1. It's all yours dude. Cheers
2. Both EBS and Bass Gremlin both gone thanks for all the PM's and interest.
3. For fear of repeating myself from another post I just hooked up an Ernie Earplugs Regenerative Feedback Processor - its a passive pedal requiring no batteries- that can adda synth like quality to your dirty tone and allows you to switch it in and out and retain the tone of your dirt pedal. For me its been quite fun playing with the volume control and hearing how that affects the tone. Its maybe not he perfect replication but for about £25 quid 2nd hand you might find it more fun and much cheaper than a synth pedal that won't track the notes etc. or certainly a component in a sound that allows you your stamp of originality OK vid link added below and please dont comment on the playing especially when I decide to 'slap' Should give a good indication of the messed up tones though - I'd be happy to have comment on that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o3cnfKiEe4
4. Whats your budget? There are many good options but i guess its what you have the dime for. I finally giot round to trying my ernie earplugs feedback regenerator pedal today hooked up to a dirt box and it was such a fun experience It will add something to your dirt sound - if its actually what you're after is another question but for a relatively inexpensive box you get your normal drive sound plus your f**ked up sound which adds a dimension to your filth. I'd recommend those who are after a synth type tone to their dirt to check them out if you get a chance to. I'll try and post a link to the video I made (once I upload it to you tube). Good luck with the pedal hunt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o3cnfKiEe4
5. While I'll fully support your sale Im after a clear out of stuff and rebuilding the rig as it were. I have a few options but they all involve getting rid of the lot and starting again. Good luck now go sell those cabs baby!
6. It sure is Purdy! Pre holiday bump and I got a quote from courier that postage of the flightcased ampeg would wOrk out between 30-40 quid. Not bad so have a think then good people!
7. Alpha pot's aint bad either - some of my gear have had them and they feel as one would imagine a nice pot should. Smooth but a reassuring resistance so you know its there. Plus they sound good across their taper.
8. I emailed bass centre and was advised that i should get a big amp - the standard bass head being the SVT which was rated at 300w but Im still drawn to this EBS amp. i like the idea that I can use playing dynamic's (to a point ) to coax cleaner tones but still have that edge - again £900 is a big risk if it turns out to be 'under powered' for the 'real world'. I can't help thinking that at the gig's I play a solid 60-70 tube watts would be ample coming out a 4 ohm cab. My only concern would be would it be under powering a 500-700w cab? iIwelcome your collective knowledge.
9. Our guitarist convinced us to do a charity give for Amnesty that his dad runs every year. It turned out it was at the opposite side of the country which included a train ride, car journey and finished off with ferry ride all with gear in tow. We kinda knew it would be a road trip and had free accommodation and food for doing the show but we played to a very unappreciative crowd ( we didnt care if they thought we sucked but the hall emptied as the band before us were playing trad music, played longer than they were supposed to and the crowd were knackered and all went outside to get air, drink, cool down and get stoned. The killer was all the food was gone when we arrived, two of the band had to sleep in a converted bus that was baltic and we were all up again at 5.30am to catch the early ferry home and I had to work a 8 hour shift that afternoon. Oh yeah it cost me an annual leave day too It will take a lot of convincing for me to do another charity show that isn't a local bus ride away
10. +1 Sir Duke I recall sitting down one saturday morning, pot of coffee brewed and bass in hand and thinking right!Lets go! Took much quicker than expected. On a completely opposite end of the scale I find some of the Jamerson stuff initially sounds really hard, then you nail one phrase or passage and then only to realise its on a whole different level of playing and you would never make those note choices not even at gunpoint. I cant believe how much milage he got between the open strings and 5th fret.
11. This bass has just been sold but... Ian I'd have to check its origins - I notice I didn't list that in the spec but yeah I'm sure they all come from the same place Webby The neck has a jazz profile so its much slimmer than my USA P bass but for my preference the USA is smoother, it's got rolled edges and feels instantly at home for me. I just prefer the dimensions to the VM plus going back to the P4 after the P5 is a wonderful slinky experience!! I believe the amp is a Vox VR? It belongs to one of the other bands that use the room and I rarely look at it. Its a nice amp though - looks the part eh! Sadly the bass has been sold but thank you for the interest. Gavin
12. Oh and I do have both the original name badges but I've removed them from the cabs. They will be fitted again for the new owner. G
13. Aguilar cab pictures added below. Some of the little tears to the tolex - all superficial - can be seen and naturally they do not affect tone. I've also shown the size of the cab in relation to an Ampeg 410 and an Ashdown 410. It's smaller then the Ampeg but Im guessing most other 410 cabs are! Any questions just drop me a PM Thanks for reading.
