1. Just bought a 3 Leaf pedal from Gareth. It was a really smooth transaction, really prompt responses to messages and a nice friendly attitude too. Would happily buy stuff from him again!
2. Hi, I have a single ticket for the Saturday of this year's V-Festival at Weston Park, Staffs. It was originally for a stag do, but the plans changed after I bought the ticket By the time I add fees to it, I'm looking to recover around £100 for the ticket, which I'll post next day recorded delivery as soon as it is in my possession. Cheers Mark
3. First Bass: Encore P-Bass in Candy Apple Red "Go to" Bass: Status S2 Classic headless "Your" Bass: Currently as above!
4. I've already earmarked an Electro for my future foray into the world of fretless, so it's interesting to read other people's comments on the Electro. It does appear to be the Status bass that time forgot. For what it's worth, Rob is in the middle of updating the Electro, although it's currently on hold due to the volume of orders that they're getting through. Mark
5.
John Deacon for me. Tasteful, melodic player & fantastic songwriter to boot - what a talent! Cheers Dave
+1. Oh to just buy a P-bass, sand down the paintwork and end up with a gorgeous-looking natural finish and black pickguard

Sold

Ain't she a beauty? Always willing to bump such well-made basses, and £1,350 for a thru-neck is an absolute steal!
7.
Hold out for a used MMSR, you should be able to pick one up for around £600 or less even an wont lose anything on it if you decide to sell it .
Cheers for all the replies. If I were to go for say the OLP, then my plan was to eventually upgrade the PuP and electronics. By the time I've paid for that, I may as well have gone for an original MM in the first place! That's the plan now, just have to wait around a bit for the right opportunity to come my way... Mark
8.
The new Sterling Stingrays are far more attractive but they don't seem to slap well!
In what way do you think it doesn't slap well - do you mean physically, or just in terms of not being able to get a good tone from the PuP/electrics?
9. Hi, I'm looking to acquire a Ray copy, and at the moment the choice appears to be either an OLP Ray HH, or a Sterling by Ray34 (single H). I'm looking for a fairly "pure" single-H 'Ray tone, so I'm not sure if a HH model would be a bit overkill, although it is it the cheaper option. What should I do? Cheers Mark
10. Wow, so many Merseysiders in a single thread! Welcome
11. Wow, if there was a bass that would make me seriously consider a 5-string, that might be it! Sadly cash is very short at the moment thanks to impending house decorating, but best of luck with the sale!
12. Yup, been there, done that. Last gig we played, our sound check was around 7pm, and we didn't get on stage until about 11.30pm. By that time, the sound engineer was very drunk, and clearly didn't care at all about the sound. As a consequence, our mix on stage sounded rubbish - none of us could hear the lead guitar! - and as a consequence we didn't feel happy playing. Like you say - what was the point of doing the sound check? As a consequence, we're now looking to only play gigs where we're early in the set.
13.
You have made an agreement to pay the money, end of and tough titty! I'm sure Mark is a thoroughly nice guy but he is a businessman; you bought the item you owe the money, you don't pay the money you get taken to court... simples!
Using insight from my industry, I would well expect that anybody supporting this scheme gets the full amount of money on the first day - it's the Arts Council who then take on the credit risk and would come after you should you default on payments. In terms of payment protection insurance, this is actually really simple - it's fundamentally a secured loan. If you don't keep up your payments, they just come and take your instrument off you, sell it to somebody else and get their cash that way!
14. I think I recognise this bass... As a former owner I can say that this is one sweet bass! Has the simplicity of a Precision, a really flat, wide neck that feels very quick to play, great stylings...like AndyTravis, if it were 4 strings then I'd be very tempted to have it back!
15.
Thinking about it, had it been a bit quieter, i could have ended up in a lot of trouble!
+1 Thanks to traffic, I arrived there at about 2.30pm during which point most of the crowds had either not yet arrived, or where in the main auditorium watching Dave Marks (I think). Turned out to be a great time to float around the stands - walked up to the PMT stand, had a nice chat to the bloke there, and had a good 15-20mins uninterrupted on a G&L plugged into the Soundblox Multiwave Pro. After Stu Hamm, I was contemplating a go on perhaps a Dingwall, or an Esh, and a play about with the MarkBass chorus pedal. However, by then everything was just too loud! Although I may not have taken a Dingwall home, I could have easily been tempted by another pedal on top of the Multiwave I ended up taking home with me!
16.
I'm on the Matamp stand with my rig and a few of my basses, with that Tayste bloke, he's the one with the hair! Tony
Ha, good to meet you both - although you won't have realised you were talking to a fellow BC'er. I know I didn't (I was the guy there minutes before Stu Hamm started). On a separate note, out of all the trade stands that were there I didn't see a single Warwick or Spector. Just an observation
17. Have to say I'm finding this thread useful reading, so cheers to everyone for the advice so far. One of the things that I am a bit stuck on is getting a good slap sound to come from my amp. I think I read previously that from an EQ perspective, you're looking to boos the treble and bass, and really cut the mids. Is this correct? Anybody have any more specific advice to give? PuP blend would also be useful too.
18. Heheh. Had to read through the listing before I realised what was up $99 as a starting bid is a bit much, is it not? Plus, bit worrying that it was damaged in transit, especially if it was in transit between Epiphone and the retailer...
19.
As for Mark Ronson,WTF?
The thing that I found most strange with that performance were the random electronic drum pads that were dotted around the place, and that the other female singer was hitting. I could not tell at all what sound she was actually making! Was it lost in the mix? Or is it some weird stage theatrics that I just don't get? *shrugs*
20. Back to the subject of bass lines that might be on the banned list: Another One Bites the Dust must be there somewhere?
21.
Warwick's. Just can't get myself to forgive them for making Status break the moulds for the awesome Status Entwhistle Buzzard.
+1 I just look at the Warwick efforts, and firstly you get a crappy Warwick head instead of the glorious Buzzard 'beak', and then it also appears that you're lumped with inferior electronics too! To me, those two things just destroy the character of the Buzzard. Back on topic - I just cannot find love for a Stingray 5, in particular the way the scratchplate distorts from the glorious teardrop design from the Stingray 4.
22. Well, that's one question helpfully answered by the lovely people at Basschat! I too was wondering who was playing bass for RW last night. Now for my next question: anybody have a roadworn black P-Bass that I can have? On another matter, what is it with the BBC and the mix on their live performances? The mix last night was just shocking at times. Yes we want to hear the vocals, but we also want to hear the rest of the mix too! Glastonbury was just as shocking, and it starts to make things unwatchable.
