1.
I think on Carol Kaye's website she favours playing triplets with a downstroke, followed by two upstrokes?
Can't imagine how difficult that would be! I started bass after playing guitar, so im pretty proficient with a plectrum. Down-up-down is the method i use. But your hand should constantly be moving. Its quite hard to explain this in writing, but basically you play "down - up -down - up", but on the second "up", retract the plectrum so it doesnt play the note. I dont know if this is obvious, but people i have shown, always try to reset the picking hand, rather than keep a constant motion and just exclude playing the 4th note. Hope that makes sense to you
2. Ive just read through this entire thread and can honestly say, i've known the next line twice That is really unimpressive
3.
I bought a few of these electrical clips, they are meant for mains electricity but I'm hoping I can use them temporarily between the pick-up and the volume pot so I can easily test out different pick-ups without having to resolder each time.
Cracking idea if that works! Looks good so far mate. Always wanted to do something like this, so will be good to see how you fare!
4. Well if the doctor said.....
5. Can't believe this is still here at this price
6. I appreciate what you are saying, but when it comes to someones wedding, first dibs don't count. IMO at least! I'll pass on all links to my friend and let him decide then. Thanks gents
7. Thank you. I will pass on all links to them
8. My mate is getting married on the 29th August up in Chester. He asked us to play, but we are already booked. Is there anyone one here who plays in a Motown/disco style band, who would be willing to play in the Chester area on this date? It is a wedding but not in the normal sense. You wont be expected to turn up hours early and wait around. They have a seperate marquee for the nights entertainment, so you'll be able to turn up when you please i suppose. I dont know if this is the right place to put this topic, so feel free to move it
9.
My 9.2 and Focus 4x10 still gives me a boner.
You should see someone about that
10. We have played some Backstreet boys songs We thought we were being cool, but looking back we probably wern't even slightly cool to anyone watching us
11. Yes ive recently switched to a 5er for this same reason. Our singer was complaining that it was too much of a strain to sing some of the songs in standard tuning, so we agreed to drop about 6-7 songs. Instead of having the two basses,i bought a 5er. Took a bit of getting used to, but im happy i've done it now.
12. Looks a monster, and if its anything like my guitarists 300w Peavey head, it will be a beast!! Congrats
13.
I never got to grips with Maxwell Murder by Rancid. Fine up until the solo part then I get lost. As does my patience.
I remember trying to learn that when i first started playing bass. Got it to what i thought was passable at the time. We have videos of us playing gigs when we were 16 that my best man at my wedding screened to our guests in his best man speech. Maxwell Murder was the song shown. There were more, shall we call them "fusion" notes than i remembered
14. I answered some of the polls questions, but my real answers were not an option for me to choose, so ill answer them here: Do you vote in the challenge - and if not, why not? I don't vote because i don't take part. I dont feel it's ok to cast a judgment on someone elses offering if i'm not willing (don't have the time) to make a bit of music for the challenge myself What might tempt you to take part in the Composition Challenge yourself? Having more free time in the house. Also having a better understanding of how to produce a piece of decent quaity. I can record from the house. But only in low quality, using guitar band etc. I dont know enough about the programmes to make best use of them. FWIW i do often listen to the entries, and enjoy them, i just dont vote
15. I havent changed my strings on my main bass in four years. They are roundwounds. But when gigging i'm in a motown band, so i like the sound and think it suits. YMMV and all that....
16. Just completed a trade deal with Scott. Great communications throughout, quick payments, and everything happened when it was meant to. What more can you ask for? Cheers mate
17. Good to know. Ill be looking for a Wick with Nordstrands next then Congrats again, stunning bass
18. Looks awesome Bill. Love the woods used. How do the pickups compare to your Thumb? Great playing aswell. Im mates with Boosh and he pointed me the way of your IG
19. Sorted. If you're happy, it was a good deal!
20. Yeh i based my answer on my own amp really. But if Bill says it makes no difference, i believe him
21. Sounds like a winner Arn Happy days
22. Not sure how the Streamliner 900 is configured, but if you want to get the most out of it, with the setup you have, i would daisy chain them. This then runs them down to 4 ohms, and you'll get more "power" from your amp. You twazock
23. What about a scratchplate with an accordian on it?
24. Im thinking black would look better with a rosewood board rather than maple. Im off to have a look in the Ads to find this lake placid blue with tort guard See if it changes my mind