14. Hey guys and gals. Up for your viewing pleasure is a...... Fully flight cased USA SVT Classic 410 HLN (500w@4ohm) for the princely sum of £400 ovno. Standard rock (and everything else) cab. Its a beast and covers all your bases with ease. Handles a low B with ease and has full adjustable tweeter. There is some peeling to the tolex on the lower left corner (or right depending where you are standing) from where its been in and out of the flight case tray but thats purely cosmetic and could be stuck down with some glue - I might do that this w/e just for fun! Some more action on the covering beside the hadnle on the left side also but again purely cosmetic. Willing to sell the flight case on its own but its gonna have to be pick up only or meet within an hour of Edinburgh (assuming it will fit in my mates boot!) Aguilar DB410 (700w@8ohm) Im really liking this cab and currently it's 8ohm rating isn't a worry as I can really push it with my power amp at 8ohms. I A/b'd the two cabs yesterday and think that the Ampeg has a little more low end whereas the Aguilar has a little more 'clarity?' but you know how subjective these things can be. I recently played through a 215 rig and after hearing ao much about the DB112's as a pair I'd be keen to try out that set up plus its easier to shlep to gigs being smaller than the 410. As ever gimme a pm for more info and pic's of the Aguilar will follow soon as I get them updated on my phone - later today for sure as Im off to do that now! Thanks for reading
15. I think of it like wearing a helmet when on the bike or a seat belt in the car - it that important! Once you try out ear plug you'll realise just how much of an improvement they can make to sound quality and your enjoyment of a gig. Had to leave the Belini gig a few weeks ago as the vocals were very shrill - can't believe I left home without the plugs - i normally keep two or twee sets around the flat and practice room. I'll keep an eye on amazon for any discounts and them snap up a spare pair - in the bass case, my gig bag with pedals etc at home so there should always be a pair close by.
16. That looks mega. I'd happily be seen in public with that ginger beast *Disclaimer* I find the hot chicks with red hair really attractive
here you go took me a few seconds to find in google http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:dvWarZd...15f.jpg&t=1
17. I played through a 215 speaker last night and really enjoyed the sound. Plus it was my first ever 5 string gig and Um certainly interested in giving some 15's a go!
18. Picked up a P5 from James and it was a delight to do the deal. Hassle free and a nice bloke. BAss was well packed and hand delivered. Now thats service Buy with complete confidence.
19. Hey Harry Welcome and Im guessing it was you bought the Aggie gear from via the bay. I did a deal recently with Harry via ebay Great guy and good comm's. Might be new here but defo reliable.
20. Hey just saw this post. I use a valve drive along with a Fulltone Bass Drive. The Valve Drive has two settings: vintage and modern. The vintage tone is maybe not what you may expect in that you still hear your bass sound but with this undertone of dirt. I think its got to do with the way the pedal is designed and how it routes the signal negative feedback loop or some wonderful jargon like that. Its a great sound and really adds fullness to your basic tone. The modern sound is more errm modern! Its more focused and tight and will certainly help you cut through in a live mix. I dont use this pedal for major high gain and I will say that the manual suggested settings didn't work for me at all. I just set if flat ad then moved the controls until it sounded right for what I wanted it to do. The valve drive is a great pedal for adding dimension to the sound, not just dirt - in that context I use it for adding oomph to certain parts of songs and have it set up to give some grit to the tone along with a bit of a boost to the lows. I normally kick it in when the bass line need to stand out a little more but I have to same I'm always tempted to leave it on all the time In conjunction with a second dirt box it can give a huge bass sound and although expensive I've recently sold my pre amp and use the valve drive along with a DB924 and bass drive into my power amp and it sounds great. Its really handy to be able to carry valve tone in your gig bag and if the amp at your next gig has tha ability to bypass its tone stack you have a valve rig at every show. BGM review attached http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/index.ph...catid=39:pedals
21. I've got to move on some stuff on as the end of the year approaches so up for grabs is my Vintage Modified P bass. The spec is below: Model Name Vintage Modified Precision Bass - Olympic White Body Agathis Neck Maple, C-Shape, Fingerboard Rosewood, 9.5” Radius (241 mm) No. of Frets 20 Medium Jumbo Bridge Standard 4-Saddle Pickguard 3-Ply Black/White/Black Scale Length 34” (864 mm) Width at Nut 1.625” (41.3 mm) The bass plays really nice and is ideally suited to those who favour a Jazz neck profile. Its slim and fast and my band mates prefer the feel of this to my USA P bass (but I love that neck profile Im more P than J myself) I've recently rewired the Squire with new, quality wire, fitted it with CTS pots and I took the p/u from my '08 P bass (which I replaced with a Nordstrand NP4)and whacked that in there too to complete the package. Finally I added a new Sprague 'orange drop' cap to replace the little lentil sized thing that was originally in there. The USA p/u sounds great and is slightly hotter than the NP4 - a great P sound with thump and clarity depending on the tone knob position which now sounds great through the whole range of it taper from bright and upfront to deep and thumpy. I'm asking for £225 which is a great deal but do feel free to make offers close to that. Im not after any trades as I have some stuff incoming that I need to gather cash for. Im happy to split the P+P with the buyer should that be a deal breaker! Ideally this bass would be great as a 'beginner+' bass - cheaper than a MIM and better feeling and sounding- but wouls equally be at home in the arsenal of the regular gigging player due to it's light weight, great tone and playability. I have a 4 string I love to play and a 5 due any day now so I need to sadly let this one go. Get in touch and I'll get pic's up tomorrow. Im happy to answer any other questions via PM. Cheers
22. Got a little noise box which was a very quick and trouble free transaction. Cheers and looking forward to creating some sonic mayhem G
