maple neck, same machine heads and bridge, and probably the same pickup that will go into the master built custom shop one, I cannot even contemplate what improvement could be done to that design to make it so expensive. After all it's still only a single coil 1 pickup bass in a position that will only give you one sound and no harmonics due to its position.
 4. I'm glad I've did my bit to help you believe that it is a really good bass and not just hype. If ever you are in a store also try their CV 50's P telecaster style and their Jazz, cause each of them has a their individual personality and sound.
 5.
What happens if you plug the Ashdown head into the Promethean cab?
Didn't try that, as I wasn't that bothered about that particular option I wanted to hear the Ashdown head through a 2 x 10" but I'll try when I am home just to see if it works. Cheers
 6.
Was a different cable used to connect the Ashdown compaired to the other two ? what was different between the tests ? what factors were the same ?
I've only got one speaker cable to my name, normally the Promethean and Mark bass' heads connect to their cabs with a short cable that sticks out of the cab. The only combo with a long detachable speaker cable is indeed the Asdown Drophead. So now 1) if I plug the promethean head through the mark bass 2 x 10" cab it works. 2) if I plug the promethean head through the ashdown 1 x 15" cab it works. 3) if I plug the mark bass head through the ashdown 1 x 15" cab it works. 4) if I plug the ashdown head in the mark bass 2 x 10" cab it doesn't work. (now I have not tried 4 or 8 ohms so next time I am ashore I'll give it a go).
 7.
I'd tend to agree that it is a duff lead as there is no apparent reason why it shouldn't have worked.
No it's not the lead, it's a brand new heavy duty speakon to 1/4 inch jack high quality and I have tested it with the volt meter it's fine. I just need to check the 4ohm thing.
 8. I had (and sold) a Bongo 5 HHP (Piezo) Despite the debatable marmite looks, potentially these are great basses specially with the piezo option, they have some real heart shattering powerful neodymium pickups but their potential is dwarfed by the stubborness of EBMM for not making the pickup settings more elaborate, you have two great humbucker with only a blend knob which basically makes you pan only between either or both together. I would have loved to see split coils options in both series / parallel, outer coils option, inner coils combination, you've got all that artillery at disposal and only one silly pan pot that will only always let you use the full humbucker in either neck / bridge or both, such a waste, you'll soon get bored as I did specially with owning a 25th Anniversary and a Big All SSS which were like swiss army knives in comparison.
 9. Funny that, they were at LIMS last year and were displaying all kinds of covers which to me looked very nice, I must be a good judge of character because it took me only 1 minute talking to the main owner to realize he sounded like a peasant and had no business accumen or savoir-faire for me to steer very clear from ordering a cover. And what made me get that impression was when I wanted to order one for my Mark Bass combo, I asked him how much did he want as a deposit, he said if you want to order one, I won't take a deposit from you, you pay it all upfront now or I won't take the order! And I replied: "seeya!"
 10. Has anyone seen this one on Thomann? http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_68er_telecaster_bass_cc.htm Is it worth that price tag?
 11. YES! Get a Fiesta Red and load it with all the proper gear.
 12.
Now up on Fender website, not exactly a '51 reissue... 13.
All I know is that Fender have officially announced this on Facebook and posted pics of the 60th Telecaster. I wonder what it will be like?
Please pass the fb link then! thanks
 14. Ok, here is the situation. I own 3 combo amps as follows: 1 x 500W Promethean P5110 with detachable head. The Promethean is very tasty little amp, I have bought it for portability reasons as I take it with me on long trip on my ship when I am away at sea. The only nag I have about this combo is the 1 x 10 speaker which is a bit of a compromise, similar to Pavarotti singing in falsetto. 1 x 500 Mark Bass CMD102P fitted with a Little Mark Tube 500W with a 2 x 10" cab - Super Dooper Combo and a force to be reckon with, plenty power, plenty volume and all the colour of the rainbow of tonalities. Last of the bunch is a 30W Ashdown Drophead prototype (it's basically aLittle Bastard Head without the lid), no serial number with detachable head and 1 x 15" cab, in fact its just like one of those Ampeg B-15 flip-top jobbies. True Vintage vibes, extremely warm deep low and capable of crunchy powerful distortion, an amazing little amp worth the £1200 price tag. today I have tried the following experiments all but one of them were successful. In order to accertain if the Promethean head would sound good through a larger set of speakers, I set about trying that head connected the other 2 combo's speakers: the Mark Bass 2 x 10" and the Ashdown 1 x 15" I've removed the Promethean Head and plugged this from the speaker output into the Mark Bass 2 x 12 cab input, gorgeous powerful sound, very pleased, definately an option to consider on gigs. I did the same with the Promethean Head into the 1 x 15" Ashdown cab again, blinking thunderous sound, warm and phat, loud as @#£$ I then did the same experiment with the Mark Head into the 1 x 15" Ashdown cab and hell YEAH! Deep subsonic lows, with plenty of clarity thanks to the VLE and VPF filters. The best of the bunch. and my last test didn't work out. I tried to connect the 30 Watt all tube Ashdown head in to the Mark Bass 2 x 10" speakes and no sound came out, yes I made sure it was plugged properly and the stand-by was on rather than off. Still no sound. Can anyone explain why? the Ashdown head has 2 speaker outputs one marked 4 ohms and the other 8 ohms as in the pic below but neither output gave the Mark Bass 2 x 10" speakers any sound. Any idea why? The Ashdown head was plugged back into its own 1 x 15" cab and it worked fine I'd just like to know why it wouldn't work with the Mark Bass cab. Is it because both the Mark Bass and the Promethen are "class 5" amps whereas the Ashdow it's a based on an old fashion design all on tubes? Thanks
 15. I don't think the problem is related to the brass nut, if it's a Jazz type of bass this is a common issue and it boils down to the fact that the string tree (I am assuming this, having not seing a pic) will only hold down D & G strings hence the for the A & E ones you will have to compensate this by winidng the string round the posts in a downward spiral so that you end up with a greater angle from the nut to the headstock, if you restring all your strings like that, it should fix it if not take it to a repairman to have a look at it. good luck
 16.
