2. Just Kissed My Baby - The Meters Its got groove, its got a very simple line and things build up nice with each instrument coming in bit by bit . Also it gets a little interesting in the chorus and you get to throw some shapes when hitting them notes. Damn I feel like dancing now awwwwwwwwwwwwoh! Yeah! Uh Uh! HuH!
3. Mokl The tone, professionalism and lets be honesty the quality of your writing skills, I think would attest to your integrity and Im confident were I to be a local in your area you would be setting up my bass! There is a guy here in Edinburgh, Axe Management, who is humble and decent and I would imagine to be equally on a par with you in terms of knowledge and professionalism and he summed it up best. I mentioned that I'd recommended him to my old guitarist (before having went myself but due to the quality of the email comms we'd had he seems very genuine) and he just rolled his eyes. "Ahh yes...the SG guy!" This tech is a huge SG fan and has 3 70's models that virtually play themselves! This guitarist had asked for a set up on his guitar which he thought was already great (it had never been set up since it was bought and played really bad) "I just want it tidied up before a gig" and then couldnt 't understand why the set up took more than a few minutes! He also needed a repair to a blown power amp. He was quoted a price and then went off to find the internet forum etc and see if he was getting ripped off by the tech??? Martin from AM is a qualified electrical engineer who has worked as a roadie for many bands and been round the country on tours as the tech on tour so to speak. The guitarist then barraged the tech with emails and phone calls saying "I have found this on the net and this...... and this........." Fortunately he was happy with the set up but his first thought was he was being ripped off. Sounds like the guy in you initial post was a little defensive that he bought a piece of crap and rather appear like a fool and admit that he had bought a stinker, ignored your advice and sided with the shop to save face maybe??? However he will now be cursed with a crap set up. I'd ask one thing from your experience if you EVER see that bass appear in the for sale section on this forum PLEASE give us a warning I'll finish by saying don't let one mans lack of foresight mar all the satisfied customers you have. He who choses to ignore good advice, often ends up on his ass!
4. Hey its a question bump.... How do you run this cab - seems like there are options for the 12' to be down facing, side facing or should you desire up facing? Have you tried it out in these different positions? Cgeers
5. Played my first gig with a new band last night www.jumppressa.com There are 6 of us with guitars changes (acoustics, electrics with altered tuning) keys, 3 vocal, 3 guitars etc. so you can imagine how thrilled the sound guy was One band were kicked out due to their drummer being under age and collared by the bouncers when seen drinking some contraband and then a 2nd band didnt play for reasons still unknown...... So all in all a good show - decent crowd and no doubt would have been bigger had the other two bands actually played. I was trying out a new rig (see signature) and it was totally reliable, great tone and presence on stage and the sound guy was pleased. Threw in a few christmas covers given the JPA twist and they sounded great. If any of you cats are around Edinburgh in Feb come check us out - dates to be confirmed. I would like to mention the promoter, who's name I shall exclude as it could have been an off night for them, who really, having spoke to them, should know better. Gig was under promoted, not in any listings papers sites and while they said the venue had a responsibility to do that and thats why they paid the venue why take that chance? Im standing there last night trying to understand why having brought 30- 40 ppl to watch the gig we come away making a loss! Then running over how they had poor communication, didnt help co-ordinate back line and then tried calling us literally as we arrived with the bass rig to say there was a bass combo on site. They 'didn't know' if there would be a sound check even though we sent them a list of our set up, explaining about acoustic guitar and keys needing DI etc. expecting them to have forwarded this to the venue sound guy. Said the venue had changed sound guy but never though to get his email or phone number and make contact ( they arrange gigs in this place all the time) Then had the cheek to say we ran over by 5 mnutes on our set - this is after 2 bands pulled out and they had an hour to fill!!! To all would be promoters don't expect anyone to do promotion on your behalf - if the listing sites get the same info twice then your sure that your gig will be promoted - if those same papers don't get any then your gig will not be promoted and you WILL lose money. Band appreciate good communication and if you can offer to help co-ordinate things then do - most bands will network among themselves and left to their own devices will manage back line themselves if the venue doesn't Still gig went well but why should we have to put up with inept promoters.
6. Platypus Of course I forgot to send you a pick of the new s/p on. Now all I need is a black one for those death metal gigs
7. Had great service too and my next set of strings will be via these guys fo' sho!
8. Hi there To describe the sound can be a mine field but .......as a Lakland Forum poster described it when someone asked what pick up was in his Skyline 08 BG? "If its the fattest sounding p/u you've ever hear its the Lakland p/u!" This is my Minkster with a lovely tort dress on. Ain't she purdy! What I'll say about the tone is that this bass sounds great through the range of the tone and volume knobs. It responds well and you can hear the difference i.e. if you have the tone and volume opened up on full and use a pick (with my preferred amp setting) I get a really nice edge to the tone - great for emulating that ampeg tone. Rolling back the tone knob and the volume slightly and playing with fingers yields a thicker, fatter tone. I basically set my preamp one way for the gig and adjust my playing style and the controls on the bass to get different sounds. It is very rewarding. The neck is great and the spacing is good for me. If you get the chance play one of these basses!
