Pre-EB Stingray "bullet" truss rod won't move...Advice!?

Thanks for the replies guys (and sorry about the dual threads! ). I think it's off to the Gallery... -
Pre-EB Stingray "bullet" truss rod won't move...Advice!?
bakerster135 replied to bakerster135's topic in Bass Guitars
So, the advice is to loosen the truss rod, bend the neck yourself to the required relief (trying to allow for subsequent string tension) and then tighten up the rod again to hold the neck in that relief.
Thanks for this. Not sure I'm brave enough to try this myself though...Considering my lack of technical skill (and knowing my luck!) I'd probably end up putting an irreversible twist in it or something! Think I may need to take it to the tech before I try anything like this!
Will it loosen or is it seized? If seized try dribbling a little wd40 in there being careful with the finish? Worked on a mex j I had once... if not seized...
Didn't try it the other way, just took the allen key out and left it! Will try it later on though, and will get the WD40 out if it's the case! Thanks Andy -
Pre-EB Stingray "bullet" truss rod won't move...Advice!?
bakerster135 posted a topic in Bass Guitars
After having my Stingray a few months, the neck relief has gotten to the point where it needs a little tighten (forward bow, about 1mm gap at 7th fret with capo on 1st/fretting 21st). I got the allen key out today and tried to give it a little clockwise turn, but it won't budge...I put reasonable but not excessive force on it (read all the horror stories about snap nuts/cracked rods), but it won't shift at all! I'll likely be taking it to the Gallery to see what can be done, but just wanted to know whether anyone's experienced this before? If so, did you find any way around it? I know it could either be a stiff nut, or a maxed out rod, but if there's a simple way around it I'd rather save a few bob!... Any help will be muchly appreciated! Al -

Pre-EB Stingray - Replacement bolt/screw for battery cover

Can confirm that the new Classic bolts do fit the battery compartment of the old pre-eb models. Yay! :-) -
Fender Jazz and Fender Precision - Mexican or American?
bakerster135 replied to riviera_kid's topic in Bass Guitars
I have a MIM Precision I bought blind of the bay a few years ago... a 2002 model. Turned out an absolute peach. Did some minor modding, nothing drastic, mainly cosmetic 'cept I swapped out the machines for some 70's style. A super bass. £250
Ha, I had a 2004 MIM Jazz in Agave Blue that I got for £250 too! Amazing bass and came with Lindys in it, sounded amazing. Sold it to pay rent at uni -
Fender Jazz and Fender Precision - Mexican or American?
bakerster135 replied to riviera_kid's topic in Bass Guitars
I would suggest playing a load of them & buying the one that sounds & feels right for you, regardless of the branding/made in sticker.

Absolutely this.
+1. I've owned (and still own!) a number of Fender basses, Mex, Jap and US, and I would never buy a Fender bass without trying it out now. I've found the quality to be more spotty with Fender than any other manufacturer, and just because it says "Made in the USA" on the headstock (or custom shop on the back of it!) does not dictate that it will be better than a Mexican model! -
Pre-EB Stingray - Replacement bolt/screw for battery cover
bakerster135 replied to bakerster135's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for your advice Pete. Well I've contacted S&T and ordered a replacement plate (inc. screws). Bit drastic but I need the Stingray for Friday, will post here to let people know whether the classic screws fit pre-eb models! -
How are you getting on with the bass? Any soundclips?
It's excellent! Really powerful, growly sound, which amazing considering it has just one pickup. No soundclips yet, but my GF's away next weekend so I'll probably get the cab out and record some then!

Also, does anyone know if the Stingray Classic plate/screws fit the Pre-EB basses? -

Definitely cool (see my signature! ).

The wah he had (and uses on this performance) is the old Morley Power Wah Boost, which I believe he inherited from Cliff Burton. They look like this, and sound totally different to the modern Morley Power Wahs. The below will give you a pretty good idea of what that sounds like! ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfiOGyMy1ag
Growl is such a loose term as it means so many different things to different people - to me, growl is a Precision or Rick being driven hard (think Live at Leeds or early Rush)
See, to me that's "clank"!...

Neck: Maple Body: Maple Aguilar OBP-3 pre. Find a good sweet-spot and stick a Bartolini M4 pickup there. That is all.

Marinus bought my Spector Euro. Lovely, friendly chap, and great communication. He paid very quickly, arranged UPS pick-up (and provided calm assurance when I was worried they weren't going to turn up! ). A real asset to this community, and highly recommended!

The EHX Steel Leather might do what you want. It's not an overdrive/distortion, but a bass expander which provides more attack, and what could be described as "crunch".
-
Great stuff, lovely basses! May I suggest that you consider the Aguilar options (OBP-1, OBP-2, OBP-3) before choosing the tonepump. They're a lot better sounding to my ears, get closer to the US Spector sound, and will probably be cheaper than a tonepump anyway!

Low pass / envelope filter for thick subby synthy sound?
bakerster135 replied to mattyb's topic in Effects
I ended up grabbing a 3Leaf GR2 which sounds great but isn't exactly what I was looking for.... Would you guys rate the sound of the OC2 above an Octamizer? I have the latter but its definitely a different sound to the usual synth octave bass sound. Maybe I need to play with the filter knob a bit more to dial it in just right
Just get the Moog dude, it'll do exactly what you need. It is quite big, but not at all noisy. -
