Do tribute bands get tribute WAGS/groupies? Does a Beatles tribute have an annoying woman in a black wig getting in the way at rehearsals? Doesn't add anything to the debate. Just asking like.

There's probably a good reason why nobody's done this before. The 3x51-63 I call it. Catchy eh?

I don't normally go for these mash up thingies. I do like this one though Ce Ce Peniston and the Sex Pistols
A friend of mine had a dreadful set up on his Ricky 4003 at Chandlers, came back with a high action and the G kept falling of the fretboard when played. It was rubbish and cost a lot of money, it took over two weeks too. I told him to take it to Martin at The Gallery and he sorted it out wonderfully, he said it needed a new nut as the original had been badly cut. Even I like playing it and I detest Rickys
Chandler's (Kew) and Charlie Chandler's (Shepperton) are different shops. I think they split over musical differences? I had a so-so set up at Chandler's in Kew a few years ago so avoided them for a bit. I gave them another try A couple of years ago and they did a great job. I've used them since. The trick is to ask for Andrew. Very nice bloke and he prefers working on basses.

I roll the tone control off for our dubby song. The rest of the gig I have a driven low mid sound. To quote Happy Jack "That sounds horrible on its own but it's OK in the band mix." I wouldn't dream of having a different tone for each song. I've enough other stuff to worry about on stage without pressing buttons and twiddling knobs between songs.

First gig you went to - who was in the band?
Are you talking about Rich Kids?
Yes, Nashville Rooms January 1978. -
A bloke with dark glasses and one of those Vox organs with the black and white keys transposed who looked the part would be enough. I don't want anyone too musician like. I'd rather an enthusiast I think.

On my way... -
What I'm cautious of is someone 'filling out' the sound. I like the spaces and we're good on the dynamics. My only previous experience with a keys person was a bloke who played the melody line with his right hand and my bass parts with his left all the way through the songs. He was technically brilliant but it sounded bloody awful for the two rehearsals he lasted. Just the odd interesting noise would do me.
Occasional....?? Go and pick-up/nick one from another band. That way you'll know they can play and you cut down the time-wasting auditions type things
Good call. I might try that. Although I was kind of looking forward to the guilty pleasure of incompatible nutters turning up for auditions. Why occasional? Well the three of us have been together in this and the last band for 6 years now. We could gig with or without them and we're not totally sure it would be a benefit to the sound yet. There would have to be a probation period before we'd offer full member status. We're wary after a seemingly reasonable chap turned total mentalist in the previous line up. Plus knocking my songwriting credits from a third to a quarter could cost me upwards of 20p a year.

I'm too scared to google 'organ chat'. We'd kind of like an occasional member (terrible organ pun) as long as they didn't take up too much sonic space.

It took me weeks of fiddling to get the TC sounding how I wanted it. The Orange you just plug in. I reckon a couple of weeks fiddling with a compact and the TC and I could get there. It shows how much the TC cabs colour the sound. They do it in a way I like fortunately. If only there Terror had a decent DI.

I've tried a compact with my Orange Terror and my TC Classic. The Terror sounded amazing and the TC didn't. I'm not sure what this means or if it helps?
Where can I buy a CD from?
I'm off on holiday for 10 days on Saturday. I'll sort you one out when I get back Mike. We're having a buy stuff button put on the www.thejetsonics.com site soon. Or a PM will do the trick.

It's on itunes now. I'm picking up the CD's tomorrow. http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/the-chelsea-drugstore-ep/id549565418 This has been the most difficult of the three to finish but we're very happy with it now.

Unrecognised / Forgotten Bass Influences
Hi guys ! Can I just add Colin moulding of XTC , very tuneful , thoughtful player and never gets the credit he deserves in my opinion :-)
And him! So tasteful. Shame he's given up on music. -
Strangely enough, as he`s a guitarist, Steve Jones, as his "root note an octave below" work on Never Mind The Bollocks was what I learned to. So largely, although I like riffing, being in heavy rock and punk bands most of my playing life, this approach has been a big influence.
Yep. I'm with you Lozz. It really works well in the right context. Love Captain Sensible's stuff when he was a 4 stringer too. Also William Simpson from the Skids and Jon Watson from 999 are [s]ripped off [/s] are unintentional influences too.. -
Well then, there's the solution! ...But which cabs should they be painted to look like..?
I'm still working out which cardboard has the best 'tone' before I get on to the painting. -
The point about the bass being too loud on stage ... You really do not need or want a rig that floods the stage with bass... so in that respect the cab is often totally unsuitable as it is harder to conrol by FOH. You would be better off with a tight focused sound and if you need more bass, get some in the monitors. If the monitors aren't or can't be used for bass, then you will need a rig that cuts but does not flood the stage. So the size of the rig becomes important as a small-ish stage in a small room might means a rig would flood not only the stage but fill the room and the FOH engr might take you out of the mix which means he has lost control... This is why Engrs like low bass volume on stage as they can sort it out better out front... but that might be at the expense of the bass sound for the bass player. Most guys I've worked with ignore my bass volume and figure they can bleed over the top as they have a more powerful rig for the room... but too much bass on stage will complicate this and make his job harder. I make my sound is THERE...but not massively so, My bass rig will pump out most or, in some case, all, of the stage sound, but not get in the way of FOH... The last thing you want in a bass rig that you can't control re the amount of low-end you put out. Some cabs are just too plain bassey.... and therefore not a stage rig.. They might do ok in a decent size room, but that sort of bias may not be very adapatable. IMO..!!
Interesting. I play a venue a lot where the monitoring is excellent and I'd truthfully be better of just bringing my Sansamp and stacking some black painted cardboard boxes behind me for effect. Last gig there I was worried how I'd sound FOH as on the soundman's advice I had the head volume right down at about 1.25 out of 10. Someone did an audio recording at the back. The bass sounded big and distinct and great in the mix. -

I tried my TC 450 Classic through a Barefaced Compact and I didn't really like it. I'm guessing EQ'ing to match the cab would have made it sound a lot better though. I've an Orange Terror too and that sounds amazing through it. As for TC cabs an RS210 matched with an RS212 may be a good solution. I use an RS210 with an RS112 as I'm DI at all my gigs these days and can barely get the output above tickover without random soundmen moaning. -
We are three very different looking people in my band. Up until March this year that's what we looked like on stage too. Someone I know who has sold lots and lots of records in his career saw us and said to me "I like what you're doing but you don't look like a band" So we had a think and came up with the cheap shirt and suits idea. What I noticed was. We felt like a band. We got extra confidence on stage and played better. And the best bit. People came up to us after gigs and bought lots more CDs than we usually sell. I think it's because we were instantly identifiable and had a level of sepration from looking like an audience member. Very little cost outlay. My machine washable suit cost £49! One of the best decisions we've made.
