I did consider getting a different pre-amp put in at one point...but then I bought another bass and blew all my savings

Some bands use them around here, some not. It doesn't seem to have cause any negative impressions with the audiences. The only time it niggles me is if the singer has had a pop at the rest of the band for not learning their parts...then I tend to stare sternly at their music stand with all the words there for them, hmmmm

Simply trying to get potential band members to think of doing something different is a monumental task. All I hear is 'we must include the crowd pleasers'...at which point my heart sinks and I tend to walk. It's either that or suggestions so obscure even the original artist would struggle remember they recorded it. Classic rock and indie standards are all they're interested in

I don't anchor my thumb permanently on the pick up so as I go to pluck the A my thumb has dropped to the E, muting it... my plucking finger, like others have said, will also come to stop on the E.

Saw them play 20 odd years ago at The Lemon Grove in Exeter. They were supported by Dodgy. An excellent night, if a little odd...but the oddness was nothing to do with the band

The band may have been able to do things differently in order to have lost less/break even or maybe see a small profit. However, what it showed is what I've read elsewhere, touring is very expensive. The only people making money from tours are the ones who were successful under the old model. For new bands, this supposed new model of making anything from tours is a myth. This becomes an even bigger problem if your fan base is predominantly abroad. The economics of touring abroad and be profitable for new bands....?

There seems to be a trend lately with people I've been playing with not to wear any shoes...it's not something that sits well with me so I've tended to move on :/