9. Had one of the Rivera era 80's Bassman amps rated about 18watts and it was great sounding amp but never loud enough for serious gigs - these seem good but a lot of dime considering what you can get for your money these days. Sound good though
10. Hey you should get down to the room this w/e if you can - wecan hook up the ampeg and the Matamp via the WT1000 that should dish out plenty of watts Cab looks great - if it sounds as good as i think I may invest in one in the new year also.
11. Jacko bought a pre off me a few months back. Really nice guy, some lovely basses and a pleasure to deal with. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or deal with him again.
12. Been there and done that Guitarist thought he was great - couldn't bend a note properly and thought he was superior to the drummer who to be honest wasnt that great. Problem was he always talked thrash to the drummer if he messed up and then would say things like 'you and me understand music' etc all the while he was playing in drop D and couldn't tell you the names of the notes he was playing - this song is 9 7 7 5 9 7 5 3 ??? WTF is tht a fone number? This was from the guy who understood music. The best bit was when I made a suggestion to try a riff so I took his guitar (which had the worst set up ever - i actually believe he got it new that way from the shop and never had a set up done on it which is a minus point alone) so he came back to the next practice telling me he had learned the riff and proceeded to play something i have never heard or played before... I tried to correct him and his excuse and I sh*t you not was....'maybe you played it wrong or forgot how your song went when you showed it to me yesterday because this is what you showed me to play. I flipped out and asked him just what type of mental health problem he had that would make him think I had taught him the song wrong just so I could correct him and quickly left the band thereafter! Some people!
13. Graham bought a bass from me recently - really good communications, paid quickly and was sound as a pound! Hope you enjoy the bass as much as I did Highly recommended
14. Didn't even think to add as I wasn't aware it was here! Mark is a top bloke who is a pleasure to deal with - honest reliable and great communications. Showed great patience and it was appreciated. Highly recommended
15. Did some business recently and it was painless. Will happily recommend to other users.

Thanks and likewise it was a pleasure dealing with you too. I was getting the bass set up and the tech fitted it for me. He was very impressed with the quality. Top seller with good communication and a fair price.
17. Although I sold one of these recently it was more to do with the fact I prefer the P Bass tone/sound. The DJ bass is an absolute killer bass. Comfortable, classy and a pleasure to play. In regards to Lakland they make a damn fine bass guitar and my P Bass is a lakland - bought from these very forums unseen as the quality of the DJ convinced me to take the risk - bump
18. OK so by pure chance my mate got a new mac book last week and posted up some video of old gig footage. http://www.hangonvoltaire.com/ If you scroll down to the Club Flicknife Resents... bit and you can see all the glorious footage of a gig I waffled on about here on another post. Its not a blistering display of bass skills of a treatise on tone but that was one of my most fun nights out ever. Plus that old P bass was great Public Health Warning - the 'singer was a frontman not a singer so the vocals should be considered in this context My personal fav bit is the all female stage invasion! I hope you enjoy
19. The lehle dual looks interesting - Im guessing you can run two different amps and switch between them or have them both on? My thinking is this and I'd appreciate your input: Setting up my wee line 6 studio 110 for a dirt sound going thru DI or mic out to the desk to be blended with my clean tone so I keep the bottom end intact and have the dirt sit like a creamy layer of delicious on top? How did you run the Lehle out of interest bump
20. I played a Fender '78 for a few years having got swapped from a thin, fast Ibanez SR something with active pick ups. The Ibanez was much easier to play, had more sounds, not all of them good I should add, and was a fair price. The P sounded better. Recently got back to playing and got a Jazz bass, Lakland DJ model - lovely bass and a nice sound but for me rolling off the volume and tone controls created a different sound but to my ears not a useable sound. I always thought it sounds too jazz like (strange that)! Switched back to a P bass (Lakland BG) and its just got that sound! I roll back the volume and it mellows a little but doesn't lose anything, I roll back the tone control and it gives me a deeper flavour. This bass, and a P bass in general, is like one of those really good sound men you occasionally find at gigs. I play with my fingers and it says oh ok your looking something classic sounding, I tweak the tone and volume control rolling them back a little here and there and it delivers the tone. I turn up the volume and tone control and use a pick it just says oh yeah now you want that sound? no problem. Bam its edgy growly and all those good things you want from that type of tone. I find that a P bass is more useable across its volume and tone setting than that active Ibanez was. It might not have been all bells and whistles but we dont really need it do we? A P bass will do slap, it will do prog. It might not be as easy to play as on a custom this or that but you can and it will sound great all the time you do it. Simplicity is beautiful, a sunset, a kiss, a p bass. none of these things need to be complicated
21. These are super sweet and I've been really enjoying mine. Whole lot of tone in those little boxes. Looking forward to running it thru a power amp with the band and hearing it in context good price too bump
22. I should probably just use some drumming software but does anyone use a drum machine for practice? I'd be keen to try out different time signatures etc but like most things there is so much choice! Any help would be appreciated and recommend software too if you have tried any. Cheers
23. Yeah nice to see groove being considered not acrobatic's Doddy I respect the comment that these list's are often sh*te but its hardly that serious and meant more as a way to spend some time wasting on the web. Also its a way to be exposed to other genres of music and to some missed gems. I stumbled across the list looking for some good covers songs for a Christmas gig back home and not only have I found some top tunes to play but also some classic's to spin between bands. In its defence its not as bad as the Channel 4's offerings of Top 100 shows.
