1. My first venture back into band world after a considerable gap was answering a musos wanted ad saying "No nutters. No stalkers. No political activists" but the advertiser turned out to be all 3 You never really know what people are like to you start working with them I guess.
2. Bugger. I'm off to see Dreadzone in Guildford on the 20th! Not time enough for both gigs
3. They don't make them like this any more!
4. Set the strap height so you're right hand is in its most comfortable position. I have no problem getting from string to string using a pick if the angles are right. Octave stuff is a doddle. I'm not an ex guitarist. I've just always played with a plectrum. If you're in a punky pop outfit big thick triangular ones are good and you get 3 points to wear out. I use Clayton 1.07mm tortex ones.
5. Played the Scream Lounge in Croydon on Saturday. A long way from our 'fanbase' Nice venue. The guys there work really very hard to promote the place. Lots of people to see the Main band who were excellent and annoyingly about 20 years younger than us. We played pretty well. Good fun and we even had a few people turn up to specifically see us who we didn't know at all but had stumbled across us on the net which was gratifying. The new song worked well live which was a bonus too.
6. £20 off for the weekend. Now £200 collected.
7.
You don't like Talking Heads? You're weird, you are!
I maybe. But his voice gets right on my nerves.
8. Two guitarists works well of they're very different and give each other space. The Clash and the Members for instance. I don't like any of your list TB13
9. I think he's got some 'Broadside Ballads' left if anyone else fancies a go. It feels a bit lonely with all these knitted yoghurt folkies surrounding us.
10. "Don't make me cross!"
11. Wizard Thumpers are really good pickups in a P and are not stupid money. http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/moreinfo.asp?id=41 I have a Badass II on my backup. I did swap it with the BBOT on my main P and back to compare once. It made zero difference to my ears. They do look nice though.
12. From 2008 but it feels like a hundred years and a million miles ago now. This is the only track I can still bear to listen to. It doesn't make me cringe as nuch as the others. It got on a Classic Rock cover CD too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr1K4-lYUmw
13. I've had this two years but my band is Precision all the way now. Huge sounding thing with nice hardwear. It needed some work out of the box so I got the credit card out and headed to Chandlers in Kew. They gave it a fret dress and set up. The nut wasn't great so they made an ebony shim and fitted it for me and now it's perfect. the pickups are really nice but I wanted to upgrade the electrics. Pots, switch and jack were swapped for switchcraft ones. I also swapped one of the tone pots for a variable coil tap on the neck pickup and made the other one a master tone. This is a very useful mod and adds a lot of versatility. It's done 4 or 5 gigs but is in good nick. The only cosmetic issue is on the back there is a bit of buckle rash and the pickup screws had to be wound in tight and caused a tiny bit of pea sized flaking to the paint. But you can't see that when you're playing it. Comes with a fetching 'Bite!' sticker from Big Red X's band. You can peel that off if you're no fun. It's got a newish set of D'addario Prosteels on it. You will get noticed if you play this. £200 collected from Brentford/Chiswick, west London or £220 posted (insured) to a UK address in its original cardboard shipping box. The headcock....I mean headstock.... looks nothing like this.
14. From my 2007 American Standard. These are really very good traditional sounding P pups. Comes with the S1 switch and knob. £35 posted.
15. Ashdown Dual Band compressor All good. Works a treat. Light in the VU meter has never worked since new. Never bothered me. £35 posted. Digitech Bad Monkey. Sold
16. Well done Mike I really like the Scream Lounge. It's a top venue. I'm looking forward to this one. Free entry. And free exit too.
17.
I think I'm underrated
Indeed you are. But it doesn't matter what I think
18. We've had this before haven't we. My take on this is. If you're not an underrated bass player you're probably doing it wrong. Who cares what others bass players think. It's the listening public that matters.
19. I'd like to see instruments reviewed in a band situatuion for a change. Most of the sounds/tones that sound good solo don't seem to be much cop in a band mix.
20. I'd better get some more gigs organised then
21. I'd love to see any of you at a rare (for us) free gig at the Scream Lounge in Croydon on Saturday 6th or the Grey Horse in Kingston on Friday 19th with the very good Past Tense on the bill too. Details in the lesser spotted gigs section.
22. I Wish I Were Back in Olde Brentforde Towne by Ye Jetfonickf is indeed the B side Dr Dave. Here's the link to the demo http://soundcloud.com/thejetsonics/the-jetsonics-cruel-lizzie-vickers . The bass is too loud.
23. I like the look. If it still had the sidecar I'd be bidding.
