  1. Cheers for the info. What's your experience of Musikraft? The reason for looking at them over Warmoth is that I want a flatter radius than Warmoth provide on a bass neck.
  2. With any luck. The end result will be something aesthetically close to this, minus the covers.
  3. Evening all, Having seen a friend build two awesome guitars (a tele and a strat) in a similar vein, I've decided that the time has come for me to build myself a P bass. It started to come together today. I've been watching MJT P bass bodies on eBay. I missed out on a few, most notably an Aztec gold one, but an ice blue metallic one came up which took my fancy. Less then a week later it arrived (from the USA no less) and here it is in all its glory. It's lightly relic'd, there's some checking that's visible in certain lights, some missing finish and some interesting fading. I'm really happy with the general vibe that it has. The plan is fairly simple. It's going to get a high quality neck (potentially Shuker, but maybe from Musikraft in the US), probably in roasted maple. A combination of Gotoh and hipshot hardware and an anodised gold scratch plate for that late 50s look. I'm still yet to make up my mind on what to do about a pickup, there are too many really good options. I thought I'd document the project so here is the first post.
  4. Couple of fish in there 👌
  5. This looks great to me. The shape of the copper foil gives an interesting Rickenbacker 330 vibe to the whole thing.
  6. Love these! I have an ambition to mod something with multi coils and a filter pre amp at some point. This is definitely adding to the temptation.
  7. Dang that's pretty. Natural with blocks is one of my favourite colour schemes for a Jazz. Great grain on this one too. Congratulations!
  8. I've had a few SRs, they're second to none for playability and all bat well over their price. I'm sure you'll love it!
  9. I don't think there has ever been a 'bad' SR. I've played various models over the years but owned a an SR605, an SRX705 and an SR1200e. They're all quite different but have sounded great, been super versatile and played incredibly well. I wouldn't worry too much about age but you'll definitely get more for your money second hand. Hope that helps.
  10. Cream
  11. I swooned over these and the EDA in my teenage years. Lovely looking bass.
  12. I'd be really interested to play this. The pickups are a pair of fishman fluence back to back, looks like the 2 band preamp and switch for the 3 voices. Also, it's hard to tell from the photo but I wonder what the scale length is. Sleep token use some really low tunings so I wouldn't be surprised if it was 35" or longer.
  13. This is very cool. What's the story with the shape? Is it a one off or a first of its kind?
  14. Wow I can't imagine what they'd be like with a pre, mine are in a passive bass. They're definitely aggressive, but the basses main purpose is distorted tones in a thrashy hardcore so it works. The bass does the Frank Bello thing very nicely.
  15. I have Sandberg black label pickups in my TT4. I'd echo @TRBboys experience on a pickup change. I've found the black labels a completely different kettle of fish. Less clinical and more organic.
  16. Good lord that's a great looking instrument. Congrats on your impeccable taste.
  17. I love the simplicity of this. What a great looking instrument.
  18. This looks amazing! I'd really like to do something like this.
  19. If Jeremy Beadle were a bass.
  20. I'm discovering that already. I spent a few hours playing at low volume yesterday evening and was amazed at how easy it was to coax basically any sound out of it with the EQ engaged and how sensitive it is to playing style. I'm super impressed.
  21. I've been finding that my Markbass LMIII doesn't like the relatively high gain sounds that I'm throwing at it now that I've found myself in a Hardcore punk band. From what I can gather I've been overloading the preamp which causes it to cut out. Anyway, this ABM 600 Evo iv came up locally on market place, a few messages later a price was agreed and the seller even offered to deliver it as he was passing anyway. It's in basically perfect condition and seems to have only been lightly used. I've only tested it at home so far, I've got to say I'm super impressed by what I've heard at low volumes, but the real test will come in the new year.
  22. I'm just here to investigate whether PC stood for Personal Computer or Politically Correct.
  23. I don't need two SR1200s, I don't need two SR1200s, I don't need two SR1200s, I don't need two SR1200s.....
