That £14 strap thing would be cool, but I don't have a problem with the clip.
Well, depending on the strap's thickness it can be an issue, the receiver keeps sliding down and won't stay in place, I am clipping it to my trousuers back pocket at the mo' -
I'm sory GW but i didn't understand your reply. Are you saying the ext cab (neo) sounds better than the ceramic in the combo? I've tried the 110 combo and loved it and tried the cab from the combo linked to my Shuttle and loved it even more. I'm thinking in ordering the ext cab but i was affraid it wouldn't sound as good as the ceramic cab. Can you make a quick description of both? Cheers
Yes it does, what I meant, and you will notice as well, that the neo cab definately has better dynamic response, it's punchier and more defined in the mid to low range, the 2 together work perfectly, but if you try the head with either speakers you will realize what I mean.

Life expectancy of vacuum tubes / valves?
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you amp sounds bad, have a rebias before changing tubes, it drifts with time as they wear in. I think too many good valves get replaced when they've actually just reached a stable point.
Thanks I will remember this... but so far this is what happened, I had my bass plugged in and while I was playing the phone went off and I turned the volume down on the bass and got on a long conversation that lasted about 2 hours. All the while the amp was on, the bass plugged in and just the volume on the bass was totally muted. As I was talking on the phone I could hear the mobile phone interference you get when a phone is too close to a speaker, a radio, or a stereo system. I had to ignore what I was hearing because the conversation I was having was taking most of my attention. When I finally put the phone down I heard the amp making static intermittent noise, I turned the phone completely off and the noise continued, I put the amp on stand by, unplugged the bass, tried a different cable /different bass and still the same. I thought the tubes had had it. So I turned the amp off, let it cool down for a good 15 minutes and with an antistatic cloth, I removed each valve and cleaned the outside with the cloth, never touched them with my fingers as I've heard that they are as delicate as halogen light and grease from your fingers can cause them to burn a heath spot, so again I fitted them all back, made sure they all fitted firmly in the socket. Wiped them again, turned the amp on, waited a minute for the valves to warm up again, plugged the same bass back in, turned the stand-by on, and as if by magic that static noise finally disappeared. The only thing I can imagine is that dust must have caused some static or something, but one thing is for sure, after I cleaned them and fitted them back firmly it's not made a single bit of noise since. So far, so good and it's been 2 days since I've done that and it's still fine. Finger crossed. -
How do these systems work with fx? Eg i have a deep impact, mastatron and mammoth and im not sure if these would behave with wireless. I used to have a samson one but found it was abit pointless at the time.
You put them in between the receiver output and the amp input or better still through the effects loop. -
That being said the tone of the Bongo is very hi-fi (even more so than my Status Streamline) and for a 9V system it is stupidly hot.
You mean 18V surely?
I'm pretty confident you won't be disappointed in the long run. I've used the G30 since it first came out and have converted both guitarists in my band along the way - none of us have ever had a problem with it as a system, even with three of them in use together. You have to get used to the very slight time-lag if you go walkabout off stage like I do, but it doesn't take long to compensate. A pair of decent alkaline AAs tend to last about 6 to 8 hours of constant use depending on brand; have to admit I thought that was either in the manual or the advertising somewhere, but it's true nonetheless. In terms of battery drain over time, the signal stays true until it cuts out from what we've seen.
Thank you, useful to know! -
Hi. Good to see you're enjoying it! Didn't know you were on here, you should have mentioned -Alex GuitarGuitar Epsom
Ah see? small world... you shouldn't have given up the secret and let people guess which store I was. . spoil sport. So which one are you, the one with the big rings through your ear or are you the the strawberry blonde geezer? Or are you Abby the lass? Very nice store by the way, guys and dolls, go check it out, plenty basses, gear, amps, gizmo's and the store is huge and well laid out. oh and the drummers are confined to a remote area you can just about smell them if you walk past them, so you're safe! -
This is a new wireless system by LINE6 and it's supposed to be an improvement over the Radio VHF signal transmission wireless made so far, this new system is a 24-bit digital conversion system, and more advanced than bluetooth. It is simple to set up and install and there are 6 channels and 3 Cable Tone simulation modes, 1) 15" Cable 2) 30" Cable and 3) Off or direct. Here are the full specs: http://uk.line6.com/relay/compare.html Manual: http://l6c.scdn.line6.net/data/l/0a0600721...-%20English.pdf First thing I have noticed from unpacking it is how light the receiver is and easy to connect. It won't weigh down your strap and once is on you'll never notice it's there, ahh the freedom effect is great to experience for once, no more cable to tread on and to keep kicking with your feet both at home or gigging. Ok, that's all well and good, but how does it really sound like? Well it is very very transparent as one would expect, I have swapped back and forward from cable to wireless a good 20 times on and off, on and off cause I am very hard to convince and yeah, blast me, it works very well, no complaints, the wireless sound just as the cable does with no audible unpleasantness so far. However I have only tried it in the store and here at home and if you move too far out of range, it will start to fart but this happened when my amp was downstairs in the living room and I was upstairs in the bedroom at the other end of the house, or... all the way at the bottom of my garden which is 120" long, my mate said it started to fart when I went past the 100" mark and we measured it, and funny enough if you read the specs it does say 100 foot is the max range on this G30 model so on that they are spot on. Anyway playing it in the same room as the amp / receiver, I can't fault it for either noise nor loss of signal compared to the cable, so I have to admit this new digital system really works well. I'll give it a week to express my final result and to see if the battery wear makes much different to the signal over time and of course how long does the 2 AA last because it doesn't say anywhere on the manual. Oh no that would have been to easy for LINE 6 to share that information, so that is one I'll have to find out for myself. Here are the unpacking pics: Here is me just getting ready to test it in the store today (I haven't plugged it in yet I was tuning the bass then), can you guess in which store in London I am, it's a new store only opened 3 weeks ago.
Any opinions on the extension cab? Is it better than than the cab in the combo? Probably ordering one this week
Yes if you use it together with the combo you get the full 500W and yes it soulds a lot better specially because the extention one has a neodymium loaded speaker in it.