If you use firefox, there's a download plugin you can click on, then you can convert from flv to mp3 using flv converter
Thanks I don't use firefox but I'll look into it now, cheers
 17. Here is my dilemma There's this song I want to download from a youtube clip onto mp3 it's an instrumental version of a great song by the Jackson Sisters called "I believe in miracles" Does anyone here know how to rip youtube to mp3 and do it for me, or can suggest a piece of software I can download off the net that'll allow me to do that henceforth? Many thanks to all you clever clogs out there in advance here is the clip, much better without the singers howling all over that excellent bassline
 18.
Ordered a Fiesta Red CV P yesterday, expecting it tomorrow. I'll let you all know how I find it when it arrives. This has been a really informative discussion, so thanks to all for you excellent input, and helping me make my decision to finally buy one!
You certainly won't regret that one, I assure you.
 19.
The 60s CV P bass is a great bit of kit. The neck is utterly brilliant to play. Was going to convert mine to fretless but don't have the heart to mess with such a nice neck. Will get some new pups for it this year.
No!!! If you do I'll come and find you wherever you are and feed those 20 frets to you one by one!
 20.
PM sent Tom! Grand Wazoo, I'm afraid I have already tightly packaged it up and bubble wrapped it, so would prefer not to undo it all again. If your worried about the condition beneath the Pickguard, then fear not. The surface is immaculate, no other routing whatsoever only screw holes for the pickguard. From WDmusic. thanks, Luke.
That's ok not to worry, it was just curiosity.
 21.
It shows the value of the brand name - lots of punters just want Fender on the headstock, regardless of the sound or feel of the instrument. If you're happy with your bass, keep it and grow with it, you could always sand the headstock and stick a Fender logo on if it makes you feel better, (you wouldn't be the first or last). And what if basses had no maker's name or logo ? Would you be able to tell the difference between a Fender and a Squier in a blind test ? Too much choice leads to dissatisfaction and it might be better if we all spent more time playing and less time lusting after new toys............
Well said that man! I agree wholeheartedly
 22.
Squire CV will still be a Squire CV and however much you want to kid yourself and others, it isnt a Fender.
Hmmmm.. Am I allowed to disagree politely with a moderator? I'll keep it clean though my feelings and reservations with the above statement are angrier than what I am writing here. Yes a Squier will always be a Squier, I give you that. Is a name really that important? Lets see... : I can consider myself lucky not to be short of cash when it comes to toys, hence among some 5 or 6 top of the range Music Man basses which I've bought and sold between 2009-2010, I've also bought all 3 CV Squiers, and a Fender Japan 51 reissue, two Dingwalls, one here already, the other one on the way. I like to mod my Squier with good components so that they are up to the task because Squier puts cheap stuff under the pickguard. By doing so, some of them have even exceeded quality and sound of the average Fender MIM. I kid you not. Now the fact remains I have sold ALL the Music Man, the Japan reissue Fender and 2 of the CV Squiers just because I am onto different projects however there is one Squier CV I just couldn't let go and that is the Fiesta Red 60's Precision, an instrument which plays, feels and sound like a bass worth at least 5 times more than the £299 I paid for it. Ok I've spent about £60 on mods including the pickup but even though it will always be the Squier and not the Fender it makes no bloody difference to me and I am not deluded that this doesn't say Fender on the headstock, I could by all means get a decal and fake it but it's not in my nature to do so and least of all to shoot some statements like that one up there. It might not be Fender but by God it is better than some Fender I have tried in shops, and for that reason alone a name on the headstock means absolutely jack s**t. Unless of course you buy gear for the sole purpose that one day these would be regarded as high value collection items and fetch over £10'000 in Sotheby's
 23. Anyone wants this? They are going for silly money on eBay (£115 top and more) and I am selling it for £85, if anyone buys it from here I'll refund the shipping charges. Either that or pm me if you want to buy it privately and I'll remove the eBay ad. It comes with the fitting screws and the little hex wrench to adjust the saddle's heigth, only thing I don't have is the original package wich is just a carboard plate with a shrinkwrapped plastic sheet which went in the bin. Bought this to fit on my 50's reissue P but when Clarky bought the bass off me he wanted the orginal bridge so I was left with it. Here are some pics:
 24.
Matamp swear by JJ tubes, not sure if they'd be ideal for an Ampeg but another option to bear in mind.
I agree 100'000% to this, J/J Valves are the best around and it's what Ashdown fits to their high quality amps See link here: http://www.jj-electronic.com/index.php?opt...5&Itemid=10
 25. Ok I know this is not an original Fender but a Classic Vibe Squier, yet to me this is the best Precision I have have owned in ages and it plays wonderfully, so without further ado... here she is:
