1.
The local timber merchant stock Birch Ply. I asked if they stocked "void free Baltic Birch or similar" and got this as a quote... 12244122BIRPLY 12mm 2440 x 1220 Birch Plywood BB/BB £31.49+VAT
If that's actually Baltic Birch then it's a good price. Just bear in mind (and I'm likely to offend someone here, but it comes from personal experience) when it comes to dealing any company that has 'merchant' in the title you have to be very specific and make sure you're not fobbed off with something else. Personally I'd pay for the Baltic Birch. It has a nicer finish and is better quality all round. It may be your first build but you may find you make a really good job of it and think afterwards 'oh arse I wish I'd made it out of BB'
2. As a first build, Bill's Simplexx cabs are a great starter. It's about as straightforward as you can get I'd say. The plans are very detailed, got great tips and advice on the build process and provide a number of driver options to suit taste and/or budget.
3.
It must be a seriously flappy string? Also having your EQ set to make the F# audible must compromise the tone over the rest of the strings. I don't mean to be critical of ERBs, I play a sixer myself, I just don't really see a low F# being of any practical use
Apparently one has to have strings of the thickness you'd expect of cables keeping suspension bridges up...and it's all guitarists fault for wanting to dable in very low tunings.
4.
Is a low F# even audible?
It is, but...it's way down there somewhere. A guy on another forum was asking about tuning to low E which is more or less on the limit of what the human ear can hear. All this assumes you can find cabs designed to handle such low frequencies.
5.
Does that mean that someone read this thread to you and then you dictated the reply? Same thing. If you have time to pick up the instrument, you have time to learn. In fact, you don't even need to pick up the instrument every time. Its not as hard as people think-I could have you reading basics in 15 minutes, and the rewards are great.
You're making huge assumptions about someone who you don't know, know nothing of the other priorities in their live or their strengths and weaknesses. I made a statement about my situation, I didn't criticise anyone for learning to or being able to read notation, and I certainly didn't call for a response that could be inferred as patronising and arrogant.
6.
Written speech is OK, though..? There's a paradox here somewhere, shirley...
No paradox at all.
7. Written music is an alien concept to me. My ears hear music not my eyes . Besides that i simply don't have time to put to it
8. He's at the Islington Academy on the 16th this month...I can't get to it either. Gutted
9.
Is this sort of thing recognised in the world of drumming I wonder, or does it just get passed off as the drummer's style. I'm thinking of the difference between, say, Charlie Watts and Keith Moon. One is pretty steady and just laying down a solid rhythm with the odd fill, the other is one long fill.
Go on to a drum forum, they're like the wild west of the internet. Make us lot look like we attend nursery school.
10. I was there as well. Sheehan really suffered that night. On his facebook page he said he hadn't played such a hot gig in ages and that he was near exhaustion at the end.
11. And he plays bass, and does bass solos. Frustratingly talented @2mins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nxFzN8OaL0&index=86&list=UUFsuTwk0dVjXu6z7UHKeC7A
12. More people need to like Richie Kotzen so he'll play more shows in the Uk, so I'm at least in with a fighting chance to go and see him play. That's all
13.
Not many are disciplined enough to just play roots
I am. But it's also aided by my complete lack of ability to play anything but roots
14.
'Dakota' by Stereophonics... Boring as they come and the only song in the covers set that I actually hate and would love to never hear again. Tiny variations but essentially just root note playing.
There are variations? No one told me Where are they? Actually don't worry, I don't play this song...phew! (I actually said no to a rehearsal recently when I saw Dakota was on their set list...and Sex on Fire)
15.
I'd much rather buy a physical product than download. When I download something I never feel like I actually own a copy of the album.I had a hard drive break recently, and I lost literally 1000s of albums and movies and tv shows-that's never happened with my cds. I buy a lot of albums online (thanks Amazon Marketplace), but I still like going in to a store and looking for things.I like the feeling of looking through a rack and finding an album that maybe I'd forgotten about and wouldn't search for. Let's be honest, you can buy pretty much anything without leaving your desk but I still enjoy actually going outside and doing stuff.
Yep. Buying a download feels like you've got a ropey copy of it, like when you used to give your mate a tape to record whatever new album they'd bought. It's not for me. Give me a Cd etc. I also don't like MP3, it sounds dead to me, it's got no sparkle. Unfortunately my nearest HMV is 40 miles away.
16. The Peavey for me. It has the added bonus that you'll never have to visit the gym...you'll do all the weight lifting you'll ever want to do lifting it.
17. I wish I had the cash for this. It's a great looking bass, unbelievable it's not been snapped up already.. Come on someone!
18. Would an Encore brand P bass take a Fender/Squier neck? Thinking of a project and I've got a 91 Squier neck that I like but need a body and thought maybe an Encore would do the job.
19.
Perhaps he should, it would be a wise and informed choice.
Sorry, bad humour on my part. The OP had already bought two hydrive 112's which sort of went unnoticed.
20. Has the OP considered a pair of identical 112s?
21. People actually want to play other instruments? This is all news to me
22. Awesome. (<--my favourite new word since watching the Lego Movie )
23. My situation is similar to Bilbo's. I live in the sticks and trying to find like minded musicians is nigh on impossible... even covers is difficult. Getting paid is a different matter...seems depend on whether the venue likes the look of your singer or you're a part of the local in crowd.
24.
Promoter "Can you supply your amp for the other bands to use?" You "No, sorry." Done.
^ This. Simple, to the point... winner.
