1. All silicon dessicants have only a small life span, in heavy humidity conditions their effect can last only 3 to 4 months, they are not regenerating so once they've done their job, that is it, they don't absorbe moisture for ever. We use large bags of the staff (5 kilos each) in ship containers loaded with cocoa beans from Ghana once they reach UK and the cargo is discharged, the bags of large silicon pellets is disposed of.
 2.
Lots of time on your hands?
Prime Bass look, that spreadsheet was prepared ages ago in under 10 minutes. I have it saved on disk and only when a change of status takes place, that it gets updated. Now, how can that justifies as having lots of time on my hands?
 3.
Awesome, I'm really curious, what is your job, if you don't mind me asking?
Port Captain, Master Mariner
 4.
No offense but a little bit weird. Saying that I can see the upshot of values for insurance but I suggest somebody steps in with an intervention if you start making pie charts of battery life/consumption across basses.
Oh come on now I wouldn't even contemplate pie charts or statistics, but this just helps me remember when I fitted the batteries in case they wear too quick, then I'll know there is a problem and I'll have to look into it in case there's a faulty connection or something.
 5. Here is a question about the Knack... Can you name any other Knack song apart from Sharona? Do you even know of any other song by them that has ever ever entered the charts or heard being played on the radio, I certainly can't. Mind you I've never been to one of their gigs either.
 6.
It might sound a bit morbid but that kind of thing is worth putting in your will---if your loved ones are going to have to "deal with" all your gear after you're gone then a "this is what this stuff is and this is what its worth" document could come in very handy, especially if you have anything odd/rare/valuable.
Of course that is another use for it, one that it's constantly in the back of my mind, I have one son who will inherit the lot, and this will help him get a grip with what he has on his hands when I am gone.
 7. I do like to keep things in check nice and tidy all layed out for easy reference on an excel page, things like bass specs and models, the dates in which the strings and batteries were fitted so I can keep track of how long they last me and so on. Also it's good to have the weights, date of birth, and how many years I've had them in case I need to move them on. I know I know it is a bit "anal" but it's all good fun at the end of the day (serial numbers and cost of each bass have been blanked)
 8.
It WAS... Now it's a 'Bitsa'. Actually, maybe 'Frankenstein' is more appropriate... Err.... See above... Nice one! Ooh, you are quite the cynical one, ain't ya?!
Well if it is a bitsa, then... with all due respect, unless this tread should go under the heading of "funnies" I don't really see what the fuss is all about with preventing the "JV" former status of your bass from being further dissacrated. What was it's gone, what you have now as many said it's trigger's broom
 9. Are we talking about an 82 Squier by Fender JV Made in Japan series? I am confused.
 10. Novus Updatus Optimus!
 11. I swear by my Mark Bass Compressore, perfect for all occasions and never leave home without it. The only time I don't use is is with my all tube Ashdown Drophead because it really does not need it, as the tubes generate natural compression without the need for anymore.
 12.
Ahh so that's from the GG in Epsom? I spend so much of my life in there now it's opened - Fantastic shop (I think I may have met your friend as well - at least I was very well served by what appeared to be the manager while I was testing Sadowskys!) Great looking instrument you have there - I am in the market for a P style bass as well - where did you find the Sandberg?
There's 3 of them on one of the stands right at the back by the repairman, you can't miss them.
 13. I've managed to secure a brand spanking American Standard P bass in a very dark 3-tone burst with maple neck/fingerboard, right up my street. (the date on the inside of the neck says 28 May 2011) What attracted me to it was the way it plays efforetlessly, the sound is very growly and full of bottom and to top it all up it's an 8lb'er (8.14lbs to be precise) I have tried 7 or 8 different Fender US basses and as many Mexican including the new blacktop's (nothing to write home about, by the way) I tried a Steve Harris but didn't like the flats on it, and the only other bass I liked slightly more than this one I got was not a Fender but a Sandberg California road worn inverted split P-bass pickup with a Musicman type humbucker at the bridge. Nice but way too expensive for what I had in mind. So I chose the Fender. It was an unbeatable deal (I cannot mention) because I found out an old friend of mine (we go back some 20 years) is the manager of this new Epsom store so, he said if you want, because it's you I can do it for....._____ to which I said yeah I'll have some of that, not as if I needed an excuse to cheer myself up after the recent events, still not sure if I should feel guilty? Anyway.... here it is: More pics here
 14.
ooh that is a fantastic bassline i think.
It sure is! Simple yet effective

 16.
I've never owned a bass made by a manufacturer whose name begins with 'E'. EKO - you don't want one of them, they are sh|te Nor 'J', 'O' or 'Q'. Jackson, Ovation, as for Q Modulus made a bass called Quantum http://www.smart-distribution.co.uk/bassan...uantumbass.html Nor 'U', 'V', 'X', 'Y' or 'Z'. U I don't know, V yes Vigier, Vantage. Y... Yamaha of course, Z Zon (Micheal Manring plays them) No disgrace there, I feel. That's nine reasonably tough letters. But 'T'? How can I not have owned a bass whose name starts with 'T'? T = Tobias, Tanglewood
17. Like the bike too, KTM SMR 690 It needs a set of Akrapovic's though like these much moore oomph and wheelie's like a good'n
 18. Can you be a little bit more specific, how many watts, how much cash you intend to spend, what particular features are you looking for? 1 x 15? 1 x 10? 2x10? Tranny / Valve??
 19. The Blessing, I likes them
 20. sadly this is what Jaco had become in his last year or so.
 21.
+1
+1.2
 22.
To be fair, and slightly off topic, he did appear to be bipolar and not seeking treatment for most of his life. That's not really something you can "man up" out of - it requires treatment and the right meds. I have a couple of friends with the condition who manage things quite well. Then again, if you count seeking treatment as "manning up" then fair enough...
Yes I am aware and meant no disrespect to Jaco or other bipolar sufferers, I mean it in a way that should have suggested if he ever managed to overcome those issues, today with him being alive still, who knows where his career would have taken him.
 23. Why bass? Well I'd sooner play bass than French Horn, and I don't like a French Horn, come to think of it... I don't like nothing French, me!.
 24. As few have said Jaco obviously liked his signature sound, i.e. the burpy bridge pickup played right by the bridge gave him that highly rhythmic popping syncopated sound that he played with the tone control half choked, I am sure if he was still with us today, and only if he would have snapped out of his drinking habit and finally "man upped" or matured, he would probably be a great band conductor, arranger and would be owning 1000's of different basses, however sadly in his last year of life he was so thrashed that he found it difficult to hold on to that one bass he had left (The bass of doom as it is known) because it was regularly left in pawn shops for him to pay his "filthy habits" Just like Charlie Parker used to do with his Saxophone.
