1. £50 suit, white shirt, skinny black tie and white pointed creepers.
2.
MB1. A fully Fretted/ Fretless Bass?.....that works???
What? Like a little lever/switch that recesses the frets to the level of the fretboard?
3. I'll start off with. A portable Tech 21 Class D amp. Unless it was stupid money I'd buy one like a shot.
4. I do all my recording DI from my sansamp. Sounds great and saves so much time. And time=money is always an issue when recording for me. Our engineer/producer is happy to mic up my amp if I want. When we tried it the once we agreed the sansamp on it's own was by far the best in the mix anyway.
5. I've got the 3 button BDDI. I've done all my Jetsonics studio recording with it and plenty of gigs. If I get a particularly fussy sound bod I just go direct from it and use my amp as a stage monitor. It will always sound great through the desk and PA, My best bit of kit by some way.
6. I bought this after trying Happy Jack's at a gig. Wonderful huge sounding thing in a small box. In good nick. I swapped out the original no name 12AX7's for some nice Electro Harmonix ones. I'll pass on the originals in case the purchaser is a blues man*. The swap has smoothed out the gain in a nice way to my ears. The only thing not minty on this is I had to get two of the screws drilled out on the back corner when I did the valve swap as they were made of cheese and had been screwed on by a Chinese Geoff Capes at the factory. This doesn't affect anything in terms of operation or rigidity, Comes with a 40db attenuator for those DI gigs. As is well known some desks can deal with the robust DI output and some struggle. So this sorts that out. Also still has the nice man bag with the kettle lead and carrying strap in the front pocket. Very handy. I'm after £325 collection/meet up within a reasonable distance from/to West London. Pink hanky not included. Excuse the photography. I'm not David Bailey that's for sure. *As we all known the original was always better...
7.
Ki0gon is your man for wiring harnesses, got one of his solderless ones a few weeks ago and it's fantastic quality. Liam
Ta. I've messaged him. Mind if I put you on backup Bremen?
8. For one of those little 6 string things. I lent a guitar (I know) to a, shall we say acquaintance, a couple of years or so ago and I've just managed to get it back. All is pretty much OK apart from he admitted he'd swapped the pickups out at some stage and put back the original ones I'd had fitted (an SD JB bridge and a tex mex tele neck) before I picked it back up. The selector is now hit and miss. The pots (which aren't the same as when I lent it) crackle and there is a lot of hum. The back of the pots looks like the Unknown Pleasures cover in 3D. The push pull pot for the coil split on the JB is also gone. Can anyone wire me up a loom? ideally with screw connectors as I'm almost as crap at soldering as the bloke who bodged this back together. It's a rather spiffy ESP Ltd Hybrid 300 exactly like the one in this pic except there's no tin cover on the neck pickup now.
9.
Quality all the way Always thought Rob Younger sounds like a young Dave Vanian. Have you heard The New Christs?
Yep. Very good too. Had the guitarist who was in the Saints for a bit too if I remember correctly.
10. Still sounds fresh, fast and nasty.
11. You can never have enough cup holders.
12. No Sleep 'Til Uxbridge....
13. Oh and strings make a difference too don't forget. It's bleeding endless and nobody in the audience will give a toss of course!
14. PS I think you can 'over pickup' a Precision sometimes. Really powerful/hot ones can lose the grrrr. You have to let the amp do some of the work. Also pickup height needs to be fiddled with. Tiny adjustments can make a lot of difference.
15. Wizard Thumper fits the bill for me. 2007 American Standard with them on this http://soundcloud.com/thejetsonics for an idea of how they can sound. My spare has a Dimarzio and it is noticeably darker sounding.
16.
Likwise.Utter garbage.Straight on to Precisions, had many non Precisions since, always go back to my 1978 Fender P.Except for the odd video or photoshoot, that Tokai Thunderbird does look nice.
Avon EB0 Here. dreadful rubbishy thing. Maybe we should start a support group. We were abused in our formative years by cheap Japanese Gibson copies.
17. No other bass has felt as comfortable to me. The forearm contour the balance and the neck all feel right. This may be because I got my first one in 1979 though. Other basses feel like getting in a car with the seat too close or far away from the pedals and you can't adjust it. A nice Precision is like a comfy pair of slippers to me. As to the sound. In most genres they sit well in the mix. This is possibly because shed loads of past music from country to punk has been recorded on them so that's the sound you're expecting? They have their faults. Upper fret access, limited tonal variation, neck's too chunky for showboating, etc. There are undoubtedly lots of technically superior and better made basses around but not many that are as fit for their purpose.Luckily none of that is a problem in a noisy guitar pop band anyway. They're not for every genre but if you want something to work on a huge spectrum of popular music they're pretty damned good. A top piece of design before the days of CAD.
18.
Bought a Wizard Thumper pickup from Nick in one of the simplest transactions possible. I've dealt with him before and hope to deal with him again. Cheers Nick
Substitute Wizard Thumper for P Bass wiring set and you have my experience too. Thanks Nick.
19. They do one for drums
20. I kidnapped Sven, Sven, Sven and Sven from the Scandinavian Metal tribute band Metal-Ikea. I chopped them up and put them in the compost bin. They're degrading very nicely in this hot weather.
21. I'm looking forward to watching this. I shall hit the red button before I go to the boozer.
22. I wouldn't want to do anything other than what I do. But many's the time I've considered a thread titled. Original Material Bands. What's the bloody point? At least most tribute bands seem to enjoy themselves and get gigs.....
23. Ta Skankola. You can't say my finger is not on the pulse of popular culture. Last night there was a documentary on the Sweeney called 'Get Your Trousers On You're Nicked' and they also use the line in the new Sweeny movie. Back in early July I borrowed the sample for the intro not knowing of either of these. As I'm clearly a mystic I predict that George and Mildred will be made into a blockbuster feature film next year with Bruce Willis and Madonna starring. Sidecars and comb overs will be de-rigeur.
24.
I'm digging this kind of thing at the mo:
That does look nice. Just needs some white competition stripes
25. <Martin Clunes using sad voice> Poor Greeny here is afraid to go on stage in the daylight. His manufacturers left him tied up to a tree in the garden exposed to the cold and rain. Small boys pelted rocks and stones at him for target practice. Donating just £2.50 per month can help us cure the many sufferers of bass mange at a decent refinishers. We never put a working bass down....
