1.
I never really got precisions. I've been playing for 32 years and had never really felt the need to pick one up let alone play one. I grew up in the era where everybody played them. I guess I just wanted to be different. I currently own a Jazz Deluxe, a Stingray and a Yamaha TRB5PII. Then it happened. 3-4 months ago I got a real GAS for a Precision. Don't know why, it may be an age thing. Anyway, tried a few out and was completly blown away with the new American Standards. The tone, the looks and yes, even the build quality of the new ones is right up there. Maybe that was the reason why everyone was using them, they just work. So, can't justify buying one (i've enough with my current collection) but I really do 'NEED' one. It arrives tomorrow - sunburst with a maple board
Good choice and I agree wholeheartedly, these new American Standard Precision and Jazz basses are superb instruments, the tone, the playability and the feel of the neck is awesome, I was so impressed by them I've had to get both of them.
They best watch their backs.. from what I heard recently anything with iInsertuppercaseletterandnamehere could end up being chased by the iPlods
Oh bollocks they'll have a hard time finding me constantly moving back & forth the English Channel haha!

 6. All I can say is that on Sat 10th last, when I chose to buy my brand new Fender American Standard Jazz, I lined up a Jazz Special, a Geddy in black, a Marcus in natural ash and the AmStandard and played each one in rotation to see what was what among them, and what impressed me the most in sound and playability. The one I liked the least was the Marcus, I just can't get on with that horrible pickguard extension and the dated preamp trickery in it, it might work well for Marcus and I am no way as remotely good as he is, and I am a great fan, but his bass didn't float my boat. Second from last was the Geddy badass bridge reverse tuners, is that it? (nothing to write home about either of those) and the two last contenders were the J Special and the J american standard. I did like the special but somehow the features on the Amercian Standard are better, such as the hi-mass bridge and the carbon reinforced neck, plus the lightweight tuners. In the end between the two I also am convinced the american standard has "THE" traditional jazz bass sound nailed whereas that greasebucket tone control on the special somehow made it sound too muddy to my liking and not funky enough. Hence my final decision was to take the Am Standard in the end.

 10.
How many Dingwalls do you have?
3 of them and I couldn't do without them.
 11. nonsense... Every song, scale, arpeggio I play with my gear is constant practice make perfect to me, gear or no gear, be it a £25 bass or a £4000 one (not that I have one that cost that much)
 12. Not dealt with them but I hate the snobbish "tude" they have towards anyone that walks in there just to have a look. You can only sit on their posh sofa to try something if they think you look like you are going to buy any of their extremely overpriced old instruments.
 13. 15. My present drum machine is off Garage Band on iPad, wicked, programmable and with fills. Oh and..... it always turns up on time.
 16.
Fran you must pop in again soon and bring the Fenders next time - that new Jazz is my dream bass and the perfect partner to the Precision
Steve, I'd love to believe me, but that damn long drive almost took the life out of me. I'd love to catch up again with you guys, for sure. Who knows perhaps you might visit London in the future?
 17. Thanks for the nice comments everyone, I have to add a few pointers, you know this bass will give you a bit of a surprise if you try it because it's got such a bite, my-my-my! Really powerful set of pickups, when you play them both full on, it's got this gorgeous sweet funk tone unmistakably Jazz Bass style. The bridge pickup on his own is really poppy like Jaco, and the neck on his own is the cherry on the cake of sub bass deep goodness. Another amazing thing about this bass is that you only need to feather the strings and the harmonics will ring out from almost every fret. I think these carbon reinforced necks contribute to bring an end to the days of dead spots and uneven sustain. I certainly can't find any dead spots on either of these, even though it is known that maple fingerboard very rarely suffer that issue, as it is usually much more common in rosewood boards (another reason why I prefer maple) Cool, I think I am done now, Dingwall, PRS (my secret ace thoroughbread in the sleeve) & Fender best of the bests. Add to that the new kitten on the way, gas is definately over. for now at least......
 18. No can't do, would me my answer! Get them to source a loaner from elsewhere, why should you risk your hard earned gear?
 19. I have a listing of real backing tracks without the bass on mp3 format, see the attached pic. If you want them pm me send me a cdrom and I'll burn them and send back
 20. [s]I bought these in the wrong gauge, and like a plonker I only realized it when I got them home and looked at the packets. The dealer was willing to exchange them but he hasn't got them in the gauge I need them. Anyways they are in their original box and unopened: 2 sets of Fender Super 7250M Bass, Nickel, Bass Strings, 45-105. If you are interested either pm me or use the ebay link here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170694089795?ssP...984.m1555.l2649 Thanks.[/s]
Oh and it was nice to catch up with Bankai (Martin? not sure) who works there at Guitar Guitar, such a nice fella, I really hope he gets the full time job as he is very helpful setting me up with a nice Aguilar Amp and showing me all the different settings, he knows his stuff. If ever you are in Guitar Guitar, look for him you can miss him he's the strawberry blonde one haha!
Why don't you use SpreadShirt for your T-Shirts, that way once you have designed them you don't need to stock up any number of them at your place, clients just order the ones you have designed and then choose number, garment colour and sizes by themselves, I used them for my forum and it's peace of mind, for me. Here is the link to Spreadshirt, by the way it's 100% free to create an account and a shop. they get paid by the percentage made on the shirts and you get a small percentage for the designs you have created and saved. http://www.spreadshirt.co.uk/ and here is my example store http://271179.spreadshirt.co.uk/

 23.
Cool! Exactly the pairing I will have on Weds except rosewood boards! What are your views on these vs the Squier Classic Vibes now?
You can't beat the Squier Classic Vibe for what you pay for them, in my views and without wanting to upset anyone except for the Squier pickups which are poo, the built quality on the CV's is way better than the Mexican Fender's. However these new American Standard series basses are hot hot hot! I am not made of money but the fact that I've gone and bought two of them means I really rate them as great tools for the job. If you can't afford the American stuff, then it is wiser to buy Squier CV's and mod them with decent pickups and wiring loom / pots / tuners / nut. As I have been doing for the last 2 years with my CV's.
 24. As promised, I went to Guitarx2 in Epsom to collect my new J and it's beautiful, extremely well playable but let the pics to speak for themselves!
 25. I have to agree with cream or white or anything bright, but only if it has a maple fingerboard, if it's rosewood then I would go for black. Here is what Candy Apple Red looks with a white p/g