Life expectancy of vacuum tubes / valves?
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thank you both gentlemen, and yes it was a typo on my side the power tubes are 4 x EL84 and not EL34. Sorry. -
Does the Pope wear a funny hat?

I am a very happy Promethean owner, would not part with it for love nor money, however it does suffer a bit in the speaker department due to the small size, but there is a solution I have found: you need a decent speaker simulator pedal, and if you really want it to sound proper and melt your soul, put one of these in front of it, satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. You won't believe the improvement that pedal gives to the mighty Promethean.

Say you are using your all tube bass head day in day out for practice and then you take to every gig, studio work etc, how long are your tubes supposed to last before serious wear sign appear and you need to replace them? My Ashdown LB 30 (Drophead) uses 2 x JJ ECC83S, 1 x JJ ECC82 in the preamp section and 4 x JJ EL34 in the power section, now I have been looking for prices and chubes ain't flipping cheap!! Best privce I've found for a set of 4 x matched JJ EL34 comes to £60, 2 x JJ ECC83S's are £34 and 1 x JJ ECC82 is £10 = total revalve cost £104! I've had this amp now for 13 months and it's been used a lot so far, does anyone know how long will the tubes last more or less?
-
The best 6 strings in my views is one with one less string, the high C in this case. I could never get on with that so it's only fivers and 4's for me.

Im looking at a 5HH.
Not long ago, the Gallery in Camdem had a Burgundy Rolls 4 strings HH well lived with battle scars for £850, I went back the following week and asked Alex if it sold but he said the owner took it back and its on ebay now here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MUSIC-MANN-BASS-GUIT...=item4aaca6ee51 Beware it is well lived!
